@thecrism1 - I didn't make any changes because of the solar addition - saving energy has been one of my hobbies my whole life. I have LED lighting, we use a whole-house fan, a recirculating water pump. Very low vampire loads. My house PLUS the EV uses about half the electricity as the average home in my neighborhood (not counting the solar displacement!) When counting solar, I use almost nothing on a net energy basis.
@KoolJust4U - I got the solar panels by paying a solar panel installation company to come and install them. I then ended up working for the same company after my install. My system cost approximately $10k and will provide fuel for my main car for the rest of my life - as well as covering all of my house's electrical needs. It was paid off years ago, and is free from now on.
@raejaybigpapi - A better question is, "why not?" I have a pull-through garage. All my major tools are on wheels, and I roll them out back to my covered work area behind the garage to use them. I can easily pull all my bikes back there, or one of the cars... whatever. Was one of the selling points of my house!
It would depend on your location... but first try the yellow pages and look for in stallers in your area. Ask questions. Find somebody else with solar and ask them. Ask your utility. Google your state or community +solar power.
Not sure that I understand your question then. You ask if 2.5 kW is enough, and then say that most have 0.6 kW? I guess you are kidding about 2.5 being enough? In my area, a 2.5 kW system is the smallest that is installed. 3-5.5 kW systems are more the norm.
About charging, people saying that you can't fill it withit a few minuts. Thats rediclious.
You know why? the car stands still most of the time.. and if you have a charging station almost at all places. It could get filled up easily. Like charger at work.. charger at the mall charger at home. I think that will work out. And you don't need battery's that charge up fast. ( would be awsome though.. like alternano ) But lets see.. you work like 8 hours a day at work... ( alot time to charge it )
When I installed my 2.5 kW system five years ago, it cost about $10k after incentives. I save that much in gasoline alone every year now, and the house power just comes along for free. I didn't do this to make (save) money - but it sure worked out that way, didn't it?
great video and pure value - Excellent!

What changes did you make in the use of electricity for your house, over how you used electricity before the solar panels??

@darelldd was it able to cover your whole household?
KoolJust4U 10 months ago
@KoolJust4U - yes. 2,250 Sq ft house, plus 10,000 EV miles per year- covered by my 2.5 kW solar system.

Why is there a second garage door BEHIND the Rav4?

So 2,5 kw(p) is enough???
Here most people (who have pv) have 600 watt(p)
You know what is funny? If you compare PV price energy to household energy. You have a long time to pay out your PV
If you compare it to gasoline in a car. Your PV installation will pay out much quiker! And that's why i love the PV/EV combination.

2.5 kW covers my home and the car (about 11,500 miles annually) completely. You say most others have a 600 Watt system? That can't be right. 0.6 kW?
darelldd 3 years ago
600 watt = 0,6 kw yes.

I am very sorry for my mis understanding.
I ment.. if the 2,5 kw enough for the car and the home.
Here in holland most people have maximaum of 0,6 kw because of some certain rules.. But with 0,6kw you cant do anything serious!!
I hope you understand me now :)

Ah, I get it now. Yes, the car consumes about the same amount of kWh's as the house does. And the 2.5 covers both.

excelent and beautiful idea. But how much did the solar pannel system cost?

Very nice and Sure it pays for itself and helps in any kind of authorities power loss due to over load etc.
Thanx very much ( :
