Jack Black said it best. Somewhere he said, "I don't think this movie will make people be nicer to each other as much as make us question...'Why do we like the people we like?"
It's true. I think we tolerate good-looking people with so-so personalities. It's like...'Would I be willing to tolerate the recurring facets of this friend's personality if he/she were hard to look at?'
Conversely, many people will jump on any generic reason they can to dislike/ignore the unattractive and/or fat.
@TheAnimatorEqualizer It isn't that hard, really. I've trained myself to see the inside more than the outside. When I first meet someone, all I see is what's outside. But when I get to know them, I stop seeing their face and start seeing their... well, I call it "glowing". At first it's just in my head, but when I see that person again, my brain layers their light over their physical image. The better a person is, the more he/she glows. Some glow so much I almost can't see their face at all.
There were a few parts in this film that I didnt quite get. Like why the "spell" also effected how men looked to Hal, and how it effected some women's appearances but not others.
But overall, it was a great movie & I hope some guys learned a few things from watching this.

This movie made me cry at the scene where Hal tells Rosemary that he's going with her to Carabas 'cause all her fears are relieved and she discovers that there is someone who can love her just as she is. The song that starts to play right when Hal says, "I'm sorry Rosmary, but I just can't wait that long.. which is why I'm going with you" is so emotional and really fits the mood of the scene.
lol I watched this movie before and I never knew that Tony Robbins was the guy who hypnotized Jack Black's character. XD I met him in Melbourne 2 days ago and he was brilliant. I'm gonna have to rewatch it again just for the lulz.

@xNatalie24x I watched this movie yesterday. It's entertaining but I found it way to unrealistic. basically Hal was deceived into liking a fat girl who who he wouldn't have gone with if he wasn't seeing her as Gwenyth Paltrow. I'm sorry but there's no way a man would go off into the sunset with the ugly fat girl in the end without feeling deceived. He still wouldn't find her attractive. They should be encouraging obese women to exercise, not selling them fairy tales to appease their self pity.

I don't know why evn the actors critized this film so much.
I found it really funny and heartwarming , something you rarely see these days.
I think that Jack Black in real life behaves like Hal, and Jason Alexander is George Costanza again (wonderful).

I like "Shallow Hal" a lot. But there's one thing I don't get: Why does Jason Alexander wear a wig in this movie? We've seen Seinfeld. We all know he's balding. If this movie's message is 'Beauty's only skin deep' then doesn't him wearing a wig sorta imply that baldness is unsightly? Kind of condradictory.
