  • This brought tears to my eyes...such mellifluity!

  • this is sooo good. i swear kings college are the best choir out there.....they really capture the element of peace and tranquility in the hymns they sing. absolutely love it!!!

  • I am just waiting for some ignoramous from the pop music world to say they were using "autotune" :-)

  • I'm a woman and I can't hit the hight notes any more!!

  • i only looked at this video so i could make a satanic death metal version of this song. This helped me alot

  • I'm English-not a Christian- but this whole ceremony just shrieks peace and goodwill to all mankind-stop fighting and killing in the name of whatever religion please !

  • @jp00w5941 I'm no Christian either, but can't imagine life without 'Once In Royal David's City' and 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.'

  • This is Christmas for me every year, always excited to see Kings college choir on tv Christmas, I play their song constantly days before Christmas, give me cold chills and makes me feel closer to heaven! thank you for posting!

  • Looking forward to you uploading 2011! Was there a loss of timing on verse 4 in 2011? In recent years Cleobury walked in front of the boys so was able to give a clear cue for the organist. This year he was out of sight and it sounded like the organ was ahead of the choir for a couple of lines which you wouldn't expect. (Unless a mic location issue?) An ex choirboy I said 'Ouch' when I heard it. As the TV event is pre-recorded, I'm surprised the Producer/Director didn't notice and retake.

  • I would love to be there... !

  • I did this as a solo in my church two years in a row!! Very nerve-wracking!!

  • omigodness im doing this solo tomorow!! D: AAARRRGGHH!!

  • @shannon110998 Good luck! I hope it goes well.

  • @shannon110998 I'm doing this solo in three days! Haha! Just practice a lot and remember to breathe.

  • @shannon110998 me today :P

  • @shannon110998 This is great! You should be proud to have been asked to perform this. This is one of my favorite Christmas Carols. I long for the day that I can perform with an orchestra, playing percussion, i.e timpani, chimes, orchestra bells, etc. I hope you do very well.

  • So wait...which one is Alex? Surely it isn't the one opening it...he doesn't look 20. ;)

  • is this a DVD or a TV program? If a DVD, where can I get it?

  • @ChronologieIV There is website operated by Kings College on the channel description. But the carols are shown on TV every Christmas Eve.

  • This is 1 of my favourite carol.

  • Stunning descant. Cleobury really making the best of his choir. Well done all.

  • Feel so guilty letting myself listen to this before Christmas ...

  • My god,how beautiful. It gives me chills.

  • ooo, love the new descant!

  • The end ist best!

  • You put a lot of work into these, it's appreciated, thank you

    markfromireland

  • This is the best!! The beautiful carols draw us closer to God. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • that descant!

  • spiritdei, thank you very much for uploading again! This is really a highlight every year on christmas.

    Many greetings from Germany

    Josch

  • Perfect, as usual. What a way to start the concert :D

  • Good job on getting them up so early this year! I never would have thought... This is my favorite, and I agree with liberavieve, he nailed it this year.... Thanks again, and Merry Christmas...

  • Thanks for uploading it, really spiritual song! Merry Christmas!

  • Thanks for that... And merry and holy Christmas!

But first ever seen women "deacon" at King's... ugh...

    Pax et Bonum

  • @donhenri01 'Ugh?' Is the inclusion of enthusiastic women or girls really so horrid as to earn an 'ugh' for this video at Christmastime? I love the sound of a choir of men and boys, but anyone—man, woman, girl, boy, cleric or layman—with a hand in the production of this service and those like it should be worthy of admiration and support for the joy that they help bring to millions at Christmas. Bravo, King's, and keep it coming.

  • @donhenri01

There are actually two places where a woman may read in the official Kings' Script. Actuallyy more. The Third lesson is read by "a representitive of the cambridge churches", the 4th by "a representitive of the city of cambridge", who could both be women, depending on politics. Also depending on politics though more unlike are the positions of "vice provost" and "provost".

  • @donhenri01

Actually there are only 2 places where it MUST be male - the chorister and the choral scholars, by the nature of King's choir, are always male. I suppose the second place for this spot would also be the "master over the choristers" and also the music director.

  • Thank you from the depths of my heart for all of these posts. I have been listening to this since 1987 but it has gotten more and more difficult to hear it in the States. My heart is full. Merry Christmas!!!!!

  • @chandilah You can hear it live every year on BBC Radio via the internet... I'm in California so it comes on at 7am here, live.... Next year let me know and I'll send you all the links, and get you set up....

  • @MrtyMrtn

    Hey to California,... :)

I'm in Germany and if I would know the links I would listen to it live, too. So please remember me next year, too. :-D

    Greetings

    Josch

  • Thank you. We are far away, but this brings Christ and Christmas close.

  • Wow, Spiritdei; you certainly worked quickly with these this year! These carols are my absolute favourite videos on Youtube, and every Christmas, I so look forward to finding them uploaded here. Thank you so much for providing this beautiful music for those of us who wouldn't otherwise be able to find it, and have a very happy Christmas.

  • @liberavieve Glad you enjoyed them and I am happy to get them up nice and early! Happy Christmas to you.

  • I've been listening to the Carols for decades and as far as I am concerned this chorister is as note perfect as they come. All the more extraordinary as there is no starting note for him to find his pitch. At 0:45 notice his eyes slightly lower as he perfectly voices the "D." I reckon he knew he "nailed it," sublime!

  • @spiritdei yes i agree , he had a wonderful quality to his voice and was note perfect. how proud his parents must have been.

  • @spiritdei What I love about the tradition of the opening treble solo is that they don't tell the boy he's the soloist until right before he is to sing. There is something fine and solid in that, in service to the congregation -- any of them could do it, and theoretically it could be any one of them, therefore any of them will rise to the call if it comes.
