@johnykonta57 .. eheh .. "according to my videos" yes, i think so to .. it is the only one i have kept from that bunch :) but if i was on the market again, i would also take a look at the Kodak PlaySport, although i don't like the brand that much, i think that the PlaySport is a decent camcorder. Not sure how -wide- its lens are though .. I also got the Sony HV5x that i am testing now, totally different price range, but the vids are AVCHD-elicious : ))
@johnykonta57 imo yes, it would be better than the Zi8 because i personally prefer (1) sharper images/frames, (2) more vibrant colors and even more than that, (3) wide angle lens .. i also do not record at higher resolutions than 720p (because 1080p takes more space, takes longer to process/upload/download, and for youtube purposes it looks exactly the same - i do have a Full 1080p/60fps camera that i use much less often and just to watch the videos on TV). Hope this helps.
@johnykonta57 this one is the 1st generation HD Vado .. it is the best in my opinion. there is no difference in the 1st and 2nd gen other than the finish of the body (matte rubbery for the 1st, and glossy black for the 2nd).. the 3rd gen with half the capacity (4GB down from 8GB) also has worse video quality (but they added a mic in jack). So overall, i think that the 1st gen is the best (8GB, very wide angle lens, sharp frames, vivid colors, removable battery.. and you can now get is for $80!)
@APrintezis It takes stills right? you dont have to record part of a video and capture a still from there? or will it take a still straight from the pocket camcorder like a regular camera?
@johnykonta57 .. the third generation Vado HD does take stills (but nothing like a real digital camera would), the Vado HD 2nd and 1st generation do not take stills (but yes, you could capture a still from a video frame, the built in software can do just one of 15 at a time - but you need a pc to do that) .. if you are interested more in taking pictures than video, you should look into a digital camera that takes 720p videos as well - there are many out there that do that.
@johnykonta57 .. i like samsung products, the u10 is nice but i have never used it, i really doubt however that it has a 10MP ccd sensor, so, the 10MP stills are probably extrapolated. it also takes time-lapse videos, which is a cool feature that many larger cameras don't even have. the u20 by the way is out with the addition of an image stabilization (but in my experience, IS in such small cameras do not do anything, might even downgrade image quality).
@johnykonta57 .. i have a couple of pictures from it saved in my HD .. if you want to take a look, email me and i will send them to you .. imo, they are pretty decent (and about 1 MB each) .. not bad at all.
@MACYNET323 without a doubt, vado was built for this kind of things .. but for a cellphone, the "i" is not too bad, and this was before they came out with the (half) HD version. -btw- the video and camera of the new android x is really surprising for a cell !!! check it out ..
you should see my other videos in HD mode .. the "crispness" of each of Vado's frames is just unmatched. I compared it with the HD footage of a Samsung CL65 and the new Sony Bloggie CM5 with IS and Optical Zoom and still the Vado is more crisp and clear, frame-by-frame, to any other alternative (in that size and price range).
well, of course it cannot come close to an "HD" recorder, even a little fixed lens pocket one like the Vado, but .. for a cellphone it is not -that- half bad.
I use either Pinnacle Studio or Cyberlink PowerDirector and the PiP function (Picture-in-Picture) .. both programs can show 6 video streams at once. I have only used up to 4.
Thanks .. the vado -is- better hands down, especially considering that (to make this test fair) i did not record in HD+ as the Vado could. Vado's AVI files were smaller and sharper.
What i like about the Vado (unlike the Sony Webbie for example -or- the iPhone) is that i can edit the files with Windows Movie Maker.
Having said that, editing the iPhone's MOV files with a program like Pinnacle or PowerDirector could actually improve the colors (but not sharpness) to be comparable to the Vado!!!
@rho070 .. good question, when it comes to color reproduction both a bit off, the iphone's colors are bit dull, low contrast, ok saturation.. the vado's color is also a bit off, but more toward the over-saturated side, a little high contrast, i personally like it, but the sky sometimes turns white due to it, other than that, it is great (for a pocket camera)
its official. this cam is better than any other pocket camcorder according to your videos. Thanks aprintezis

@APrintezis how about the Bloggie cam? how good are the stills? it says the hmx-u10 is 100 dollars, and takes 10 megapixel stills o.o

Yes Vado is pretty good .. but for a cellphone, the "i" is not that bad either : )
P.S. samsung came out with a new HD pocket camera that shoots in 1080p !!!
would love to test that against the vado too ..
