  • I do not deny that a factor such as "taste in music" is in the play for everything but I think that we can all agree that to actually hate this so much to push the dislike button you have to be one lowly, self-entitled, disgusting piece of work.

  • This song scared me once. I imagined it as a troll walking down a hallway.

  • awesome!!!

  • Rat Race, anyone?

  • its good but i think it needs more than just stringed instruments. can't say i didn't enjoy it though!

  • Would you allow me to use this recordings for small video ads? I'm selling Art Nouveau juwelry in a small online gallery. Though I know, that Grieg is not strictly Art Nouveau, I feel that the ambiance of his music fits perfectly in this time.

  • @ultrastunter please feel free to use anything you wish

  • @knotz2008 I agree, Alton towers is theee place of my childhood

  • reminds me of a theme park in uk s advert frm when i was a kid love this song!!

  • @RCSCreativity - Yes, you're free to use anything on my channel - if you tell me what it's for I might even send you a higher quality version on DVD

  • @bewawolf19 - you're welcome to use this in any way you wish - thanks !

  • it reminds me of the lion king for some akward reson

  • Go Mountain King!

  • I love this orchestra

  • This reminds me of the movie Coraline.

  • Slightly out of tune in a few places

  • @catsaica if you're gonna attack rap music go after some of the WAAAAAYYY over the top devil worshiping Heavy Metal and lets not forget ribeye steak dress wearing lady gaga too. Most rap music is bad nowadays but don't single it out like there isn't bad music in other genres too

  • 40 people are not mountain kings!

  • It should start in Piaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaano

  • The weird thing is I was looking for this title for over a year. Then one day I was just browsing classical music and listening to it like the march of the dwarves and ride of the valkyrie. And then I come across this and not even notice it is the song I was looking for!

  • ew.

  • When you have an audience with at least 10 people in it there is always someone who has to COUGH in quiet parts. Is that a law of nature?

  • as unalterable as gravity

  • I don't know, it's kind of like the more people there are the more chance one of them has to be annoying and cough.

  • @Fabsun It's just that you can only hear people cough when it's quiet :P

  • @gurcrist

Wow! Give that man a medal!

    :P

  • It lacks a lot of the power without the percussion.

  • Yup definitely missing those timpani lol.

  • excellent

  • i can play this on the violin

  • I can play this on guitar, since today. I've heard it before, but I'm not sure where...

  • it has so many energy that i can smash my wall ! :D

  • the douchebag that coughed at 1:20 ruined it

  • not really. I didn't even notice until you pointed it out

  • it' a beautiful!!!!!it's relax!!!!!!!!

  • Hey...I play precussion! Yea a bass would sound nice in that song.

  • @SuperSmuffer Bass...guitar?

  • this is good... but this song really needs percussion to complete it

  • we playeed this in our concert! :D

  • Wasn't the conductor playing a violin?

  • This song is soooo metal

  • Refreshing and wild!! Love it

  • Best Version I found up to now :D

  • The tune relates to Peery Gynt in the hal of the mountain king. The music quickens as goblins dance faster and faster around him leading up to the entrance of the King. "memory from school some 43 years ago so might have got it wrong.

  • Words can not express just how great this is.

  • Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,

Catch a tiger by the toe.

If he hollers let him go,

    Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

  • ¬¬

  • ahahha im singin what you write " lonchavic " it`s funny :P ahaha

  • x)

    jeje

  • he's right, you call it a piece

  • what are you talking about?

  • it has a choir originally.

  • to get this right: edvard grieg was norwegian. this piece of music is originally entitled "in der halle des bergkönigs" wich is german. by the time grieg lived it was very common to entitle music in german. thats why it has a german name although its norwegian.

  • Thank you i did not know that .very educational is utube..*smile*

  • @elbratzo who kears :D

  • song*

  • love this soung but it gives me the creeps sometimes :D

  • The 1st time I ever heard this, it was performed by an orchestra led by none other than Jeff Lynne.

  • No it's Norwegian!!!

  • Amazing performance that is all i can say...great job....i can play it on piano but thats it...great job again

  • Eh, not the best version iv heard, but its still good.

  • I first heard this song in a music lesson 1 year ago and i have liked it ever since. wasn't it in harry potter and smurfs??

  • No. "I Dovregubbens hall" is the norwegian orignial

  • You're both correct. The title is translated to english as "In the Hall of the Mountain King". I have definatly heard better versions tough...

  • Strange, on my sheet music it says, "In der Halle des Bergkonigs." or something like that. i think it's like german or something.

  • Yeah, it's German, and translated it means "In the hall of the mountain king". Surprise. XD

  • goodcommentguy...... wow

  • @bonkadventure2

it appears as a background music in the Smurfs (besides many other classical pieces like Beethoven's moonlight sonata, Tchaikowsky's 6th symphony, Schubert's "unfinished" symphony..)

  • AMAZING

  • brava.....i say great preformance

  • isen this the alton towers theme tune ?

  • FRONTIER !!!!!!!!!!

  • i played this in middle school

  • I don't get why the have translated it into "In the Hall of the Mountain King" when it's name actually is "I Dovregubbens hall"

It's like translating "Hot n' Cold" into "Varmt og Kaldt" It just doesn't work

    It

  • Really love the photography and lighting. Atmospheric.

And the isolation of the strings makes for some eerie effects. You could probably play this piece with glasses of water and I would love it.

  • Brilliant Nationalist composer.

  • tuning seems to be a bit of a problem in some places, but not bad for an intermediate band!

  • I agree with many of you. But look at it this way... Can YOU play as good as that? I know I have heard many MUCH better and darker versions of this...but really I dont think I can play that well. Like thechewydude said, if this is an amateur ensemble...than it was fairly good. If it wasnt, I would have expected more...

  • i love this song i used to be able to play it on the piano

  • Bravo.

  • Well i liked it. One of my fave tunes ever and nice to hear it played differently.

  • Yea, the one who starts playing around 1:08 seems a bit out of tune.

    But anyways, conclusion:

If it's an amateur ensemble, I must say it's quite a difficult piece to perform, and it would be a very well job done. But, if it's a professional ensemble, the performance is rather poor, I think.

  • i think ur being a lil too harsh, i mean seriously, its really good... soo... just give them some credit... i have to say though, the ending was pretty weak... :P

  • I agree, this version wasn't too good.. Apart from the lack of brass, percussion and the rest of the woodwinds (which takes away most of the work's 'dark' force as Grieg intended it), the performers made some mistakes and were indeed off-beat for a minute. And I don't know for sure, but I thought hearing one of the violins out of tune, in the pizzicato part.. I'll check it in a minute..

  • really good version. love this!

  • I was looking at another video of "In the Hall of the Mountain King". This one was different. I saw this one as a "darker" version (both creepier and actually darker video), but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. May God's peace be with you always!

    From John Nozum

  • This was actualy kinda sucky, there all off by a few miliseconds with each other and the drums made the song. this is an OK (used lightly)version of the song but still theres alot better out there. My advice find another link to this song before ruining it by listning to this version.

  • Great performance! So clear and nice without the drums and the other instruments.

  • Well I love this.

  • The stage is interesting. It's not too ridiculously theatrical but still eerie enough to compliment the song. Percussion and bassoons would help though.

  • awesome song

  • It's an awesome song and it's not very hard to play. Which makes it even more awesome.

  • "In the hall of the mountain king" is actually called "i Dovregubbens hall" (Norwegien) the compouser is Norwegien (Edvard Grieg)

  • Nah, the Greigs were fae Peeterheid, were they no? This is Charlie is my Darling with a little tweak in the rhythm. Surely!

  • This isn't the norwegian one, the norwegian one is actually good. O.o

  • yamazuraeiki

    I agree

    (but next time english please)

  • brutal!

  • sre those kids? thats a pretty hard song!

  • Good job.

  • gracias este es un verdadero aporte cultural para todos, thanks man, this is folk.

  • Kinda bad intonation...

  • Tôzen...

  • english please....

  • For the people that are marking me down:

They all are great musicians... INDIVIDUALLY!

They're not together and their balance is something to be critical on, and it affects the tone and sound quality. They aren't together. Just a little criticism can be added to anything. You can't expect a video to be sugar-coated all the time!

  • I thought the bass on this was terrific, heroic even, considering how much had to be made up for.

  • Some people are saying that this piece lacks luster for some reason, but don't point out exactly why; however, it's obvious -- there's no drums! How can the Mountain King come thundering down the hallway looking for Peer without the rumble of the timpani? How can the mountain come crashing down without that deafening, thunderous roar? That's why this piece lacks luster. Not to mention the violins are out of tune and off-tempo.

  • I broke wind at the crucial moment - wasn't that enough for you ?

  • In addition to richtomes comment I find that the songs lack of bassoons take way from the songs iconic nature.

  • To all you retards that are saying this was bad then go screw yourselves. This is a chamber orchestra. NOT A FULL ORCHESTRA, which means no drums and all the other instruments you expect. But you idiots obviously think your great even though you've never even played an instrument!!

  • I play the violin and reed and i still think this to be a bad version, your just mad your tone deff and your all alone in thinking this to be anywhere near good.

  • Renshiott Parrfm Fyrre

  • It has no suspense... It's pretty horrible all together. Impressive because of the lack of people, but still a horrible rendition. This orchestral suite is worse then my school band, and we're pretty awful.

  • At least you're honest about it.

  • i know its not supposed to be THAT high, but it IS pretty impersive becuz of the lack of people in this gruop.

  • I prefer Apocalyptica's version =)

  • THEY ARE INTENSE

  • Oh, this is an absolutely awful rendition of this piece. No drama, no excitement, nothing. The most popular Hall of the Mountain King version on youtube isn't much better, but this... urgh..

  • i totally agree. way too high. its an octave (if not two) lower. and the quality of the rendidtion is low.

its okay. but not very good. sorry kids.

  • I can't say i like the plucking at the start, a lower octave give a much better atmosphere, especially suiting the name

  • Very good =D

  • Amazing!

  • It's an amazing symphony! We learned about it during Arthistory-class and we listened this piece and it was so beautiful that as soon as I came home I searched on Youtube for more :)

  • Yes, but this isn't a symphony. It's actually part of an orchestral 'suite' - a small collection of pieces taken from a larger work. In this case the larger work is a load of background music which Grieg wrote for a play called 'Peer Gynt' by Ibsen. There are two 'Peer Gynt' Suites, each with four pieces in them. This piece comes from suite no.1. A suite is made to reduce a long work to a small concert piece - showing off the best bits without having to hear all of it.

  • Great!

  • Dude this song is so cool you should

Hear it in electric guitar its so

    Cool

  • There is a band wich has played all cool clasics on E-guitar and E-bass. Called Quartetto ... dont know if there on youtube

  • Personnately I can drop my classical guitar in C and it's much better

  • wolf hoffman does a great hall of the mountain king. totaly electric and awesome

  • ive seen the remix dude go In The Hall Of Mountain King!

  • A intersting variation of the piece.

  • Where was this taken? It's so eerie. But what a fantastic song.

  • Thanks ! It was filmed under difficult conditions in a damp musty cave, deep in the mountains of rural northern portugal where bats hang from the roof. It was performed on rough hewn fiddles by orcs, dwarves, she-gnomes, and a small troll, by the sputtering blue light of candles fashioned from mushroom resin.

  • o...kay...

  • I likee your sense of humor... :)

  • epic discripshion

  • I guess they took "In the hall of the [mountain] king" literally...

  • I can practically visualize the surroundings! Nice description!

  • Amazing!!!!!! You can feel the Norwegian folk and mithology with every note!!!

The best during the Romanticism, with Liszt!!

By the way, it's not a song, nobody is singing xD. It's a piece.

  • Everything's called a 'song' now because of IPODs and suchlike, which refer to all items as 'songs'.

  • Its not a song! ITS A COMPOSITION! AND ITS INCIDENTAL MUSIC FROM A ORCHESTRAL SUITE - The Peer Gynt Suite.

Incidental music is the ancestor of soundtracks.

  • Thank you! It is SO annoying when people continually refer to these pieces -- even some symphonies! -- as "songs," I just never had the nerve to say anything about it. Good job!

  • actually, in the proper version, the climax has a powerful male chorus portraying the giants who are chasing him on the magic carpet, shouting: "Slay him! Slay him!"

  • Unusual arrangement but still very cool

  • Hey, insanityIsaMindset, you think you could upload a video of that dance? >:D

  • thats good insanityisamindset its about having fun. oh also your name is my perspective

  • Norge, eran musik är väldigt bra.. ;) :D

  • i play this with my orchestra

  • I love this song...

While waiting for it to download, my friend and I created a dance to it...it started with me tiptoe-ing around a garbage bin, slowly, then getting faster as the music prgressed...and by the end I was flailing and dancing like a drunken fish while doing the robot, macarina and other various dances at sonic-speed like a little elf.

    Great song!!!!!!

  • NORWAY!!!!!!<3<3<3 Elsker Norge :D

  • Norvegians rocks !

  • i love this song i have it on my ipod

  • Pretty cool, i love this piece of music by grieg, but i would love to see vanessa mae play this, she would kick musical ass at this song!

  • This is the music of Garfield!

  • what?

  • UHHHH.... but before Ren and Stimpy there was this man... his name was Grieg... he wrote music - music that he would probably never had thought would be associated with cartoons.

  • My JOKE was in reference to a character known as "Old Man Hunger," a bearded and usually nude man who appeared in such classic episodes as "The Great Outdoors." "In the Hall of the Mountain King" often plays during his appearances, hence the HUMOR. I know who Edvard Grieg is, so stop being a negative nancy.

  • a wee bit sqeaky

  • i like the hall of the mountain king remix

  • ya me too..but this is awesome too

  • i LOVE this song!

  • pretty awesome. im playing this in my orchestra right now. maybe i can have someone tape it for youtube.

  • A nice sond for such a small gathering, sounds better from a fuller company though,

    still a nice sound :)

  • nice, but it lacks the symbol, and probably some other things

  • Hey, Thanks so much for putting this up, I'm just like listening to this everyday, Cheers =D

  • Awesome!!!
