I was there too, with my girlfriend. W expected a great countdown but nothing happens except the flashling lights from 25:59, not 24:00 related to the clock of the Ecole Militaire building in line of the tower ) The tower looked great but we've expected a bigger show. Never mind, we enjoyed the moment anyway.

Paris is not the best city for a new year. If you want to see fireworks in Paris, only in july 14th is possible (french revolution day), but in new year is boring and a lot of tourist wait for action and nothing happen

I was in Paris to celebrate New Year 2011. I was so happy and excited 'cause Paris is one of the most beautiful citys in the world, but in the end, I was disappointed 'cause there wasn't even one firework...I hadn't go a feeling like it was 31st december.

The city hall of Paris has banned the fireworks for New Year's eve ! I'm Parisian and i' dont understand why , it's just shamed for our city ! And its the same thing every year ! Well I know there are people using firecrackers and small fireworks but these people risk a fine of 1500 euros and perhaps even prison ! There is only one fireworks around Paris, in Disneyland Paris where the atmosphere is very much better ! Paris is so boring the December 31st ! I'm so ashamed of my city ! : (

Bonne annee, and yes, the lack of fireworks totally sucked. I was in Trocadero this year and coudn't believe how crap this was. This was pretty much just the standard twinkles you get on the hour/half hour on the Eiffel Tower normally. Total buzz kill. Sydney and London totally ruled the skies for NY fireworks. Felt like everyone else in Trocadero was going 'WFT?' too...

I guess French people installed those lasers in the tower so as not to spend their money in fireworks anymore. How stingy! Anyways, happy new year Paris! :-D

The 'lasers' in the top are search beams that are always on at night, so they're not anything special for New Year. And as for the sparkles, nothing unusual in them either. I think most parisiens/locals/ex-pats who live in Paris, were really pee'd off that there was no 'display'.. Very stingy... oi vey.. bonne annee
