  • Intresting, looks like im not the only one thats watching this in my 8th grade history class

  • We are watching this in my social studies class! Very awesome and emotional series.

  • The final picture of Indian children running in front of a giant sun at first suggests hope for the Indian people, but when it stops as a still picture,I got the impression that this Almighty burning sun is actually burning all that remains of Indian children n their future into ashes.I wonder the country usa would ever find it's soul.

  • Cant stop listening... Music belongs to Geoff Zanelli, right?

  • My husband and I watched this whole series. We really enjoyed it. I found it to be so educational! I was taught nothing like that in school. I will never feel the same way about Manifest Destiny again. The Masacare at Wounded Knee, along with so many other things, just tore my insides into knots.

  • @FromSuburbToCountry1 I am in the army, but if I were in back in those days, I think I would have sided with the Natives ala Kevin Costner.

  • I purposely left the dvd menu playing just so I could listen to this

  • i got this miniseries the whole thing used for only ten bucks on amazon! im so happy i cant wait for it to get here so that i can watch it again!!!!

  • Unfortunately, I never watch all the episodes, but I appear in one of them! The second one I think! It was amazing and unforgettable to be part (even if it's just a very little part) of this mini series :D!

One day I will watch the whole series ;)

  • This whas indeed a GREAT GREAT miniserie .. loved it very much .. coudn't wait till it whas sunday again and it whas on telly again .. oww what a amazing serie it whas !

  • 4 people get shot by Jed Smith... (an yes I did like this movie.)

  • peace

  • I love this movie, but I feel like they kind of leave me hanging at the end of the series. They could've added a bit more to the story.

  • watched this last week and this week was surprisingly good

  • Ya i had to watch it in my social studies class back in 8th grade it was awesome!!:)

  • @GetGl0cked ninth grade history class... how come we all only see this in TV or in the classroom, we owned the movie but we never watched it before.

  • HELP ME PLEASE, I HAVE DOWNLOADED THIS AND ONLY WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE, THERE HAS BEEN NO SUBTITLES FOR THE INDIAN PEOPLE WHEN SPEAKING IS THIS NORMAL ?

  • @headbangers67 No. There should be subs.

  • Watched the Series for the forth time, I learn, much. I in the west with the bear at present seeking. Thank you.

  • I cannot get this song out of my head. I came across it by accident and thought I wouldn't like it too much. Well, I adore it. It feels so real!

  • Can someone help me out? I want to buy the mini-series from amazon, but people are saying that there hasn't been an unedited/uncut version out yet, Just the one that is edited for classroom use etc. People said there are a few parts missing from the version that's available to buy :/ I want to see all the original stuff they showed on t.v. since I missed it when it originally aired. Is there a way I can buy the original?

  • I use to love this show!! The theme song really made me feel alive in a werid way lol.

I am so proud to be part Cherokee Indian!

  • @TwilightWarrior95 I am Cherokee and Choctaw!

  • haha i didn't realize gary busy played in this series.

  • loved this series when it was on to bad it was so small

  • I where done watching the series about 5 mins ago.

And I have never cried so much my entire life, not for a mini-serie.

I cried about 2 and more times for each episode. And I'm glad I did, it makes me feel human.

I never felt as much pain inside me as I did in the last episode, it was horrible. The entire way the Native Americans was threated, was horrible.

Long live the spirits of the Native Americans!

  • Id love to get this on DVD but I heard the DVD has been edited and cut for classroom use?

  • @louchy

no,go to beat buy get unedited for 40 smacksm that's where i got mine

  • @Ravagefrenzy79 You went to Best Buy to get it? Did you order it online with them? Is it unedited? Do you know for sure, like, did you see the original?

  • I remember watching this, and i remember wanting to go live in a tipi ;p. Looked like such a peacefull way of life they had.

  • I remember hating that I had to wait for the next episode to come on. I was hooked on this series from the start! It's such a good thing my mom loves westerns and made me watch this, otherwise I would have missed this excellent show!

  • SO!! EPIC!!!!!

  • Best show ever!

Thunderheart Woman and Margaret Light Shines are great rolemodels for girls (and my favorite characters!). I can never decide how I feel about Voices That Carry, though I found the part where he cuts off his hair and the part at Wounded Knee (obviously /:) the most impactful.

  • is the show still running?

  • @CRaZy4RiGHT oh no. it finished a long time ago. You can watch the dvd's now.

  • Great series!

  • This is an grate show.

  • jacob wheeler is the best man to exist! i wish men were like him nowadays .......

  • i love this mini series!

  • I love this show...I really love how they did a lota time into making this show...

I just wish that it wasn't a mini series

  • we're watching this in school!!

  • running fox is mah fave :3

  • I loved, What is title song please?

  • @mlleCindaille

    World on Fire

  • @FreeToLife and what is a artist?

  • idk about any of you guys but i love the first two episodes with thunder hear woman and jacob wheeler wow made me cry when they got seperated so romantic those two

  • OMG this movie is freakin epic!!!

  • it's actually a mini series, not a movie

  • love this song. modern native americans should get over themselves for cruelty done to 'them'. im sorry if your hundreds of years old but the chances are this didnt happen to you.

  • why dude your one of the biggest fags i saw on here stfu alright have respect you piece of shit indians were way more controlled and more pieceful than the fuckin whites

  • @burnticeblues just because your probably awhite person, you think you have the right to speak shit like that? ppl like you start crossing the line, as if you have every right too, which is total bullshit

  • Really glad that this is FINALLY available in DVD region 2... better start saving some pennies!

  • loved this mini series! I would wait week after week to watch a new episode!!

  • way is it a mini serie i cant understand

becouse each episode is 90 minutes or so

  • this is like the best movie ever and i like this song is so cool....

  • May the great spirit bless Steven Spielberg for this treasure he has bestowed upon us.

  • best series ive ever seen. really amazing

  • This movie is very touching! It makes you wanna say "this is what these white people did to the Natives?" the opening of this is beautiful...Im half native and.... damm i wish i could back in time and see the whole thing!! *tear* Best movie EVER!!!

  • Totally agree. Makes me feel ashame of the greed that white people had.

  • yea its not fair we had to suffer their cruelty

  • Loved the movie, but the one thing I didn't like about it was we never find out what happened to Abe Wheeler, or Naomi Wheeler. I kind of wanted to see what happened to them later on.

  • @MsRR2009 Hi there, I wondered the same thing myself about ( Naomi Wheeler) what happended to her and her baby and indian chief husband. After watching the whole movie, and noticing she didnt reappear after episode 2/3. Well i did find out........if you watch the opening credits of CD disk #2 of this series......you will see her in an indian dress being dragged away by some US dragoons (late 1840's early 1850's US cavalry soldiers)so that tells me she either her village was killed by US troops

  • @RockandRoller2009

OR she was thought to be a White hostage and taken against her will from her husband and child............Abe wheeler and didnt see anything about what happend to him.........I have read that certain scenes were deleted from this movie, and that would explain why we dont see what happens to Naomi or Abe wheeler

  • Someone said or maybe it was Wikipedia that Naomi was stolen from the Cheyenne and sold off somewhere else. I never saw this in the version i have but the the version that was officially sold on DVD was in fact a tad shorter so i dont know. There is a 9 hour and a 12 hour version. Abe........yeah i wanted to know what happened to him as well. But the fact that he worked on the rail helped show that the Wheelers ALL left their mark on the land in some way.

  • @maratmasry hey i have 4 disks and each has two episodes on it but each disk is 9 in a half hours long so 36 hours of footage but in those episodes they dont tell you wat happend to abe nor naomi

  • @heyhore15 maybe it was in the book :-?

  • @maratmasry if it was it would be a big ass book bigger than harrypotter series

  • @heyhore15 there is a book. I found it on Barnes and Noble and had to buy it used because it was an old book. It is not as thick as Harry Potter and it is better than magik.

  • @MsRR2009 I know.

  • Why is Christian Kane not in the credits as Abe Wheeler? Wasn't he a main character too?

  • The opening credits changed with the episode. So he could be in a different opening sequence.

  • OMG! I only can hope this series will come to my country. I'm reading the book and I love it so much! It is sooo fantastic. I don't know if the series could be as good as the novel itself.

  • This was a book?

  • Unfortunately in the meanwhile I found out I was mistaken with sg else. When I wrote the comment I haven't seen the names yet.... What I was talking about is The Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes. This isn't that story.:-(( Sorry

  • Oh okay lol

  • Yes, by author Dee Brown He wrote it as a history of the west from the perspective of the Native Americans, rather than from the Eurocentric point-of-view.

  • @llovejersey trust me the first two episodes will make you wanna cry its fantastic and of course it is steven spielberg was the executive producer whcih makes it 10xs better

  • Omg, I didn't realize Josh Brolin was in this! He was really good in this. Heck, the whole series was great!

  • I really liked that series, especially that score for it. Where can I find it here?

  • You cant. I brought the soundtrack and it didnt have any of the songs from the series on it; just a bunch of random songs, ive never heard of.

  • the actual score for the movie is non existent. Only an "inspirational" album which i thought was stupid

  • thx man great vid, awsome and touching soundtrack. god damn i cried hard, makes me feel bad for these ppl

  • The show was absolutely brill. Though I was crying while watching some scenes. Example: When poor litte Hoke Hoke was forced to go to that stupid school, I cried even harder.

Or during the Massacre of Wounded Knee. And afterwords when the Holy Man (forgot his name) was doing the death ritual and some idiot white soldier pushed him back and hit him so hard.

I dislike rascim very much it turns my inside to the outside, if you know what I mean. It breaks my heart.

  • Loved by the Buffalo was the name of the man that was pushed, but I was never able to catch the name in Lakota. And yes, the school thing was difficult for me as well. But him cutting his own hair was symbolic in itself since Native men cut their hair in times of great mourning....this was most definitely a time of mourning :((

  • Wa Do!

I apreaciate you putting this up. I've just recently discovered this show and enjoy it greatly. Would you by any chance know the name of the song?

  • Good times in 2005.

  • Loved this show, very sad a lot of it though

  • good series!!! my cousin is in it too!!!!!

  • What ? What do you mean by "in it" ?

  • he had a native american part., look up "christian baste" in google. he is the first one. believe me

  • Waow yeah I see . Thats pretty cool :)

    So he's a kid I can tell?

Well then , are you a native american too?

  • ya, im a little over 50%.

but i dont look like it, i look like any old 13 year old girl my age

  • Okay :)

But remember to be proud of the "little-over-50%-part" ;)

  • i no :)

i am proud to be indian. i get my indian from my mom, she is 93% but she looks just like me.

my uncle is less than 50% and he looks like he is 100%

  • indians are an important part in the history... be proud to be a part of it. ;)

there is not much history in the usa compared with europe or other cultures.

  • Oh that's pretty cool :)

Im glad that your proud :b hihi

  • ya!

  • Best mini series to exist

  • @Foretolds either this or centennial

  • @Foretolds without a doubt!

  • I have always loved this time period. I hate what happened to the Native Americans. Their story is a romantic one but with a tragic ending.

This opening theme is awesome. So powerfu.

  • I hate what is still happening to First Nations.

  • There are several other movies over a span of decades that are about the American Indian experience: "Tecumseh: The Last Warrior," "The Mission" (with Robert De Niro), "Crazy Horse,"

"Little Big Man" (Dustin Hoffman), "Dances with Wolves" (Kevin Costner), the documentary "500 Nations" (hosted by Kevin Kostner), and one I feel that even though it takes place in New Zealand shows indigenous people who struggle in contemporary Western society "Once We Were Warriors"

  • None I've asked know of it.

I remeber seeing the first parts when it was aired on Swedish television while back.

So I decided to download it, I will buy it as soon as I see it somewhere.

It's the most amazing catch of the real west in a show ever.

What more to say.. Spielberg made it.

It even made me begin learning the language of Lakota Sioux.

  • lol, I tried to learn Lakota too! I even did a project for school on the Lakota in 8th grade

  • Even though ur comment is pretty old divine i feel good when i hear this song too. It's so capturing but it's feeled with such meaning.

  • its a shame that such a world power such as america was built upon a base forged of such bigotry and violence.

  • omg i just watched this whole mini-series in school! they aren't that bad but everyone makes fun of them :) lol

  • maybe in the usa but not in other countries...

  • In Canada, too. Canada has recently been accused of genocide and other human rights violations by the UN, and rightly so.

  • does anyone know another movie with westmen and not GUNSLINGERS

(something like this and winnetou i supose) thanx

  • This is one of the greatest films I have ever seen in my life! It's perfect in any way, the actors are brilliant, the story is compelling, full of emotions, it almost made me cry. I mean this is a masterpiece, there won't be anything like this for a long time.

It's a shame that this doesn't get the fame it deserves (at least not in germany). Actually more than 95% never even heard of this

  • The Americans do discuss it, just most are trying to educate and improve in order to avoid history repeating itself, rather than continue the cycle of hating each other for something 2 to 300 years old. That would be like going on and on about the spanish and the inquisition or the atrocities england did to the scots and irish...what's done cannot be undone but wounds can heal IF some would allow it, but they wont.

  • very good series.....why won't the americans ever discuss the genocide of Native Americans?

  • I love the music

  • I just downloaded it to see it all, But it's really worth buying so I'll do that if there are any dvd-pack out there.

  • i got mine off ebay about £24,new and sealed, was cheaper ones but liked the guys feedback, well worth getting

  • Im watching this TV series in School

  • im watched it in school to when i was in 5th grade...

  • yeh, great story of the white mans expansion to complete the destuction of countless life ways of hundreds of tribes, does it somehow make those whites feel more noble? how about you? good historical accounts though

  • Beautiful, beautiful mini-series! My favorite. Even the opening credits are wonderful... just listen to that music!

  • this is the best series i have ever seen! The indians have had it worse than the blks and the mexs. We need to give the land back to the Indians!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow...what is the point of comparing different groups' oppression? especially when all of these oppressions are interlocked together within the same system: America's white supremacist, imperial hegemony

  • @afrikaDR

    what is the point?

so that the 'truths of history' can be known.

otherwise we are all walking blind through life.

  • @jagib2 ...not really sure what you're talking about. What is the point of comparing slavery to the Holocaust to Russian pogroms to ethnic cleansing in Palestine? Statistics mean nothing, especially when to understand the human toll of a catastrophe you only need one sole account.

'Truths of history' are not unlocked by comparing oppressions, which sums up to victims/minorities infighting. Truths are unlocked when the voiceless rise and press the powers at be to hand over the key...

  • AMEN

  • i love the series and the music. does anyone know the name of the song playing here?? i have it on a CD somewhere, but can't find it and it's bugging me

  • As a white Duth guy, I am ashamed of what we have done. Honor to you, Lakota people. This must be the best Native American Show ever. Absolutely worth a 10. Can someone help me with a site, where you can find pictures of Willene Tootoosis and Cassie Lefthand, who played White Eyes Woman ( mother of Thunder Heart Woman )and Grandmother Good Path. I would like to know more of them. May Wakan Tanka guide you.

  • EVER seen dreamkeeper??

  • No, I have not. Could you inform me some more about it?

  • one of the best series ever! and one of the best opening sequences

  • This is by far the best series that I have ever seen! The opening song is very beautiful. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a single store where they sell the DVD-box :(

  • I believe I got mine at Best Buy.

The current price for it is $34.99.

If you can't find it in the store, though, just have them order it for you.

Best Buy is great about that kind of stuff and they'll call you when your order is in.

    xox

  • i love this song, and the opening music. it so surreal. and unreal. long live the lakota tribe.

  • yess it wass awesome... i cried so hard the last episode especially:)) its sad cuz we kinna what was going to happen in the end

  • I can never get through any one of these episodes without bawling my eyes out. Look at the evil that we're capable of. It's horrible.

    xox

  • this was such a good series

  • fighting and bloodshed. its not worth it. war isnt worth it.

  • this song and series makes me sad. all that fight and blood.

  • this was a REALLY cool story

  • when i saw the miniseries i thought "imax".

  • love it

  • Being Cherokee/Mohawk/Creek me and my dad watched the whole series, we even bought the DVD set, this was the most amazing movie series next to "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee" and "Spirit of the Seventh Fire"

  • I have the box set too. Lol.

Many friends of my family are extras, from the Crowdog Lakotas.

    xox

  • some named "clippedmywings" is looking for this on dvd, could you write and help?

  • Oh, sure.

    I'd be very glad to.

    =)

    xox

  • One of the best miniseries ever. When you think of the scope of all the events covered, it's staggering. The only other miniseries I can think of that is that good is Shogun. Fortunately, I have both of them on dvd.

  • Where the hell can I find this series online?

  • not....

  • hello! you will find one free online version of "into the West" (in French language) in the site of VEOH TV.

  • I know. I saw it, but the thing is, I don't understand French. I know this must seem strange to you since I'm typing in it so fluently. =/

  • this was a awesome movie...

  • PWNED

  • I love the show and music

  • we watched it in history class and i was immediately in love:D nice serie

  • if you say so.

on a slightly off topic note,id like to remind you that native americans or whatever you call yourselves descend from asians (not necessarily far east asians but asians nonetheless) when they crossed the bering strait thousands of years ago.and we all descended from people in africa.

but dont think i dont symphathize with the "forgotten holocaust" of the native americans. it was a brutal thing to do beyond words. but you cant turn back time so how about trying to live in peace eh?

  • honey, im asian, so please go to hell.

im just saying that the white people are so rooted in america now that its impossible for them to all leave.

  • You're "native indian", but Indians are from India. I'm Native American, meaning I'm of the red skin, and white skin. However, your spelling of "carma" is slightly off by one letter. Stop threatening people, it's not good for YOUR karma. You should know that, being "native indian" and all.

  • By far the best mini series i have ever seen in my life i looked forward to every night that it came on sad thing is i never wanted it to end

  • its not gunna happen xD

  • this is one of my most favorite things to watch of all time! I watch this show at least once a month!
