@1:26 he does the unbalanced roundhouse to a counter hook kick just like he described in a tutorial I watched of his recently on it. Amazing how he took three basic kicks and made them into something spectacular
The thing I enjoy the most about this video is to know how much Mr. McCarthy would grow in Bujutsu, explore the Martial Arts beyond just the physical. I have a couple of Mr. McCarthy's books. Watashi ha Nihon no bujutsu, bunka, rekishi no benyo o shimashita mata Okinawa no bujutsu, bunka, rekishi no benkyo mo shimashita. McCarthysensei domo arigato gozaimashita.
Man, this makes me so nostalgic. I remember watching these fights on ESPN back in the '80s and while experience has taught me better, I still love the grace of their high kicking.
You know, all, Bill could've been one tough MMA fighter too, if he had some time to train low kicks, and if he could kick w/ his right leg as well (Unfortunately, he couldn't use his right leg for kicking due to injury.)
I would like to hear what Bill Wallace thinks of todays UFC compared to the old full contact karate leauge of the early 1970,s.I am trying to watch these UFC matches and see what all the fuss is about before i judge it.The UFC fighter from Montreal is a well respected, friendly guy who i seen on television interviews but i never seen him fight, yet.UFC fighters look in great shape, have flashy intros to the ring, and they look like they mean business but how would they do against a Chuck Norris
Bill Wallace was the reason i joined Karate school in 1974. I used to love watching his matches and studying his style. It takes a long time to learn his spinning reverse kick but its so awesome when you can actually do the move.I seen Bill Wallace matches that didn,t last very long when his foot slammed into the side of his opponants head with that spinning kick.Bill Wallace would take out any UFC fighter today, without a doubt. Even Brock Lesner.Anybody agree?
I love Wallace too man, but I dont think he ever fought over 170lbs. As you can see in the Wallace/Lewis match on youtube, if the kids are absorbed or deflected, the fighter can move in on wallace and remove the threat of the leg. Once someone like Lesner had his hands on him...so long Billy.
Come on ... what a naive thing to say! I liked Muhammad Ali, too...but he'd stand little chance against most MMA fighters. Apples and oranges pal! Wake up!
That is true Sensei, I met Bill Superfoot Wallace at two seminars hosted by Michael Campos. Bill does have a good wrestling and some judo (hence his knee injury), he is a great guy
Brock Lesnar is simply a big ass side of beef. Superfoot Wallace was a great fighter in his day and defined the state of the art as the rules stipulated back then.
Furthermore most MMA fighters are merely cuts of meat that are fed into the UFC sausage machine. Dana White is an exploitative controlling bitch, and once the crowd loses interest the MMA fighter fades to nothingness and that's it.
Bill Wallace continues to be a gentleman decades later.
LOL @ 1:26: "C'mon, he's tiring, get him!" As if "Superfoot" ever got tired. He still is in superb condition in his 60's. Hats off to both fighters in this exhibition fight tho!
McCarthy sensei was this recorded at the Alantic City Convention Center on the boardwalk during the summer of 1975? Would have been the same night Joe Lewis fought Ross Scott.
Of course this was such a well kept secret no one ever heard of it!!!!!!!!how long do you think such an event could have been kept out of such mags as BLACL BELT etc. an hour 2 maybe?HI SENSEI PAT long time no see since AIKI KEMPO days and SENSEI HAYASHI and BOB DALGLEISH
It ia amazing what Wallace was able to do with just a front leg roundhouse, hook and side kick. Along with a jab and left hook punch. He is truly one of a kind.
Bill Wallace was and still is an excellent martial artist and person.his techniques are great and can easily fit into most kickboxers repoitoire,as don the dragon demonstrates..
Budo? It's the modern interpretation of Japan's old fighting arts. Judo, Kendo, and Karate, etc., have all established their places in the competitive arena.
Sure don't make em like this anymore. Now it's all tatoos, roids, and tight shorts. Where is true budo? And before you blister me with nonsense..I compete and train and I'm telling you we are missing something.
I agree. There may be more really skilled competitive martial artists out there in the ring today, but there are fewer I think I can really respect as people. Maybe I'm idealizing the past, but I can't help but think something of the spirit has been lost.
Sir, I admire your all-round ability...you've done it all. I guess success also generates your fair share of envious losers, too. Ignore them and focus on what you're doing...so well.
Sensei McCarthy! Your book on karate Katas was one of the first books I bought 18 years ago when I first started karate! I still have it, it's great to see you in action!!
Great stuff, I have met and trained with Bill, great guy and top Martial Artist, unfortunately (or luckily) I missed out on a demo fight with him, we both suffered injuries in the lead up.
Bil Wallace has an incredible upper body , nice muscular lats. Love how he can throw that 70 mile an hour kick

if you listen real closely @ 1:06, you can hear somebody (1 of the announcers I think) talking about Chuck Norris & the movie...."A Force of One".

You just have to watch interviews. I've seen many a fighter's personality come out during an interview. Like Remy Bonjasky, or Kevin Randleman.
