  • Stop being such asses. Its clear that he was working out before the video and, therefore, is tired and panting. The idea is not to show how he works out great with perfect breathing technique, but to show the core exercises. And he really did a great job on that.

  • lol i can really see how people see him as funny because hes out of breath, but i would suggest to any one to try explaining your workout, while your working out and give a running commentary, its quite a skill! though yeah..... its still amusin, but good tips, so thanks!!

  • Your butt is too high for the planks. I see too many people who don't straighten their bodies for planks. Why do the exercise if you're going to half-ass it?

  • All great core exercises but you should not do them before a workout, unless you are in fantastic shape. Core/Abs should be done at the end of the workout; before can massively reduce strength and core stability during a rigorous workout...and could have potentially harmful consequences, almost as harmful as this guy not properly breathing. But still very effective and very powerful workouts if used properly.

Been in fitness a long time, and training core is crucially functional to activities of daily living, preventing injury, and has truly shown great physical results in the ladies I train. Thanks. PS - guess I will take a deep breath too when I work core, because it is not easy to have a conversation and do some of these core exercises :)

  • If you knew what you were doing, you would realize the woodchops already work your obliques and abdominals, superset the wood chops with a plank exercise with weight transfer. then you'll be a wall in football, a killer in hockey, or whatever sport you do. And the farmers walk doesn't engage your core that much, do a suitcase walk with about a 70 pounder in one hand

  • chopped downs trees for fun when i was workin in the yukon on a drill rig, did this for two months and came back a beast, although i was workin 12hr days heavy labour and ate mad steak n carbs! im sure it helped:D

  • This new age core stuff are just odd movements to generate new business. They have no scientific backing. is anyone honestly going to tell me that strongmen, powerlifters, wrestlers who are the strongest of athletes and DONT do these 'core movements" weak? Nothing works like good old squats, deadlifts and benches.

  • Wouldn't you be fatigued if you did this before lifting, thus increasing the likelihood for injury? You're supposed to "engage" your core and make sure it's "firing" when you lift as well, so I feel like this would be better for after lifting.

  • core strengthing is so difficult i find. Every other bodypart i find easy to strengthen. Anyone know of one of these programs thats worked out good for them?

  • @81dazzer check out synergyfitnessinc youtube page just search it in videos and they should come up. theirs an exercise called core crawl i think, thats basically a plank but you crawl forward, reach outwards, then crawl back, reach up, sounds basic but its the best core exercise ive ever done. That and basic plank are what have worked well for me, if you try and increase your plank time by 10-30 seconds everyday you'll be doing 4 min planks sooner than you think :). hope this helps.

  • You're probably one of those typical apes who goes to the gym, grabs a 30 dumbbell, sits and does 5 reps, then puts the weight down and stares at himself in the mirror for 5 minutes right before he goes and waltzes around the entire floor area posturing and strutting into wash/rinse/repeat about 4 times before people start noticing you and wonder to themselves just how much of a narcissist you really are. Typical.

  • id watch doing too much core work before heavy squats or deads, but good vid otherwise. was cool to see farmers walks advocated for core stability.

  • hey spanglord, i would prefer to drink out of a pink water bottle, because it would represent my respect for the breast cancer foundation, and by the way, breathing is important to working out, if your muscles do not get enough oxygen then they cannot function properly, so take your dumbass remarks elsewhere and dont be a negative shit.

    next time you go to the gym, just hold your breath for you entire workout.

    if you cant do that, why dont you bench press 150lbs on 12-10-8-6 reps and hold you breath for all of it.

  • Good advice on the reps stuff - too many people get worked up on that stuff. Just work on the movement as you say - perhaps use time in instead of reps - so work out for 5 mins etc or do intervals. Much better than sets and reps!

    you need to take a deep breathe through your nose, than WHILE doing the exercise, you have to blow out the air through your mouth.

  • @HotIceMan1 you can breathe however you want, if you do exercises fast and instantly blow out you just burn yourself. my advice is to have a smooth breath that you wont get swindle

    Yes it will be tough! Breathing is essential...! You need direction, on the side bend(No hands on your waist and stay straight/your butt is sticking out)

    And stay smooth throughout the full range of motion, rather than quick choppy movement.

    Yes your have musclemass good sir. However your way(in this video) decreases flexibillty and could adress the balance aspect in a better way....

  • good vid, another good thing to do for core is doing as many weights as you can standing. Your core should be working to keep you stable if you do things standing.

  • idk about this guy my boxing teacher tells me to blow out air when Lifting weights and then breath in ect. Example Bench press pushing up ur letting out air when u bring it back down u take a gasp of air.

  • cool, but i also heard from another trainers video that its better to work your core rather at the end of your workout since your core muscles are already enganged in pretty much every workout you dont risk burning it out that way
