I've had a d200 since they came out in 2005. I'm finally buying a new camera today, the d700 and I can't wait. Now I just have to update half my lenses to fx so that's going to be about 8 grand altogether. But it will be worth it. The d200 has been an among freaking camera though and served me well.
Good review, thanks! You may want to consider an even older 50mm f1.8 AI or AI-s long nose ~ even better optics and a little closer focusing! AF will be great for flash work and all kinds of metering, but plastic will not last as long.
Just want to say that the shutter count starts over once you reach 10,000. On my d3000 i have over 22,000+ exposures just from 7 months. That also could be because my friends (who know anything about cameras) use it sometimes and they take like 7 shots of the same thing. Maybe I have shot way more pictures than I should have but just wanted to let you know that the counter eventually clicks out.
@iobylliW about that..The f.stop and shutter speed is controlled through the lens manually. The specs on D200's screen will not show the settings of your AIS lens will it? I have a Canon T2i btw, but just wandering because I'm buying a mount to fit on my telescope.
Thanks for the review. I have a D200 and it is a great camera. Hope the lens is ok? I also have the 50mm f1.8, bought it on ebay for about £40 and it works well. I like the fact that you can use manual lenses on the D200 and have a few manual lenses myself.
they seem fine, just the focus ring on the front has torqued up a few notches - it's now slower to move between infinity and the closest point. It's okay though, it felt like i'd dropped a child! I'd hate to think what i'd have done had it broken
yes...its the Nikon MB-D200, got it at ebay. it's totally worth it. not only it gives you the option for the 2nd battery and the vertical shutter release, but it gives me a better feel when holding the camera.
nice review. i got my D200 last month, a xmas gift for myself :-) i started with the D60, the d200 is definitely much much better. i got myself a battery grip too. enjoy your D200
@iobylliW I actually stopped using me my grip. I bought a second battery, just in case, but I have not had one die on me during anything important.. So, for me I will say no the grip isnt all that.

@rensper I'd buy something with 20k or less but that's just me. As long as the price is right.

so it doesnt auto focus with the 50mm 1.8?
kpbrian79 1 year ago
@kpbrian79 Only because this particular lens is an old AIS lens.. the newer 50mm AF will work fine

This or D90?
I have some old lenses that won't meter with the D90, and I can be rough with my camera, but is the image quality on this good?

never plug the camera or it's mem card directly in a computer, Buy a $15.00 card reader to stay in your port.
