This is great because this is the style I love to play too on my djembe! A lot of people think it sux playing like this for unknown reasons, but I think this style is awesome!
this may not be traditional djembe technique, but it's very enjoyable and give me some new ideas about what's possible with the instrument. Impressive sound. Nice job.
Sorry, that came out wrong: I meant to say "BUT so what". I use lots of 'fusion techniques' on the Arabic Tablah. I wasn't intending criticism.
IMO proper technique is essential, whether a "doumbek" or a djembe, as I do see a lot of people that THINK they are being creative and original, but in actuality, they are mumbling, babbling, hurting their hands - Doing anything and everything but making a concise statement. It's vitally important to learn how to articulate, so you can speak clearly.
there actually is a traditional technique, which is beautiful, but for purposes of people like barefootdave, and me non-traditional just works better :)
There is a difference between someone who thinks they are amazing and trys to teach people trash and someone like this who is honest and just wants to share some beats. This video has no need for negative comments.

Terrible Djembeplaying....another sad example about the often missunderstood Djembe....the only good thing about this: you don´t call it "lesson" like many amateur players on youtube do.....
Pfffftt... so what exactly is the point of you posting that comment? The guy has a cool drum beat going, and you just can't help yourself but knock SOMETHING. Stop whining.
Just stumbled in to this one while browsing, barefoot dave, but I'm glad I did...it may have more hard-rock influence than some of the other djembe videos I've seen, but it's probably the best-sounding djembe playing I've come across..gonna catch the rest of your instructions, bro'...
Wow, I love the double bass sound, is that with the fingers and thumb or are you rolling your hand forward? and what is that cupping motion you do towards the beginning? And also, God bless you for being a missionary!
Hey man , I do the cup with my left hand to tighten up the head to make it much higher. You can also do it with just the tips of either hand on the edge.
not bad. you should get together with 3 or 4 other djembes/dundun and jam it up, cause you got rythm flowing deep in your arteries. Keep up the good vibes!
Hello sir, actually, you are a very good drummer.BUT...your style would be better if you use it on congas...your tips/bass (on the left hand)is really close to the congas technique.well...keep up the good work.
Hey Joe, I have tried congas's but it takes much more hand technique and finess for me and they seem to have less tone variation so I prefer djembas, especially when miced well.
cdr....i can latr make lot of videos with aftican rhytms :) even few brazil or whatever :D just need to get a web cam or anykind of cam to record...ya i learned those barefootdave rhytms...but my djembe is from africa..not like eiropian style...so i cant make those noise as he ;) coz it wont allow me..*not noob* :D Andrew.
Wow ! You play like you're playing practically full drum set ! Thank you for the lessons, please make more vids. I just got my Djembe yesterday, but I can't find any rhythms on line specifically for Israeli music. Can you play any or do you know of any links? This will be for worship. Thank you !
yeah !! im like djambe player too ;) can u make more movies with playing? :0 and a little bit louder.. :D btw nice style~ something like that here too...but still i got more african rithms here... :)
Nice work Dave! I also have some djembe instruction videos for anyone looking for guidance.

I love My Djembie! Its Soooooooo Adictive!
the only thing is im limited to play time due to my next door... a Djembie Drum is well worth it.

ooooow i can't do the double slap with my right hand because i usually doit with my left
togster106 3 years ago
If you're going to just play trap drum beats, then why play a djembe? They sound much better on a drum set anyway.
lJohnnyTheFoxl 3 years ago
Can you sling a trap kit over your shoulder and take it on the bus?
Sammyboy72 3 years ago
Better is a matter of opinion. How many people play a drum kit in modern music? How many people play Djembe? It's a unique sound.

Yep, good rhythm, but that sure isn't djembe technique... So what?

Yeah, because creativity and originality are useless, why try anything new?
