Sorry, that came out wrong: I meant to say "BUT so what". I use lots of 'fusion techniques' on the Arabic Tablah. I wasn't intending criticism.

IMO proper technique is essential, whether a "doumbek" or a djembe, as I do see a lot of people that THINK they are being creative and original, but in actuality, they are mumbling, babbling, hurting their hands - Doing anything and everything but making a concise statement. It's vitally important to learn how to articulate, so you can speak clearly.

Hey man , I do the cup with my left hand to tighten up the head to make it much higher. You can also do it with just the tips of either hand on the edge.
