Nothing is more satisfying after watching an all out war like that, than to see both guys turn around, shake eachothers hands and give eachother due respect. Great fight, great sportsmanship.
My favorite part of this video is at 2:35 when Dicky says, "That sounds good." I KNEW he was gonna say something! I swear man, Dicky is CONSTANTLY in the spotlight! Even when he isn't!
They beat the living crap out of each other, twice, and then at the end shake hands and talk like best mates. Brilliant. You dont get that with some of the top fighters, people like Floyd. I don't care if they are the best boxers, Gatti and Ward are the best people.
I kinda agree with Merchant. Gatti whooped Ward so badly in this fight, I'm surprised they had a 3rd fight. I honestly didn't give one round to Ward in this fight. There wasn't one moment where Ward actually looked like he was winning.
I'm glad they had a 3rd fight, but looking back on it now, I'm surprised that it happened.
It weren't just the fights themselves that made this so damn epic, it's the sportsmanship of these guys. Imagine that: pounding the shit out of eachother for 30 rounds, and stepping out of the ring with the most respect they could ever have for eachother. That's the definition of sport. Didn't even matter who won the fight, as long as the crowd won. Heavyweights nowadays should learn a lesson from this and make this sport as great as it once was.
