most star players other than fundamental players such as duncan, love, bynum and maybe a few other playerswould be bench warmers in the 80s and 90s imho. todays game is based more on flash than fundamentals which is rather sad.
They would have to change their entire game because the defense was good fundamentally, they collapsed, they helped, they didn't give up and-ones, they recovered and you didn't get baby fouls and you had to earn free throws. You face doubles and triples and the entire team when you come to the lane. But, on the other hand, Jordan, Olajuwon, Ewing, Penny, Clyde, Pippen, Wilkins, Bird, Magic, Sir Charles, Shawn Kemp, Isaiah, Karl Malone, John Stockton, and David Robinson would have a field day now
@Kenny1984 to have survive because you wasn't facing one person you had the whole team. Kobe, Wade and especially Lebron depend on fouls to get points. They would all have to alter their games or they would suck. Just the attitude and the tenacity of the defense back then just frustrate them. But, I think Kobe and Wade could have changed to make an impact, but the way they play now would not work. "Kobe and Lebron would have a field day" I can't believe you said that disrespect..........
@Kenny1984 most of these players don't guard Kobe, most of them suck now, B roy is retired and played Kobe for what 4 or 5 good years, Melo and KD doesn't matchup against Kobe, and the fact that he only faces Wade and Lebron twice throughout the entire year so please shut up with this bull competition. When it comes down to it Kobe, Wade, Lebron face really weak defenses that don't have fundamentals; getting every call possible. I'm a Rose fan but Rose would have to seriously alter his game.....
@Kenny1984 are you serious when did game only depend on athleticism. Lebron and Kobe would struggle. Players didn't play one on one so it didn't matter that it was Isaiah or Dumars because the entire team helped defend him. Again are you serious, people back then had a thing called hustle and fundamentals unlike the garbage defenses now. You don't have to be athletic to be dominant talk to Kevin Love. You sound so stupid. Kobe doesn't face Wade, Tmac, VC, AI, Lebron, Melo, KD, B roy.........
All these MJ rules wouldnt mean a damn thing if Jordan have great shooter camping on the lanes
Also notice the sizes of the Piston guards vs MJ lol
MJ is 6'6 with a 40 inch hop
Joe Dumar is 6'3, Isaiah 6'0 . Rodman is the only one who can match up with MJ in term of size but MJ speed , agility and first step poses too much threat for Rodman to guard him 1 one 1.
Again this is late 80s , before Pippen develop.
All this MJ rules wouldnt mean a damn thing if MJ had better teammates
@sp00kyfrank Defenses suck now because they have soft players who think they athleticism can cover up their lack of fundamentals. I know you didn't mention Lebron James he would suck back then or it would have forced him to be better. It doesn't matter how big or how fast when you got five guys collapsing on you in the lane and beating you around. You needed mental toughness and a jump shot which Lebron has neither. Lebron and Kobe are lucky to have not played throughout the 80's and 90's
@23TDJ "Lebron and Kobe are lucky to have not played throughout the 80's and 90's"
Umm no Lebron and Kobe would have a field day
Back then the defenders lateral speed is pathetic . One step and Lebron would be at the rim. same with Kobe. He would just rise over his defender for a easy jumpshot
@sp00kyfrank cont. runs a zone now nobody everybody plays man to man today. The 80's and 90's teams played together on defense and knew how to collapse and recover. Players now suck on defense they don't help well, they don't collapse, and they are constantly beat. Kobe played at the end of the 90's when the rules were changed and the three point line was moved closer so no he came just when the league was getting soft. That is some real disrespectful stuff............
Don't know what youre smoking on but if you watch the 80s, 90s defense. The lateral speed and footwork of the defenders are terrible compare to today defenders.
MJ was one of the few that have a deadly first step thus he was able to beat his unathletic defender to the rim.
Put Kobe and Lebron , Wade, Rose, etc back in the 80s and 90s and it would be nightmare for the defenders
@sp00kyfrank are you serious no defense of this era will compare to the defense of the 80's and 90's. People like you put way too much stock in height and size and not enough into fundamentals. Btw the guards were shorter but the forwards and centers were taller and bigger. First the zone was illegal in the 80's and 90's but they played a floating zone or trapped and ran double and triples at Jordan and collapsed on anybody coming to the rim. Today you can run a zone, but who actually.........
@Novinte ... dosent haft to.... regardless to what you think... it is successful defense.. the pistons beat the bulls that year and went on to win the NBA Championship
@Novinte ... this is perfect Defense to shut down a one man offense...... Micheal Jordan and the bulls did not get past the pistons until they started really playing as a team....
The 2008 and 2010 celtic defense that kobe faced was better than this defense. Celtic's had bigger taller defenders(Pierce, Ray Allen, Tony Allen) on Kobe compared to a 6'3 Joe Dumars guarding MJ. Celtic's played zone defense which was illegal in Jordan's era. Jordan lived in an era of 1v1 basktball.
@sp00kyfrank I disagree. The defenses like this one and the early 90's Knicks were just as tough as today's zones. I'm sure if Kobe played in that era, he'd have a tough time going through two, three, maybe even four defenders. Also, there was no defensive 3 second rule, which meant big men could camp out in the paint. There would most likely be a big man waiting for him if he went to the basket.
@nreid310 Kobe having trouble going through 2,3,4 defenders?? Kobe's been facing double and triple teams his whole career, and people forget that kobe played during Jordan's era and rules during his early years straight out of high school, and he still had incredible games as a rookie/sophomore. Kobe also played against a spurs team with Bowen and the twin towers in the paint D.Rob and T.Duncan in the wcf. Not to mention Kobe had 42 points including 9 dunks in that game
@sp00kyfrank Even with the rules change that was implemented to make it easier for perimeter players Kobe has average under 48% EVERY SINGLE SEASON of his NBA career. Last season he led the league in missed shots AGAIN. So to summarise my point, KB is a volume scorer not an efficient scorer like MJ, even though he has advantages that MJ didn't have, by playing in a less defensive era.
if kobe played in this era i bet he would pack his bags, finish college, work as a salesman and wait till the badboys retires from basketball... but since after detroit the knicks arises then he rather be a salesman...
@wornoutshoes11 uhh you're stupid, and obvoiusly don't watch enough basktball. It is quoted by all great NBA coaches analysts that Kobe is one of the toughest players to ever play the game. Byron Scott said Kobe would have loved it. It's on youtube search it find it and realize that im right, and you're ignorant.
@WorldIsCold UHH..Lebron is 6'8. MJ is 6'6. Lebron is faster, stronger, and is possibly the best finishers in the game. Look at the perimeter defenders in this video. Lebron would run them over....
@sp00kyfrank wtf?are you high?james couldnt even run over guys like jason kidd and tony allen. no way would he "run over" dennis rodman or even joe dumars. dennis rodman would guard james if james played the pistons.
you know you're the greatest when a whole team says you are "sensational" when you dribble to your right, yet "only great" when you dribble to your left.
I saw a lot of defensive 3 second violations, 2 guys in paint but only one actually defending, now i may be wrong because i am not TOO familiar with the defensive 3 second rules but it seems like a lot of them were violating that.
@Murasban That is because, at that time, there was no three second lane violation. That is why Jordan will always be the greatest; he played under the toughest rules and he dominated.
I understand that people on Youtube like this kind of foul calling more than today's, but a lot of these things were against the rules in the 90s just as they are today. The entertainment comes from bad refereeing.
This is why you can't compare kobe and Jordan, you can't even play defense the way the pistons played today, that would be a tech today. And so Jordan and Kobe learned two different ways of playing. Even Jordan said you can't go around saying whose the best because its not fair to the times all these guys played in.
this is the exact defense Kobe faced vs the celtics... the only difference is that Kobe doesnt have Pippen, paxson, kerr, kukoc, armstrong, harper, etc. to shoot open shots! he has SHANNON BROWN, FARMAR, ARTEST, ODOM, AND FUCKING FISHER HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Kobe's better man, it aint close.
MJ spent his offseasons by gambling his money off.. Kobe almost always spends his offseasons to basketball.
Paying off in his ability to hit some of the most difficult shots... like left-handed three pointers, half court shots, behind the backboard jumpers & dunking on peeps like Dwight ..
KB24 is a harder working player then MJ, in the history of NBA no one has worked harder at his game than Kobe "the G.O.A.T. Bryant.
@KOBEandCAMBRIA24 Thats quite a claim. Make a similiar video and show that, because I watched that series. No way did the Celtics bring tenth of physicality that is shown in the video. They couldn't-Not just nbecause they didn't have the same personnel or the coach to urge it, as Daly did for the Pistons, but also because the referees in the last decade have purposefully and effectively cut much hard defense out of the game.
@KOBEandCAMBRIA24 how can the celtics play the exact defense with kobe when there are no more hand checking and no 3 sec defensive rule? your opening statement alone says a lot how ignorant u and your comparisons are. stop being stupid... u do have a choice did'nt u know that?
IF they bulls set effective screens every time they played the pistons in the playoffs they would have won, but give all the to the pistons they played great defense. Today, The only time i see this kind of defense is in the playoffs..
It took time the thing is the pistons played great help defense thats really what the jordan rules where all about but ofcourse the physical naturer of it played the role. The thing is, you see multiple times duhmars and the like with hands all over him and thats just the first level. Then you have the second and third help bodying up and he still scoring. Today those all would be fouls. That jordan as phil said would average 43 in todays game.
@Bigturns33 If you watched the 1998 finals chicago vs utah you would definitely notice a huge difference in play calling and hand checking was one of them. I dont think jordan could consistently score 43 or more points in all 82 games of a season. Basketball has definitely evolved. The NBA is still the best league. Example: even though the fiba league is physical, it does not mean the players in the nba today dont have the potential to play at a high level while being physical
@Bigturns33 You also have to keep in mind that because of the number of fouls being called. Players do foul out quicker today. Jordan would probably foul out before he could reach 50 or 100 points in a game. With these rules and fouls thats are called its just not averaging 40 plus just might not even be possibly. If you watched the 2011 playoffs many players picked up 2 fouls in the first quarter of the game, this takes them out of there comfort zone.
Fallacy one is this. Jordans offensive game would still exist and be the same. In todays game in his prime he would easily average 40 Plus. He averaged 37 in 88 which means he damn near had 40 plus every game. He had strings of 40 plus and 50 plus games then. Jordan next to scottie pippen was the greatest defender so regardless he would still be a great defender either way. Jordan was not a passing lanes steals defender and hes 3rd all time steal.
@Bigturns33 Thats true, You really have to take in consideration of the players of that time. Michael Jordan is an amazing player but there were other greats playing against him. He average 37 in 1986. So think about it if your going to play with the rules of today, Larry bird, Doctor J, dominique wilkins, moses malone charles barkley truly be untouchable as well. MJ had a 40 point games every 15 to 20 games. But not back to back to back. He had about 7 games that year scoring 40 that year
Ok, so this video explained a couple of things about Jordan's game. 1) He definitely improved his closing ability in traffic from pre 89. 2) His mid range improved dramatically..and 3) how a 40 year old can get open with a 25 year old is guarding him.
@oliverrainman if you get hit without a foul being called... it' s more than defense in basketball. it's like 'offense is the best defense' in a martial-arts sense. you a kobetard too? let me guess.
Michael Jordas was great, probably the greatest. And I'd love to see some of these current teams go up against the Pistons and Celtics when they were on top. Jordan hardly never missed a game and he was beat up every night. MJ is the best to ever play the game, and there were some greats. The thing is that when they double and triple team your 3 pt shooters are open and the BUlls had good ones. Good for the bulls if they focus on him so much.

@brian05fubu I know. Look at the difference in mj's era everyone just plays through it like your supposed to. Nowadays all the players bitch and moan about every little foul when they should suck it up and play through it. Oh he hit my wrist ooh ref he fouled me oh ref wow no foul? ohohohohoh...STFU AND PLAY BALL LITTLE GIRL AND STOP TRYING TO DRAW CHEAP FOULS. The refs aren't stupid and they'll know if your intentionally trying to draw a foul and flop and sissy shit like that pisses them off.
@TheNegrodamus89 watch it yourself. the point is you have no proof they're 100% stupid all the time. what are you genius??? why are you not in the NBa as a consultant or something . DUMBASS!!
@batoattack you look really pathetic dude. name calling, saying you can beat up nba stars, replying to comments that weren't directed toward you. your profile says that your 35. im gonna go out on a limb; do you live in a basement?
That's why Kobe could never match with MJ...KB is not that good at breakthrough the heavy defense and most of his high score games are against weak defense teams...
If MJ had Shaq, MJ would be overshadowed by Shaq. Shaq lead the league in field goal percentage and field goals attempted. MJ wouldn't have been able to score as much because Shaq would always be the #1 and most efficient option. Also, if prime SHaq were to be put in MJ's era, Shaq would dominate with his strength and size. Remember the NBA changed the rule by allowing zone defense and the defensive 3 sec rule because of Shaq's dominance. MJ would have a career very much like Kobe.
@sp00kyfrank do u even have the slightest knowledge on what u are saying??? "if u put shaq in MJ's era"??? LOL shaq played in MJ's era u numbnut! he entered the NBA in 92' and that was just MJ and the bulls' second championship. shaq dominated alright but he never won shit even when he kept crashing the backboards and his ass got humiliated by hakeem the dream in the 95' finals. if MJ and shaq played together... shaq will be robin! LOL
Jordan mostly faced defenders who were shorter than him. For ex, Joe Dumars(6"3) the guard defending Jordan in this vid was supposedly the best defender of the era. Comparing this Defense to Celtic's defense on Kobe, Kobe faced bigger defenders(Tony Allen, Ray Allen, Pierce(maybe) Not only that, but he had to go against KG and Perkins whom i would rather have than the backcourt the Pistons have in this video. Not to mention Rondo's quick feet and hands.
@mrmacross Dwade is 6'5 and top 3 in the league, and regardless Dwade would do a much better job on Jordan than Joe Dumars ever did. Dwade is faster stronger more powerful and athletic. And UHHH... do you watch basketball, Kobe went up against Young Artest, Shane Battier, Deshaun Stevenson, Andre Kirelinko, Raja Bell, T-mac(before injury), Bruce Bowen, Gilbert Arenas(before he fell apart) Josh Howard(when he was good at D on the Mavs), Lebron, list goes on all while under double teams
@sp00kyfrank Did you watch hoops in the 80's and 90's? Jordan had to go up against all-time great defenders like Joe D, but also Michael Cooper, Dennis Johnson, and Dennis Rodman. He also had to go up against guys like Stacey Augmon, Bryon Russel, Gary Payton, Steve Smith, Dan Majerle, Reggie Lewis, Clyde Drexler, Gerald Wilkins, Reggie Miller, Ron Harper, Sprewell, Nick Anderson, etc.
Your assertion that all the wing defenders Jordan faced were either small or unathletic is unfounded.
@mrmacross J.Dumars was 6'3 and Jordan was much bigger and athletic than everyone he went up against. C. Drexler hadshitty defense on MJ cs he was too slow. The players you named Kobe has already went up against and dominated. i grew up watching ball in 80's n 90's perimter players have gotten much bigger and athletic. i would take Lebron Dwade KD(6'10 SG/SF!?) T.Allen R.Allen Artest Battier Bell J.Howard(before injury) Sean Marion etc etc over the players you named. Jordan was ahead of his era
@sp00kyfrank but what about the hand checking rule? That is in affect in this era of basketball. the NBA back in jordans era was much more physical than it is today and you can't deny that. Any little touch in this era and its a foul. As you see in this video most of those calls today would be technical fouls or even ejections in today's game. Michael had to start lifting weights and get bigger sou he could take all this punishment night in and night out.
@sp00kyfrank the reason MJ was able to get past the pistons and other NBA teams with their physicality was the triangle offense because the system before it was 100% MJ and not a complete team offense that involved everybody. If you took lebron n all them and put them in MJ's era they would be better on defense, but MJ would still find a way to get past them. Vice versa if took MJ and was in today's game he would blow by these guys because you couldn't be physical or it would be a foul
Joe Dumars was one of the best one-on-one defenders the NBA's EVER seen and was one of the best straight up defenders against MJ, a point that Jordan HIMSELF made numerous times during and after his career. Dumars said that if he was to play against Jordan with today's defensive rules in place, that it would be virtually IMPOSSIBLE to stop him!
@sp00kyfrank So IYO height means better defense? Payton did a good job defending MJ but he's only 6'4. Most players that MJ went up against were similar in height compare to those u named, Penny, Hill, Wilkins, Drexler, Smith, Sprewell, Rice, Magic, Miller, so i duno wth r u talking abt? Celtics defense in 08 was not as tough as bad boys, Celtics wont grab KB's feet when he drives into the paint / make dirty fouls intended to provoke opponents
@sp00kyfrank if you watch basketball at all, you'd would know that you can handcheck during Jordan's prime years to stop him, yet nobody was able to. Kobe wouldn't be half as effective driving to the basket if handchecking was allowed in the game today.
@MiburoK uhhh Kobe played when handchecking was still allowed during his earliest years, and young kobe still had some monstrous games and monstrous dunks playing under the same rules as MJ when he was fresh out of high school. Do YOU watch any basketball?
@sp00kyfrank moron this was in the late 80's or early 90's.. the point is... you don't have flagrant fouls like when your bitch kobe played in the last episode of the Jordan saga. You kobe Morons should have known.. Jordan played from 1984 to 1998. So stop trying to generalize things.
@TheNegrodamus89 yeah and you riding his dick. can't even beat childs much smaller than him. the issue is not with me but your gay fucking idiot baller...
@TheNegrodamus89 kobe is soft... i'm gonna kick his balls first like childs kicking his ass with a 1 -2 punch... ';that is, if the guy has balls. rotfl...
@batoattack 1st of all, chris childs hit him twice in the face and didn't even knock him down, kobe ate those punches. then he ran away like a punk once the diesel stepped in, but thats another story. anyway, telling me through youtube comments that "kobe is soft" makes you look soft. anyone can say anything on the internet but i would bet my house that if you ever saw kobe in person you wouldn't say shit. btw you might wanna go take a shower cuz i can smell the bitch in you.

@TheNegrodamus89 hey ignoramus .. i mean negrodamus... hell, i did called him fagged , pathetic waste and he just smiled. what now biatch.. you take a shower coz you smell like vag!na.. of kobe's bitch rotfl
@mrmacross Compare this Piston's team and the PIston's team Kobe went up against notice how much bigger stronger lankier they were compared to the Bad Boys. Look at 08-09 defnese compared to this defense displayed in this video.
@sp00kyfrank Then what about Mutumbo, Mourning, Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, Dougherty, Kevein Willis, Shawn Kemp, Oakly, Horace, Grant, Dennis Rodman, Theo Ratliff that MJ has to went up agianst when he drives into the paint? U just raised a good point, Cs in the 00s are really shitty compare to that of the 90s. Even KG and Howard, the size of PF in the 90s, have to play Cs in the 00s because the league really lacks talented Cs.
this is what I like to see no pussy basketball here, this is alot of contact and shows how great the tactics of the defence are and how amazing jordan's offence is!!
@jp3813 wow if you replace lonely with Shaq, the Bulls would have 75 wins I guess. And Pip would be average like 15 points....because 2 leaders want the ball too often.
@jimmychuang You can take out Pippen and they'd still dominate. MJ and Shaq's assists would also go up. Each one capable of drawing defenses and feeding each other the ball. Whoever's more open gets the points. MJ played PG for a few months in his career and his assists went up considerably. With Shaq, he'd average double-digits in assists.
@jp3813 yes, and the fact that rodman (who wasn't much of an offensive threat) was the best big man jordan ever played with just shows how difficult of a load he had to carry.
Cant wait to watch this video (computers taking forever to load). All I want to say is what everyone else knows: Basketball in the 80's and 90's...that's the last great decades the NBA will ever see. The league has gotten so soft..flops are FAR TOO COMMON..and players just don't have the same tough attitude that I used to see in players back then.
The Bad Boys were scary. They were great at D, but they hurt you too. Some flat out dirty hits on MJ. Then came New York. They just clobbered you. Just imagine many years getting through those teams. That shit'll wear you out. Not just them. There was Miami and Indiana as well.
This was before illegal defense too where you had to be arms length with the man you're guarding. You can't even compare today's players with the stuff Jordan had to go through, and Jordan STILL averaged 32pts, 8reb, 8ast with this lol...the GOAT no question.
@Marceles45 No, the illegal defense rules were the same they had always been. There never was any rule that said you had to be at "arm's length with the man you're guarding." I'm not sure where you got that. There always were certain zones that a player had to stay in when defending his man. For example, if a player was out at the three-point line, the man defending him could not drop below the foul line.
One more correction. Jordan averaged 8 RPG and 8 APG in only one season: 1988-89.
@SpydaMonster you are right man....Pistons made Jordan work, Jordan admitted that the Pistons, especially Joe Dumars made him a better player....Kobe did play against great Defense though in 2004 finals vs my pistons and failed....That Defense did last long because Phil jackson Bitched about how the pistons were hand checking...FUCK FACE! now there is no defense in the league because the NBA changed the rules after that
@ThePistons4life the 08 and 10 celtics had pretty strong defenses too. kobe failed in 08, but succeeded in 10. lebron failed both times. but you're right, the celtics and pistons are the only 2 instances i've seen of old school defense since the 90s.
@Kevinsuperior13 yes, the 08 celtics, 04 pistons, and duncan's spurs were the strongest defenses kobe faced, but he rarely succeeded against them. jordan faced stronger defenses on a regular basis since hand-checking and defensive 3 seconds weren't against the rules yet. and he succeeded for the most part in that era. that's why jordan is better than kobe.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex yes, and teams like the 04 pistons and duncan's spurs also had great defenses. but the defensive rules of today's era give too much freedom to the scorers. not only did jordan face physical defenses on a regular basis, he put up better stats than kobe and lebron while doing so.
@SpydaMonster I know what you mean but you have to give James and Kobe credit that's the problem with a lot of Jordan fans they don't give credit to other great players or even say well (insert player here is good but he is no Jordan) We all know that just give other great players credit. James and Kobe may not be Jordan but they''re great players in their own right. You should be able to accept that.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex I think MJ fans don't have a problem w/ giving other great players credit as long as their fans don't try to claim that they're better than MJ. I'm an MJ fan, but also a Bird and Magic fan. But whenever there's a Jordan vs Bird & Magic debate, it's only natural for me to say something negative about the latter two b/c the other person is trying to discredit the former. Besides, Lebron and Kobe fans also try to discredit other great players.
@jp3813 I don't know about Kobe fans but Lebron fans do but like I said a lot of Jordan fans I am not including you I am a Jordan fan myself like to discredit other players and a lot of Jordan fans are scared when there's a player who has the potential to overshadow him and they try to discredit that player in anyway possible I am talking about Bruce Blitz do you know him the guy that blocks people who disagrees with his comments
@cod4modernwarfare2ex There's a TON of Kobe fans out there who live only to declare that Kobe is far better than anyone else in the history of the league. Declaring claims that MJ, Bird, & Magic would be reduced to being mere role players if they played today. MJ fans discrediting players like Kobe is actually a response to Kobe fans declaring that he is better than MJ w/o proper facts, therefore discrediting MJ. As for Bruce Blitz, he actually ranks Kobe as one of his top 20 players ever.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex Think about it this way: you agree that MJ is the greatest, right? Now, if I'm a Kobe fan yet I acknowledge the fact that MJ is better, you wouldn't say anything. But if I said something like "Kobe is a way better player b/c his career high is 81 points while MJ's is only 69", as an MJ fan it's only natural for you to say something like "Kobe did it against the Raptors though, while MJ scored 69 and had 18 rebounds against a playoff team".
@jp3813 I am a Kobe fan but I do say MJ is better and I agree a lot of Kobe fans things his GOAT I am not one of them but you have to think of the Jordan fans to who discredit a lot of players or don't admit they're a great player just because that player has the potential to overshadow Jordan and about Bruce Blitz he only sees what he wants to see to , he says Kobe missed more than made his shots , how the hell does he expect Kobe to make more shots when his shooting finger is jammed.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex Again, please try to understand this time that "Jordan fans who discredit a lot of players" are merely retaliating to those who're trying to discredit MJ b/c they believe that a particular player is better than him. Hence, people like Bruce Blitz are only speaking the truth. For example, he pointed out that Kobe misses more. That's true of ANY season that Kobe has ever played, jammed finger or not. But he pointed that out b/c certain fans think he's a better scorer than MJ.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex It ain't about opinion, it's about the truth. Most people who deny the facts tend to only troll him. For example, you just claimed that the reason Kobe doesn't make more shots than misses is b/c of a jammed finger. As I just stated, that claim is completely false given that Kobe has never averaged at least 50% shooting in his entire career regardless of the condition of his finger. You may not intend to troll but statements like that tend to deny the truth.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex i know they're great in their own right, i just hate it when fake fans go too far and say they're better than mj, or say mj wasn't great at all because people like that obviously know nothing about the game.
@SpydaMonster me too I know no one would be better than Jordan but I am not worried if 1 player would overshadow him that's the problem with a lot of MJ fans , I am a Jordan fan too but a lot of Jordan fans are scared that a player would overshadow MJ and they would discredit that player in any way possible to discredit that player, I am talking about Bruce Blitz if you know him
@cod4modernwarfare2ex But again, MJ fans such as Bruce Blitz are only responding to other fans who claim that a certain player is better than MJ. The problem is you're only looking at one side of the argument and totally ignoring the other. In fact, you acknowledged that Lebron fans tend to discredit MJ. That's correct; and many Kobe, Wade, Bird, Magic, etc... fans are no exception. Which is why the retaliation exists. Read my two previous replies and consider the scenario I described.
@cod4modernwarfare2ex i hope you didn't misunderstand my first comment, it was not meant a diss to kobe or lebron. i just want people to understand that the defensive rules of the past and present are played by 2 different sets of rules. i also want them to imagine how difficult the game would be for kobe or lebron if they had to play against the rough defenses of the 90s. and vice-versa, how much easier the game would be for jordan if he played against today's D.
@holypoop88 how does that make sence at all? If fouls r called that slows the games pace down not the other way around lol..now days defence is waay better considering the players r stronger faster bigger u name it overall jus better...ur comin up with conspiricy theorys on why rules were changed lol..hand checkin was abolished cause its cheap and doesn't go along with the true definition of how defence was meant to be played..with ur feet and chest and hands only to block or steal
Kobe's my favorite player of all time, but I'm not stupid enough to say that he is the greatest of all time. Jordan hands down. This vid is a proof of my hes the greatest ever to play the game... Pistons are noted for this defense against him, but other teams such as the Knicks, Supersonics, Pacers, etc have used this defense against him and he still torched them...
This is a very good video. I do think it's interesting, though, that even under the rules of those days, most of the stuff that they did should have ended up in illegal defense calls and fouls. During the championship run, the Bulls figured out several ways to attack this defense. When they did, teams like the Pistons and the Knicks just resorted to hacking, grabbing, punching, holding, elbowing and shoving. I like to play physical basketball, but what went on with those teams was thuggery.
All of this is just basic man to man defense. I'm 13 and my team incorporates the same kind of defense, playing man to man doesn't mean hugging your man. Everyone should be in good position to help on the drive, who ever it is, Micheal Jordan or the bum down the road.
C'mon, we know injury was the inhibiting factor in Kobe's performance this year. He couldn't get his scores past 25 points due to injuries. Unfortunately, his teammates struggled.
One important thing to remember is that today's Players are more versatile, athletic powerful and longer than players Jordan played with.
Kobe is defended by 6'8s who happened to be stars as well.
Once Kobe gets Howard, I believe he can surpass Jordan in both scoring and rings. Kobe is also a great defender.
most star players other than fundamental players such as duncan, love, bynum and maybe a few other playerswould be bench warmers in the 80s and 90s imho. todays game is based more on flash than fundamentals which is rather sad.
TaylorAA23 6 days ago
They would have to change their entire game because the defense was good fundamentally, they collapsed, they helped, they didn't give up and-ones, they recovered and you didn't get baby fouls and you had to earn free throws. You face doubles and triples and the entire team when you come to the lane. But, on the other hand, Jordan, Olajuwon, Ewing, Penny, Clyde, Pippen, Wilkins, Bird, Magic, Sir Charles, Shawn Kemp, Isaiah, Karl Malone, John Stockton, and David Robinson would have a field day now
23TDJ 1 week ago
@Kenny1984 to have survive because you wasn't facing one person you had the whole team. Kobe, Wade and especially Lebron depend on fouls to get points. They would all have to alter their games or they would suck. Just the attitude and the tenacity of the defense back then just frustrate them. But, I think Kobe and Wade could have changed to make an impact, but the way they play now would not work. "Kobe and Lebron would have a field day" I can't believe you said that disrespect..........
23TDJ 1 week ago
@Kenny1984 most of these players don't guard Kobe, most of them suck now, B roy is retired and played Kobe for what 4 or 5 good years, Melo and KD doesn't matchup against Kobe, and the fact that he only faces Wade and Lebron twice throughout the entire year so please shut up with this bull competition. When it comes down to it Kobe, Wade, Lebron face really weak defenses that don't have fundamentals; getting every call possible. I'm a Rose fan but Rose would have to seriously alter his game.....
23TDJ 1 week ago
@Kenny1984 are you serious when did game only depend on athleticism. Lebron and Kobe would struggle. Players didn't play one on one so it didn't matter that it was Isaiah or Dumars because the entire team helped defend him. Again are you serious, people back then had a thing called hustle and fundamentals unlike the garbage defenses now. You don't have to be athletic to be dominant talk to Kevin Love. You sound so stupid. Kobe doesn't face Wade, Tmac, VC, AI, Lebron, Melo, KD, B roy.........
23TDJ 1 week ago
Kenny1984 1 week ago
@sp00kyfrank Defenses suck now because they have soft players who think they athleticism can cover up their lack of fundamentals. I know you didn't mention Lebron James he would suck back then or it would have forced him to be better. It doesn't matter how big or how fast when you got five guys collapsing on you in the lane and beating you around. You needed mental toughness and a jump shot which Lebron has neither. Lebron and Kobe are lucky to have not played throughout the 80's and 90's
23TDJ 1 week ago
@23TDJ "Lebron and Kobe are lucky to have not played throughout the 80's and 90's"
Umm no Lebron and Kobe would have a field day
Back then the defenders lateral speed is pathetic . One step and Lebron would be at the rim. same with Kobe. He would just rise over his defender for a easy jumpshot
Kenny1984 1 week ago
@sp00kyfrank cont. runs a zone now nobody everybody plays man to man today. The 80's and 90's teams played together on defense and knew how to collapse and recover. Players now suck on defense they don't help well, they don't collapse, and they are constantly beat. Kobe played at the end of the 90's when the rules were changed and the three point line was moved closer so no he came just when the league was getting soft. That is some real disrespectful stuff............
23TDJ 1 week ago
@23TDJ
Kenny1984 1 week ago
@sp00kyfrank are you serious no defense of this era will compare to the defense of the 80's and 90's. People like you put way too much stock in height and size and not enough into fundamentals. Btw the guards were shorter but the forwards and centers were taller and bigger. First the zone was illegal in the 80's and 90's but they played a floating zone or trapped and ran double and triples at Jordan and collapsed on anybody coming to the rim. Today you can run a zone, but who actually.........

Jordan lived in an era of 1v1 basktball.
sp00kyfrank 1 month ago
@sp00kyfrank I disagree. The defenses like this one and the early 90's Knicks were just as tough as today's zones. I'm sure if Kobe played in that era, he'd have a tough time going through two, three, maybe even four defenders. Also, there was no defensive 3 second rule, which meant big men could camp out in the paint. There would most likely be a big man waiting for him if he went to the basket.
nreid310 1 month ago

So to summarise my point, KB is a volume scorer not an efficient scorer like MJ, even though he has advantages that MJ didn't have, by playing in a less defensive era.
bolder2009 3 weeks ago 2
@bolder2009 Kobe has more competition
Who was competing with MJ in the perimeter ? Clyde Drexler ?
Kobe have Wade, Tmac, VC, AI, Lebron, Melo, KD, Broy etc. Great perimeter players
defenders back in Jordan era doesn't have the lateral quickness and footwork of today defenders.

This is why you can't compare kobe and Jordan, you can't even play defense the way the pistons played today, that would be a tech today. And so Jordan and Kobe learned two different ways of playing. Even Jordan said you can't go around saying whose the best because its not fair to the times all these guys played in.
DingisMaximus 2 months ago
this is the exact defense Kobe faced vs the celtics... the only difference is that Kobe doesnt have Pippen, paxson, kerr, kukoc, armstrong, harper, etc. to shoot open shots! he has SHANNON BROWN, FARMAR, ARTEST, ODOM, AND FUCKING FISHER HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Kobe's better man, it aint close.

IF they bulls set effective screens every time they played the pistons in the playoffs they would have won, but give all the to the pistons they played great defense. Today, The only time i see this kind of defense is in the playoffs..
gottgaame 3 months ago
It took time the thing is the pistons played great help defense thats really what the jordan rules where all about but ofcourse the physical naturer of it played the role. The thing is, you see multiple times duhmars and the like with hands all over him and thats just the first level. Then you have the second and third help bodying up and he still scoring. Today those all would be fouls. That jordan as phil said would average 43 in todays game.
Bigturns33 2 months ago
@Bigturns33 If you watched the 1998 finals chicago vs utah you would definitely notice a huge difference in play calling and hand checking was one of them. I dont think jordan could consistently score 43 or more points in all 82 games of a season. Basketball has definitely evolved. The NBA is still the best league. Example: even though the fiba league is physical, it does not mean the players in the nba today dont have the potential to play at a high level while being physical
gottgaame 2 months ago
@Bigturns33 You also have to keep in mind that because of the number of fouls being called. Players do foul out quicker today. Jordan would probably foul out before he could reach 50 or 100 points in a game. With these rules and fouls thats are called its just not averaging 40 plus just might not even be possibly. If you watched the 2011 playoffs many players picked up 2 fouls in the first quarter of the game, this takes them out of there comfort zone.
gottgaame 2 months ago
Fallacy one is this. Jordans offensive game would still exist and be the same. In todays game in his prime he would easily average 40 Plus. He averaged 37 in 88 which means he damn near had 40 plus every game. He had strings of 40 plus and 50 plus games then. Jordan next to scottie pippen was the greatest defender so regardless he would still be a great defender either way. Jordan was not a passing lanes steals defender and hes 3rd all time steal.
Bigturns33 2 months ago
@Bigturns33 Thats true, You really have to take in consideration of the players of that time. Michael Jordan is an amazing player but there were other greats playing against him. He average 37 in 1986. So think about it if your going to play with the rules of today, Larry bird, Doctor J, dominique wilkins, moses malone charles barkley truly be untouchable as well. MJ had a 40 point games every 15 to 20 games. But not back to back to back. He had about 7 games that year scoring 40 that year

Not to mention Rondo's quick feet and hands.
sp00kyfrank 6 months ago
@sp00kyfrank And the best defender at the 2 these days Kobe faces is 6'4" Dwyane Wade. What a gigantic shooting guard...
mrmacross 5 months ago
@mrmacross Dwade is 6'5 and top 3 in the league, and regardless Dwade would do a much better job on Jordan than Joe Dumars ever did. Dwade is faster stronger more powerful and athletic. And UHHH... do you watch basketball, Kobe went up against Young Artest, Shane Battier, Deshaun Stevenson, Andre Kirelinko, Raja Bell, T-mac(before injury), Bruce Bowen, Gilbert Arenas(before he fell apart) Josh Howard(when he was good at D on the Mavs), Lebron, list goes on all while under double teams
sp00kyfrank 5 months ago
@sp00kyfrank Did you watch hoops in the 80's and 90's? Jordan had to go up against all-time great defenders like Joe D, but also Michael Cooper, Dennis Johnson, and Dennis Rodman. He also had to go up against guys like Stacey Augmon, Bryon Russel, Gary Payton, Steve Smith, Dan Majerle, Reggie Lewis, Clyde Drexler, Gerald Wilkins, Reggie Miller, Ron Harper, Sprewell, Nick Anderson, etc.
Your assertion that all the wing defenders Jordan faced were either small or unathletic is unfounded.
mrmacross 5 months ago
@mrmacross J.Dumars was 6'3 and Jordan was much bigger and athletic than everyone he went up against. C. Drexler hadshitty defense on MJ cs he was too slow. The players you named Kobe has already went up against and dominated. i grew up watching ball in 80's n 90's perimter players have gotten much bigger and athletic. i would take Lebron Dwade KD(6'10 SG/SF!?) T.Allen R.Allen Artest Battier Bell J.Howard(before injury) Sean Marion etc etc over the players you named. Jordan was ahead of his era
sp00kyfrank 5 months ago
@sp00kyfrank but what about the hand checking rule? That is in affect in this era of basketball. the NBA back in jordans era was much more physical than it is today and you can't deny that. Any little touch in this era and its a foul. As you see in this video most of those calls today would be technical fouls or even ejections in today's game. Michael had to start lifting weights and get bigger sou he could take all this punishment night in and night out.
Netburner23 5 months ago
@sp00kyfrank the reason MJ was able to get past the pistons and other NBA teams with their physicality was the triangle offense because the system before it was 100% MJ and not a complete team offense that involved everybody. If you took lebron n all them and put them in MJ's era they would be better on defense, but MJ would still find a way to get past them. Vice versa if took MJ and was in today's game he would blow by these guys because you couldn't be physical or it would be a foul
Netburner23 5 months ago
@sp00kyfrank
You sir are a deluded fool. Simple as that.
ChaosCat79 5 months ago

If MJ had a big man like Shaq, he would have more freedom on the perimeter.
jp3813 6 months ago 12
@jp3813
If he had Shaq....he'd probably win as many as Russell, if not more...
JeffSoHorny 6 months ago
@JeffSoHorny No question. The only two players in NBA history to win three straight finals MVPs. That's dominance!
jp3813 6 months ago
@jp3813 wow if you replace lonely with Shaq, the Bulls would have 75 wins I guess. And Pip would be average like 15 points....because 2 leaders want the ball too often.
jimmychuang 6 months ago
@jimmychuang You can take out Pippen and they'd still dominate. MJ and Shaq's assists would also go up. Each one capable of drawing defenses and feeding each other the ball. Whoever's more open gets the points. MJ played PG for a few months in his career and his assists went up considerably. With Shaq, he'd average double-digits in assists.
jp3813 6 months ago
@jp3813 yes, and the fact that rodman (who wasn't much of an offensive threat) was the best big man jordan ever played with just shows how difficult of a load he had to carry.

Great video mikester.
whateverthehellz 6 months ago
Cant wait to watch this video (computers taking forever to load). All I want to say is what everyone else knows: Basketball in the 80's and 90's...that's the last great decades the NBA will ever see. The league has gotten so soft..flops are FAR TOO COMMON..and players just don't have the same tough attitude that I used to see in players back then.
whateverthehellz 6 months ago
JORDAN earned every single call he got...and the reason being, he never flopped....
scorpionJB 6 months ago
The Bad Boys were scary. They were great at D, but they hurt you too. Some flat out dirty hits on MJ. Then came New York. They just clobbered you. Just imagine many years getting through those teams. That shit'll wear you out. Not just them. There was Miami and Indiana as well.
uberathlete 6 months ago
@uberathlete and he still earned 6 titles despite the foul play, hard fouls.
jeffdaniel09 6 months ago
in todays NBA you get a tech with those kind of fouls. MJ = G.O.A.T.

LeBron travelled.
Pimpinizing 7 months ago
Imagine if LeBron faces those kinds of defense, he'd be lucky to average 20 points per game.
iamhungey12345 7 months ago
This was before illegal defense too where you had to be arms length with the man you're guarding. You can't even compare today's players with the stuff Jordan had to go through, and Jordan STILL averaged 32pts, 8reb, 8ast with this lol...the GOAT no question.
Marceles45 7 months ago
@Marceles45
Not sure what you're talking about. Now, you can play zone.
TheOtherView 7 months ago
@Marceles45 No, the illegal defense rules were the same they had always been. There never was any rule that said you had to be at "arm's length with the man you're guarding." I'm not sure where you got that. There always were certain zones that a player had to stay in when defending his man. For example, if a player was out at the three-point line, the man defending him could not drop below the foul line.
One more correction. Jordan averaged 8 RPG and 8 APG in only one season: 1988-89.
hakola95 7 months ago
All you NBA wannabe greats don't even dare call yourself the GOAT. That title belongs to MJ, and MJ alone.

It's pathetic and stars today are pussies compared to the 90's and earlier.

@demonx5584
A lots of Kobe's fans nowadays are saying defence is tougher in today's nba than the NBA which jordan played in. How pathetic ..
TRISTON93 7 months ago 2
@SpydaMonster kobe did against 2008 celtics and 2004 pistons zone
just as good defences or better
KR7123 7 months ago
@SpydaMonster It's a different set of rules, though. Remember the rule changes in 2001.
hakola95 7 months ago
@SpydaMonster you are right man....Pistons made Jordan work, Jordan admitted that the Pistons, especially Joe Dumars made him a better player....Kobe did play against great Defense though in 2004 finals vs my pistons and failed....That Defense did last long because Phil jackson Bitched about how the pistons were hand checking...FUCK FACE! now there is no defense in the league because the NBA changed the rules after that
ThePistons4life 6 months ago
@ThePistons4life the 08 and 10 celtics had pretty strong defenses too. kobe failed in 08, but succeeded in 10. lebron failed both times. but you're right, the celtics and pistons are the only 2 instances i've seen of old school defense since the 90s.
SpydaMonster 6 months ago
@SpydaMonster
wat about 2004 pistons
hitokiriheero 6 months ago
@SpydaMonster He shot like shit in 2010 actually, he's really only had 1 good finals series, and that was against the Nets
Jthree47693 6 months ago
@Jthree47693 i agree.
SpydaMonster 6 months ago
@SpydaMonster Kobe did, he played the 08 celtics.
Kevinsuperior13 6 months ago
@Kevinsuperior13 yes, the 08 celtics, 04 pistons, and duncan's spurs were the strongest defenses kobe faced, but he rarely succeeded against them. jordan faced stronger defenses on a regular basis since hand-checking and defensive 3 seconds weren't against the rules yet. and he succeeded for the most part in that era. that's why jordan is better than kobe.
SpydaMonster 6 months ago
@SpydaMonster they cant because the nba has changed alot since then in favor of the offense so the scoring has gotten easier
NatisCole 5 months ago
@SpydaMonster Kobe played the 2008 Celtics defense who was pretty good
cod4modernwarfare2ex 4 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex yes, and teams like the 04 pistons and duncan's spurs also had great defenses. but the defensive rules of today's era give too much freedom to the scorers. not only did jordan face physical defenses on a regular basis, he put up better stats than kobe and lebron while doing so.
SpydaMonster 4 months ago
@SpydaMonster I know what you mean but you have to give James and Kobe credit that's the problem with a lot of Jordan fans they don't give credit to other great players or even say well (insert player here is good but he is no Jordan) We all know that just give other great players credit. James and Kobe may not be Jordan but they''re great players in their own right. You should be able to accept that.
cod4modernwarfare2ex 4 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex I think MJ fans don't have a problem w/ giving other great players credit as long as their fans don't try to claim that they're better than MJ. I'm an MJ fan, but also a Bird and Magic fan. But whenever there's a Jordan vs Bird & Magic debate, it's only natural for me to say something negative about the latter two b/c the other person is trying to discredit the former. Besides, Lebron and Kobe fans also try to discredit other great players.
jp3813 4 months ago
@jp3813 I don't know about Kobe fans but Lebron fans do but like I said a lot of Jordan fans I am not including you I am a Jordan fan myself like to discredit other players and a lot of Jordan fans are scared when there's a player who has the potential to overshadow him and they try to discredit that player in anyway possible I am talking about Bruce Blitz do you know him the guy that blocks people who disagrees with his comments
cod4modernwarfare2ex 4 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex There's a TON of Kobe fans out there who live only to declare that Kobe is far better than anyone else in the history of the league. Declaring claims that MJ, Bird, & Magic would be reduced to being mere role players if they played today. MJ fans discrediting players like Kobe is actually a response to Kobe fans declaring that he is better than MJ w/o proper facts, therefore discrediting MJ. As for Bruce Blitz, he actually ranks Kobe as one of his top 20 players ever.
jp3813 4 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex Think about it this way: you agree that MJ is the greatest, right? Now, if I'm a Kobe fan yet I acknowledge the fact that MJ is better, you wouldn't say anything. But if I said something like "Kobe is a way better player b/c his career high is 81 points while MJ's is only 69", as an MJ fan it's only natural for you to say something like "Kobe did it against the Raptors though, while MJ scored 69 and had 18 rebounds against a playoff team".
jp3813 4 months ago
@jp3813 I am a Kobe fan but I do say MJ is better and I agree a lot of Kobe fans things his GOAT I am not one of them but you have to think of the Jordan fans to who discredit a lot of players or don't admit they're a great player just because that player has the potential to overshadow Jordan and about Bruce Blitz he only sees what he wants to see to , he says Kobe missed more than made his shots , how the hell does he expect Kobe to make more shots when his shooting finger is jammed.
cod4modernwarfare2ex 3 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex Again, please try to understand this time that "Jordan fans who discredit a lot of players" are merely retaliating to those who're trying to discredit MJ b/c they believe that a particular player is better than him. Hence, people like Bruce Blitz are only speaking the truth. For example, he pointed out that Kobe misses more. That's true of ANY season that Kobe has ever played, jammed finger or not. But he pointed that out b/c certain fans think he's a better scorer than MJ.
jp3813 3 months ago
@jp3813 I don't believe Bruce Blitz respect people's opinion because if you disagree with him he'll block you
cod4modernwarfare2ex 3 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex It ain't about opinion, it's about the truth. Most people who deny the facts tend to only troll him. For example, you just claimed that the reason Kobe doesn't make more shots than misses is b/c of a jammed finger. As I just stated, that claim is completely false given that Kobe has never averaged at least 50% shooting in his entire career regardless of the condition of his finger. You may not intend to troll but statements like that tend to deny the truth.
jp3813 3 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex i know they're great in their own right, i just hate it when fake fans go too far and say they're better than mj, or say mj wasn't great at all because people like that obviously know nothing about the game.
SpydaMonster 4 months ago
@SpydaMonster me too I know no one would be better than Jordan but I am not worried if 1 player would overshadow him that's the problem with a lot of MJ fans , I am a Jordan fan too but a lot of Jordan fans are scared that a player would overshadow MJ and they would discredit that player in any way possible to discredit that player, I am talking about Bruce Blitz if you know him
cod4modernwarfare2ex 4 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex But again, MJ fans such as Bruce Blitz are only responding to other fans who claim that a certain player is better than MJ. The problem is you're only looking at one side of the argument and totally ignoring the other. In fact, you acknowledged that Lebron fans tend to discredit MJ. That's correct; and many Kobe, Wade, Bird, Magic, etc... fans are no exception. Which is why the retaliation exists. Read my two previous replies and consider the scenario I described.
jp3813 3 months ago
@cod4modernwarfare2ex i hope you didn't misunderstand my first comment, it was not meant a diss to kobe or lebron. i just want people to understand that the defensive rules of the past and present are played by 2 different sets of rules. i also want them to imagine how difficult the game would be for kobe or lebron if they had to play against the rough defenses of the 90s. and vice-versa, how much easier the game would be for jordan if he played against today's D.
SpydaMonster 3 months ago
@holypoop88 how does that make sence at all? If fouls r called that slows the games pace down not the other way around lol..now days defence is waay better considering the players r stronger faster bigger u name it overall jus better...ur comin up with conspiricy theorys on why rules were changed lol..hand checkin was abolished cause its cheap and doesn't go along with the true definition of how defence was meant to be played..with ur feet and chest and hands only to block or steal

How is this Jordan rules? This is how play man to man against anyone. What a stupid video. Thanks re-teaching stuff I learned in 4th grade gym class.
MrSinister718 8 months ago
Kobe's my favorite player of all time, but I'm not stupid enough to say that he is the greatest of all time. Jordan hands down. This vid is a proof of my hes the greatest ever to play the game... Pistons are noted for this defense against him, but other teams such as the Knicks, Supersonics, Pacers, etc have used this defense against him and he still torched them...
TheDLite114 8 months ago

WTF ever..I knew U silly ass kobe homers would start with these lame ass excuses...SMH
"He couldn't get his scores past 25 points"
He only avg's 25ppg for his career, so stop it man..
"Kobe is defended by 6'8s"
Like MJ wasn't? They both saw big & small defenders! Explain Jason Kidd this year then!

The fact that he NEEDS a dominant Big ought to tell ya something
