I was living in Mexico in that time and I din't understand the english very well, however I could feel the magic of the music and I had an idea about the lyrics. Years later when I understood this sing I cried so much. This is a song perfect for me. I'm not that old yet but I will be and I already miss that olds that died, the old friends that i left behind and my old life.

  • OMG

  • This song MUST be played at my funeral.

  • Dit liedje is echt zo mooi ♥

  • @cocochanelxable alle 22 thumbs up zijn nederlanders :)

  • When my time comes, bury me with an ipad(and make sure the itune had this very song in its playlists)

  • @themadaboutmusic

I appreciate the "Respect," you've sent my way.

It is always much more of an accomplishing feeling when a person my age can come to friendly terms with someone young enough to be a son or daughter of mine, but it seems you've either been taught, or learned to listen to the thoughts of others, and leaving the anger out of any disagreement you may feel, and perhaps even warmth for those who disagree, as well as agree, my 'friend.'

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @themadaboutmusic

Sorry, but I haven't mastered the technique, or type of communication you've used, meaning I can't define what you sent to me. Please explain.

    Peace.

  • monterock100-With all due respect, has the very obvious completely down, and a downer it is, for me.

It doesn't have to be only 'sadness,' but maybe celebration of not who one may have looked like, but who they were. What they did do when they didn't have to do anything.

When they didn't speak, when silence may have been more supportive.

Maybe, each of our imaginations might come up with a much more, "happy ending."

    We move on.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 i take it ur no teenager, i am, and thts sum wise shyt right there. respect man 1

  • I am old and wise, and for yrs I have said that this is one of the songs I want played at my send off. The words say it all. It is NOT about suicide, it is about the cycle of life as another poster commented, and the older we get the more wise, we look back and see things we could have changed, but we are now wise, and are saying good bye to those we leave behind.

  • I hate the last 1:20 minutes of the song because its so beautiful. It just tears my heart apart. It leaves me empty because it sounds to me like the song is moving away from me, and I am left behind. I just wanted you to know how much I love this song. When you are feeling down, listen to it, and listen to what he sings, 'When Im Old and Wise', go on living and loving with what youve got!

  • Angela you will be in my heart for ever and ever.

  • I was 32 years old and my (then) marriage was falling apart! I heard this song and knew that there's a life after a divorce! This song kept (and keeps) me happy after a real bad time in my life, sop: Goodoh!

  • A dirty canival, anyone else?

  • After they played this song at my gramdma's funural, it became one of my favorite songs!

  • Man, I thought I was the only person left on Earth who had even heard of Alan Parsons...But now I found some other fans, here in the comments! YAAAY!

This is a beautiful song, and even though I hadn't heard it in years I randomly got it stuck in my head one day, and went to look it up. And now I wanna sing to it!!!

  • Simpley the best!

    From Holland.

  • it was on the second place in the dutch 80's top 200 so it's certainly an knwon album in Holland.

  • A beautiful song from a great, yet relatively unknown, album.

  • true and love. 2 things that never can disappear.

  • my grandpa loved this song...

    but now he is dead.....

  • A beautifull song if I die I want my family to play this song. But I hope to get very old (and wise) and I shall listen to this song every day.

  • Now I know y u introduced me to this song! It breaks my heart that u had to leave me so soon. U'll always be in my heart. Till we meet again, I'll pray for u always. May god give me the strength to continue this journey alone. I MISS U! Rest in peace my darling!

  • @ddobb I must understand that your husband has passed away? if so, may he bless you from above

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSynceProductions .. thank you for your kind feelings. Yes it's my husband (may he rest in peace)

  • @ddobb ..sorry..seems I know exactly how you feel. the song is actually more pleasant a reminder than the photos...take care, ddobb :)

  • @ddobb good luck on your journey! :)

  • @ddobb you made me cry. i send you big hugs from argentina

  • @Flyswap Thanks for the ID on the vocalist, I knew he sounded like the guy doing lead on "Tell Her No". Now go look at my comment above. Peace!

  • We all grow old. We do not all grow wise. We hope to gain from the former, the latter. I think that this song embraces both of these sentiments. What a great number. Peace!

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!

  • 11 people not old enough or wise enough to really get this song!!

  • Fantastic!

  • A great song! I really like monterocks interpretation! really nice! right on!

Life is beautiful, wonderful and tragic at the same time!

I was lucky enough to sit down with Alan and interview him at the roswell UFO festival for my tv show ENCHANTMENTS !! He was so cool to hang out with!!!

Great tunes, great memories! Live well my friends, time is short!

  • een van die nummers die ik ooit hoorde, geweldig vond, en toevallig heb gevonden.

  • one more song that when i listen to, i'm about to cry .i hold my tears.

  • ...This song is terribly good before my very ears. Wanna listen to it everytime. I got to hear of this when it has been one of the Soundtracks of a Korean movie entitled 'A Dirty Carnival'. I immediately do search it her in Youtube and have it downloadable in my phone so I could hear it more often. The lyrics also speaks so I better listen. Two thumbs Up from me.

  • The more stuff I find on you tube makes me realize how bad radio REALLY is!

  • @takemeback2 Hey, radio really still isn't bad. You just have to find the right stations, but yes, they are getting harder and harder to find. If you are referring to the lack of good music that we used to find at the turn of the car radio knob during the 60's, 70's, and early '80's, then I will agree with you. And this song was just a small part of it all, but a great tune just the same.

  • @74bshs This town I live in is Chicago. The oldies station here sucks, period.

  • waauw!

  • it's so beautiful

  • the first time I heard this song i knew that this will be my funeral song... it made me cry.

  • Love this song. It's so deep it can be about anything you want. I feel like it's about forgiving people in your life that you left behind. But if it touches you in another way then you are also right. Thank you APP!

  • TIME IS THE BEST OF ALAN PARSON BUT THIS SONG IS ALMOST PERFECT TOO

  • Just Beautiful

  • I really like this song but they should've stopped it at 3:30

the sax ruins it a bit

  • @GermanCustomCars

    Agreed

  • @GermanCustomCars uh...no.

  • @GermanCustomCars not in the nearest bit, the sax is a great add to the song. It continues the song in the exact way it was meant to be: music full of emotion

  • My husband, Hal, died of an asthma attack on his 27th B'day, October 6, 1980. I am STILL in love with him. I am 56, now, and I want this song to carry me to the afterlife.

  • Grandma I love You!

  • For me, also, this song is about having made a difference, having had an impact on someone's life. In all our pursuits we forget that life is really all about each other, about who has touched you and who have you touched. No amount of money can buy that, no amount of stuff can help you obtain it, you have to put yourself out there.

  • @demcdonaldizer

You´re right. I totally agree with you.

  • Colin Blunstone...no equal.

  • Beautiful song. I love the Alan Parsons project.

  • R.I.P. DAD......

  • Will have this played at my funeral.

  • for three years only 306325 views, stupid world. you don't know what you're missing

  • favorite song off eye In the sky

  • good music very cool never stop listening this music

  • A song for suicide? Not for me! This is a song about a person who is looking at the cycle of life and recognizes that a human life is finite. He sees ahead to the end of the cycle. He sees the long shadows. He knows that there will come a time when the final curtain falls...when he's old and wise and he was your friend and you his. And in knowing this there is no burden there is no sadness as he leaves. The cycle of life = birth, growth, attainment, conservation, decay, death. Then...

  • @monterock100 ...Then, a world beyond where none can look back, where one realizes the cycle, ever continues. That this "death" is just a "birth" in a new shell, a dream we wake up from. A dream within a dream, and we realize, that being old is just going back to the original void we came from. We leave with nothing that we didn't come into this world with already....

  • @Seiga - Yes! Exactly! Thank you.

  • @monterock100 well said!

  • @monterock100 I have no better words to describe this song...1000 tumbs up for you

    Lou, Montréal, Canada

  • @monterock100 you are allready wise

  • so peaceful.... what a beautiful song

  • Instead of using this for my link to sadness I have used this to CELEBRATE my daughters 13th birthday and my connection to her as her mentor. Rick Dad

  • @Gothmogism WTF is a suicide song dude, seriously?
