This Ferry, the Spirit of Vancouver Island is not double ended, only the Coastal Class Vessels, and the C Class vessels (Alberni,Cowichan,Coquitlam,Oak Bay and Surrey) There is one end, therefore it must back out, cross into American waters, then go forward to complete its 180 degree turn, to Swartz Bay, Victoria
@FerryDude2009 Interesting, I'm from the state of Washington, and I think all of our ferries double ended. I wonder why some of the BC Ferries aren't double ended. Regardless, the BC Ferries are like cruise ships compared to what we have.
Hello Zoo - Victoria could be turned into a nice city if the poltical people were not catering to the rich. They could have an olympic size outdoor pool with the climate they have. They could create employment by cleaing up the logs and sea weed on the beaches. And, they could construct a sewage treatment plant, and stop shitting in the ocean.
Hello Zoolander - You are right, Toronto is just like a US city, especially with all the imported Jamaican gangs, I couldn't live there. I live outside of Toronto. Last summer I was out in my boat at Wasaga Beach just watching the many hundreds of people in the fresh waters of Georgian Bay, and thinking about when I lived in Victoria, and how there were no beaches for people to enjoy. Anyway, to each his own.
Hi Western - Vancouver is the city of "Needles". The big banks on Hastings street have been turned into distribution centres for needles, and condoms.
I was happy to move away, and get those expensive ferries out of my life. To me the body of water between the island and the mainland was like the Berlin Wall. The cold water and log littered beaches were also depressing. I'm glad I came to Ontario, at least there is some prosperity.
wow you have go to be kidding. Ontario is the most boring plane province out there. I moved from victoria to montreal, and nothing compares ot bc. The ocean is beautiful, how can you not like it, weirdo..
Hi POlakin - There was only one beach in Victoria "Willows", and it was filled with old logs and rawting sea weed. The water was too cold to swim in. Nobody I knew there had meaningful employment, and the politicians were corrupt, like Conrad Black living in Oak Bay. The car theft was incredible, street people everywhere, plus we were all flushing our toilets into the ocean - no filtration plant.
I lasted two years, and came back to Ontario. God bless Wasaga Beach.
it was beautiful anyhow, there were more beaches than that, unless you mean "official beaches". anyways theres parks, forests, mountains etc. yea the sea is cold but theres always boating. I guess its just not for you.
hey Polak - I think part of my escape was due to the fact everyone I met was finding it so hard to exist. The average wage was so low, compared to Ontario, and yet the cost of surviving was higher. I guess we just couldn't stand to see so many people suffering financially day after day.
There is more prosperity in Ontario, at least before this world wide recession.
Pleasure boat runovers have occured due to owners getting into the path of the ferry. If they get in the path and cannot hear the horn, it is their problem!
I like the Spirit Class ships. I think theyre design is pretty nice.

I noticed while I was on this ferry it had to turn around, why is that? Most Ferries I thought are double ended and don't need too.

@wazzuhell ya this ferry is not double ended so they had to turn around so the captain can see where to go.
