  • I like how for many of the harpsichord concertos people say, "based on a concerto for...whatever" which is now lost. Not sure it's certain this is originally an oboe concerto just because Spitta suggested it was.....

  • Um, this is in D major (mostly)? I'm not hearing E flat anywhere...

  • @OneWhiteSeed

    I am not a musician.

On the back cover there is written E flat major

    Reconstructed from BWV 49, 169 and 1053

  • @OneWhiteSeed it's a performance on period instruments in period style. It's not tuned to modern a=440. Baroque pitch would have been somewhere between a-415 and 432. So a modern Eb would sound as a d when played on period instruments, if that makes sense.

  • @kyblueeyes85 Yes, it does! Thanks so much for taking the time to research this!

  • @OneWhiteSeed period tuning half step lower.

  • @OneWhiteSeed That is because this recording is in Baroque 415 Pitch which makes the E-flat sound as D. The Concerto is in E-flat and will sound as such if a modern Oboe is used. I have perfect pitch as well and it can get very tricky.
