I assumed they were discussing the ending to the movie A BOY AND HIS DOG, which was based on a novella by Ellison. The ending is particularly mean-spirited, shocking and (dare I say) strangely heart-warming. I heard no mention of Marly & Me.
@sgmarshall When he mentions "Ax" as opposed to "Ask", I looked it up. "Acsian" the root of this word dates back to Old English usage. So, the Black woman that he cited to might have just been really, REALLY old.
@MrGrevy I pray both of us are kidding, but in case one of us isn't, do not limit your life experience by judgment of a person by speech, regardless of color or background. Would you, say, deny yourself the experience of reading Mark Twain because of presence of dialect?
What is shocking to me is the sadly variant level of literacy in print journalism. These folks are PAID to write and sometimes cannot.
@gilgamess Somehow I doubt putting Mark Twain in the same category as a ghetto negress is valid. And yes, people who speak that way are uneducated dolts. Let's leave the emotion out of it and be realistic.

Everyone is neurotic, everyone is afflicted mentally, and everyone carries some kind of racial judgementalism with them.
I figure people will be saying the same things about my caustic rants for generations. Instead of calling you a pussy for taking Ellison so seriously (like I would have normally), I'll just tell you to get over it.
@bloodyspoon No he is not racist, he berates his own race far worse than others even. He might be considered a misanthrope, and in situations like in the clip, he is just poking innocent fun.
@Teabonesteak I believe they are discussing the film adaptation of the classic kids novel "Marley and Me", starring Jennifer Anniston. He's comparing the book to the movie, which irritates him - the ending especially.
Who is that waste of space he is berating? Disgusting.

Nothing at all racist in what Ellison said.

Some context, please...? :-D Is Ellison really a racist nut, who abuses random fans in the audience just for having a beard and a pretty girlfriend?
bloodyspoon 1 year ago
@bloodyspoon Well he's from an older generation and speaks without thinking...so he's a bit more racist than some and not as racist as others.
The bigger crime is that he uses the same material over and over. We get it, Harlan, you like Judge Judy.

@gilgamess Cute. Don't tell Harlan that. He's likely to get all Judge Judy on you. ;-)

@gilgamess No, the negroes who talk that way are simply uneducated, illiterate wastes of space.

P.S. "Negro" is always capitalized.

@FooFooTheClown "Everyone is neurotic, everyone is afflicted mentally" - Umm what exactly are you basing that on??
