When I put this position in my chess engine and try to play it, as white. I play Qf4 and the comp plays Nd2+ and I play c1 (or a1) and black takes the pawn at b2+. I play king takes pawn at b2 and black play Nc4+. Well, after I get out of check it leaves black with Ne5 blocking the bishop unpinning the pawn at g7. So, my question is; How do you handle this scenario? I can't beat it playing qf4, I'm not as good as you though. It just refuses to play Nc3+ like it should according to the game.
instead of a3, Qf4 at that point would have won, because the next move is the bishop sacrifice with check, followed by mating with queen rook and pawn. what a blunder was a3....
24:15 can Fischer sacrifice the second rook and gain a mating attack, eventually taking the black dark bishop with check, bringing in the light bishop for a mate?
wow loved the "play like geller" stuff...I entered right after watching the video and I only missed one move...I'll try tomorrow again to see how my memory is going...I hope you do sth similar again in the future as it's extremely helpful for beginners like me...thanks a lot KC
Wow that's crazy how engine eval. changes with cxb2. That just shows how deep that rook sac was. That would have been a true masterpiece if Fischer would have played that line.
But hats off to Geller, amazing game. To both players really no wonder it's in Fischers book even if its a loss.
TY for doing this analysis KC, I was not too familiar w/ this game. I've seen an analysis of it before some time ago, not nearly as in depth. This video really shows how good this game really was.
the commentary @ 7:28 gave me a chuckle for some reason. "There's no Black bishops pointing at the white King, but there's "Definitely" two white bishops pointing at Black's King.
Definitely!
great stuff, I enjoy when you go over classic games, especially Fischer's.
I really wish you'dve looked at 17.Rxf6! Houdini comes up with some very interesting and fun lines.

at 23:42 if Fischer sacrifices the 2nd rook, does he now not get a mating attack with the queen and pawn and an open h file?l

The word "checkmate" in chess comes from the Persian phrase "Shah Mat" which means, "the king is dead"
illusion887 2 months ago
@illusion887 That is not quite correct it means the king is helpless or abandoned to his fate , but not dead .
TheOneBlackSheep1973 2 months ago 2
@illusion887 In Australia they have to say check mate and check mate mate to avoid confusion
