It breaks the heart to think of what these innocent children endured during the revolution. Evil always hates decency. Did you know that the family dogs were English Spanials? Anastasia's favorite perfume was Jasmin. My grandmother said Tatiana was the most intelligent one and would have made a terrific ruler of Russia. Lillies of the Valley were the Empress's favorite flowers. Nikolai II gave the Empress a red fire opal ring upon the birth of Alexei. History reports it as a ruby, not so. . .
Lenin and Stalin too were responsible for bloodshed and oppression. Communism left the Russian people with very little freedom. With the fall of the USSR the people have more access to things they didn't before. The Czar and his family are considered saints. Where are the accolades for Lenin and Stalin now? Exactly. In today's world, perhaps Nicholas would have a more broad-minded view of the world than what he was taught. What happened to him and his family was a horrific tragedy.
I really don't understand the hateful comments on this video, which is about the Czar's two eldest daughters. To equate Nicholas II with Hitler is just ridiculous. As with other royal rulers, the Czar was responsible for the conditions of his country, etc. He never wanted to be Czar & his father neglected to train him for it. So he was unprepared for the role. Were atrocities committed? Of course. But let's not wipe away Lenin & Stalin in this.
Originally, they only planned to kill the Tsar and keep the rest of the family as political pawns but the whites were at their doorstep and something had to be done...
@frostycold111: The plan was to put the Romanovs on trial for their crimes, but because the Whites and their bosses were advancing it was necessary to prevent them from falling to those vermin, thereby decapitating them of their leader. The Bolsheviks had one problem, when they announced their intentions everyone volunteers to be the shooter. You can bash them all you want, but the Reds not only smashed the Whites, they chased off their 17 bosses, so it shows where the majority stood.
One of my very favortie You Tube tributes. When people ask way I am drawn to OTMA, I send them this video and then they understand.
Though out, the photos and music are so skillfully used. But even more so at the end, where you were able to make it seem the big pair was looking at us.
What is so important in a tribute video is the layering of images and music to create the desired effect. You do this time and again
It's almost impossible to not tear up watching this. Bravo!!!!
Really dont know why its really a shame they were killed. Those girls were even after revolution very popular on normal people minds. Lenin and its followers madmans and biggest serial murders in world. It so sad those girls have to die so young.
they represented old regime and girls father was weak ruler and very unpopular on common people and he got "nikolai bloody" nick name way he opressed any sight of rebellion.
jackwerner couldn't be more wrong. The Czar was an evil ruler who plunged Russia into chaos. In the early 20th century on Nikolai II' orders his henchmen were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Jewish men, women, and children. They often shot down demonstrators. In the war Russian soldiers were sent into battle half armed and without shoes, and then gunned down by Cossacks if the ran back. The Romanovs were all guilty of this. They were not these little angels as people think.
@hectorbolshevik Tsar Nicholas may have been a terrible Tsar, i agree but the brutal Bolsheviks were far worse. At least Nicky had a heart, the four daughters were all just young girls with soft hearts who were brutally murdered by filthy communists.
@frostycold111: Czar Nikolai II was a brutal tyrant. The Bolsheviks didn't unleash the Black Hundreds with the order to murder Jewish and non-Russian men, women, and children; they didn't send millions of young Russians to die for profit in that rotten war, or gun down workers strikes and antiwar protests. Yeah, what a heart! But they were all "filthy communists", right? By the way, the Czar and Hitler are the idols of Russia's neo-Nazis. I wonder why....
They were killed during the Russian civil war so that the White Russians would have no cause around which to gather. Many people died of starvation and privation during the reign of the Tsar. Do you feel compassion for them as well or only for the privileged daughters of an autocrat who could have saved all their lives had he agreed to the 1905 Duma.
My compassion is not the question and it certainly does not change the reality of what happened. Nicholas II was a silly little man who was completely unaware of what was done in his name because he didn't want to know. Millions of people died, some of them children. So, while you are weeping for his children, I ask: Do you have the same tears for the people who were killed in Nicholas' name and by hi inaction?
Of course I weep for them. I weep for all murdered children who ever they are.
Most are unknown to me. These I know about ...that's the only difference. Do you not see, that most of us are weeping for the many , many unknowns while we weep for these chilren ? Because we are.
"Do you have the same tears for the people who were killed in Nicholas' name and by hi inaction? "
Do you have tears for those millions communist killed after he's rule? Probably not.
Difrence is that Nikolai might have been silly man... but he wasn't evil like Stalin and other communists were. Stalin couldn't say he didn't know millions were killed.
By his inaction, Nicholas added to the privations of his people and created at atmosphere in which a revolution was predictable. Nicholas should have known what was done in his name, he was, after all, an autocratic monarch. Had he been a better leader, the revolution would not have happened and Stalin would never have gained power.
Sorry but "evil" is such a subjective description. For me Stalin was evil, because he didn't value human life. But Nicholas, convinced in his divinity let millions die, and for me that's also evil. His family didn't deserve to die, but he at least should had been put on trial, and hanged.
@MokomaSusi: The difference between the Czar and Stalin are great. The Czar was head of the Russian ruling class, whereas Stalin was just a bureaucrat. Both killed millions, Communists and non-communists. But Stalin at least headed the Soviet state which modernized Russia and turned it into a world power. The Czar turned his country into a disaster, getting involved in WWI, sucking off the populace, sending his militias to kill Jews and other non-Russians. How silly of him!
@hectorbolshevik As much as i support Imperialism and Monarchy, i have to agree that Tsar Nicholas was a terrible monarch and probably didn't deserve to lead Russia. It's also terrible that the Bolsheviks murdered his whole family and killed of the Romonov's...I'm glad they were made Passion Bearers.
@frostycold111: According to Czar Nikolai II he did deserve to lead Russia and do whatever the hell he wanted to people because he believed God had ordained him and he could do no wrong. The Bolsheviks just gave this tyrant his punishment. Did you know the Czar pinned medals on his Black Hundreds and Cossacks after they murdered scores of Jewish children? Maybe the Romanian Orthodox Church will make Ion Antonescu a Passion Bearer if they haven't already.
@hectorbolshevik How on earth can you call the massacre a "punishment", Its was brutal murder. Tsar Nicholas II was probably the worst Tsar in history but we can't forget what a great person he was to his family, friends and even the brutal Bolsheviks at Ipatiev house.
@frostycold111: As I said, the Czar unleashed his militias on striking workers, Jews, and non-Russian peoples, in addition to sending millions of young Russians to die in a war they didn't want. The Bolsheviks punished him. It would be no more brutal if the Bielski Partisans caught Hitler, Goebbels and his family and killed them all. Goebbels was great to his family too. Let's love him for it. What would the bastard have done to the Bolsheviks at the Ipatiev house, send the Okhrana after them?
@Anyacat3 Nicholas abdicated the throne and abdicated in his son's name as well. Daughters are NOT, by progentery rules allowed to sit on the throne, nor are their children. That was why it was so important for Sunny and Nicky to have a son. There was absolutely no reason for the daughters, anyway, to have been murdered. Besides, if the White Russians wanted a rallying point there were enough Romanovs still running around. Lenin knew this, my personal opinion is this was personal.
Oddly, the question was not who abdicated or why, but why the children suffered the same fate as their parents. Russia had two strong women monarchs and although the law was changed after Catherine the Great (by her son), Nicholas certainly could have, if he had the courage, changed the law back placing any of his daughters in line for the succession. Meanwhile, the counter revolutionary forces were denied a rally point when the Tsar and his entire family was killed. Nothing personal in that.
@Anyacat3 I beg to differ, remember it was Lenin's brother Alexander who masterminded the failed plot to assassinate the Tsar in 1886, he was executed for terrorism in 1887. Lenin was just a teenager
@Szheherazad&Anyacat: Lenin, Stalin, and the rest of the Bolshevics were nothing more than street thugs, (bank-rolled by Rothschild), who thought they had a higher, noble purpose to bring "Justice" to the World through Communism. It is my opinion that the excesses of the Czars did not merit the murder of the Imperial family, nor does it justify the millions of "Enemies of the People" murdered by Stalin. The question then becomes "Enemies of which People," the Communinist Party? Both were crimes!
@Anyacat3 As for the succession, Nicholas could change the rules, but that doesn't say the Royal Houses of Europe would have acknowledged the new successor, or even those from his own house. Rules of succession are/were not changed just willy nilly. Notice the current Royal Houses are not throwing open their doors to the current claimant Maria. If Lenin was afraid of the women as rallying points, he should have offed the Dowager, & a few Grand Duchesses who married into other Royal Houses
No one cared when the Russian law was changed to eliminate women from the direct line of succession. I doubt they would have cared if Nicholas changed the law. Which of the two current claimants would you choose? Maria Vladimirovna had HERSELF proclaimed the new Head of the Imperial House. When he died, Nicholas DID NOT change the law of succession. If Lenin could have gotten his hands on the Dowager, he'd have killed her as well.
