  • This band was so much ahead of its time when they played this...! Pioneers of hard rock and later derivatives such as heavy metal, etc.

  • Amazing! I miss this kind of music. The younger bands today don't quite do it like this. Look at the bands at any Ozzfest or similar show and find one that has this much aggression and ability

  • @wolfsblood07 It's not at Ozzfest that you will hear talent. At Ozzfest, you can only hear Ozzy's false notes

  • this should be taught in public schools

  • wtf is Ritchie doing with that guitar? xDD 3:05 - 3:20

  • People say Ritchie Blackmore was a copy cat, but honestly, come on, nobody else that I know of did these kinds of thing with the guitar. Not to that extent or length of time anyway.

  • ritchie blackmores roadie must of had his work cut out for him, having to tune his guitar after songs like this xD

  • @FergieATFC The roadie, if Ritchie hadn't another one every day, had to put the petrol on the amp to set a huge fire at the end :-) Ritchie mostly tuned his guitars himself.

  • i login to say you this guys , this is Deep Purple at his BEST !! I saw this on television 1 week ago after smoked 3 blunts outside got back home frozen and stoned , found this on televison at Monsters Of Rock .. man .. 6 minutes of state of mind fuck !!

  • 0:30 John Paul Jones?!?!?

  • @PetroASR No Is George Best, Footballer

  • @bryemycaz are you joking? the legend GEORGE BEST???

  • Today Ritchie does not play the electric guitar anymore...

    What the fuck?!?!?!!??!

  • the poor fools just don't know what they are witnessing I wouldn't have been quite so constrained, what what..

  • Über-cool

  • I swear, I thought my hair was blowing while watching this performance as if I was driving 100mph in a convertible with the top down. It felt like I was in the audience. Ritchie was friggin shredding and Ian Paice was destroying his drum set! I couldn't keep my eyes of the performance. EPIC band that is so underated and is generally remembered for Smoke on the Water and the Machine Head album, but not for In Rock, Fireball, and their live albums and performances. Still, One of my time 3 bands!

  • man look at blackmores sideburns talk about awesome!

  • LSD in Mandrake root...dangerous but true...

  • Luckily for us, potatoes and tomatoes are harmless. But being in a family that prides itself on killing people when eaten kind of takes one out of their comfort zone doesn't it? But never fear, potatoes are yummy and so are tomatoes. Potion makers use Mandrake all the time in potions. It's a main ingredient in potions, though how much is used in potions is beyond me, probably very little, since sometimes it requires drinking the potion. A very little amount might not hurt, but a lot? R.I.P. :)

  • This is a cool song. A song about getting lit on Mandrake? Hummmm, I know Mandrake is poisonous, I wonder how long you'll last being lit on it and then dying. As I recall, Mandrake and Belladonna are in the Nightshade family, and almost nothing nice ever comes out of that family...except potatoes and tomatoes, which are also of that family...The Solanaceae family. :) Plants can be so interesting.

  • this is a perfect tune for the sahara

  • im laughing im crying my heart is pounding and i have no idea what the fuck just happened. dopest video ever

  • @150rex

Shit man, comments like this are the ones that need to be voted up.

  • @Ifior789 Party on, Garth!

  • This when Jimmy thouht he was Jimi, any fanny can sound like that at 400 watts, the effin' twat.

  • this is cool

  • 5:55 Paraparapututum pa-PSSHH!

    End of story :D

  • WHOA!!

Ritchie Blackmore were so fucking energetic here!

  • look at everbody just sitting there and listening to them. thats how ii like to listen to bands. thats the way it should be

  • Soo...Wheres the actual song??

  • How could this audience keep sitting on their chairs??

  • funky as hell. dig it.

    also 5:22 .......holy SHIT.

  • On drums we have Ugly Betty gettin' the groove......

  • I Just Came!!!

  • you fuck you bich))))

  • i love the drum beat

  • AMEN!

  • John Lord should have practiced some scales - ridiculous

  • george best 0.32 - Ritchie better 0.00 -6.33.

  • I would've asked for my money back..I paid for a band not to watch some jackass jerkoff on stage. Now I know why I never bought the albums

  • @apemanstreetwalker dont know what is real music? FUCKOFF

  • Give Ritchie your brand new start for one gig and afterwards you have a heavy relic stratocaster :D

  • masters of hard rock

  • Cover that.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't think of any contemporary band who would not sound like a cheap casino band if they tried to play this exactly note for note! Like it or not, it used to be about musical chops. No D.J.s computers etc..

  • jimi who?

  • This is Ritchie at like a four.

I've seem him at a ten...and I am now mentally insane.

  • jeezusbloodychrist--- I love love LOVE Ritchie Blackmore!!

I agree with other people's posts here-- Where have all the guitar heroes gone? They were a species apart-- I hope they are not a species extinct!

  • What...energy! :o How long it's been since I've heard something like this...I mean modern metal / rock bands can have all the fancy equipment they want, but where's the passion? This is primitive, basic, exhilarating, sends shivers down my spine...an explosion of pure AWESOME!

Wow...I'm certainly taking this to heart :o I want my life to be full of passion and energy, so why not my music as well! Shell yeah!

  • My God, where are this generations Richie Blackmores, Ian Paices, Ian Gillans and Roger Glovers????

  • My God, where are this generations Richie Blackmores, Ian Paices, Ian Gillans and RogerGlovers????

  • well the disparity anyone complain here about the cold audience n the n monstrous visceral band energy is due to an age pipl were yet trying to understand the whole wonderful thing they were watching ( before this elvis , little richard n beatles were the most kicking thing they saw ! ) n this vid also prove how the real rock hard roll never was so good to unite to tv where yes pipl had to watch steady as they were invited to...

  • this is way fuckin down ma street lol the deep

  • simply magic!

  • yeah space truckin' is amazing the rythm at the begin... deep purple

  • Funny how you dont see stuff like this on telly nowadays.

  • What a stiff audience! Good thing the band wasn't effected!

  • This is vicious ... what a band! Been my fave since the 70's ....

  • Such a lame boring audience... they looked like statues the whole time. How can you show no emotion when you're listening to Deep Purple live!?

  • @flippy9191 Well it appears the band took all the good drugs(especially Ritchie)so the audience actually seems to be subdued when actually they are on the verge of moshing.

  • @greyflap I think those times the only person who was not on drugs was Dalailama... possibly....

  • He is The Master.

    The Best!

  • I think Deep Purple is better than even Justin Bieber! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA! No, but seriously folks...Deep Purple Is the best thing since sex! And that's no joke, man! Deep Purple would tear a new asshole in Metallica! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA! Hell, yeah!!!

  • @jeffreygaudreault You are soooo right.

  • @jeffreygaudreault You're pretty much right about that and I like Metallica. Shuda kept Musdane but.....

  • John thanks , very thanks

  • i love pace

    its a brow

  • Paicey looks a bit like 'ugly betty' in some shots...just a thought

  • Uhm..What happened to Mandrake Root?

  • 2:07 greatest riff!! ooooooh yeaaaaaaah

  • @Shagofull It reminds me of "Wicked World" by Black Sabbath.

  • 2:07 greatest riff!!

  • That guitar is his pride and joy, and he treats it like THAT!

    I fear for his wife...

  • 1:45 look at Ritchie's face.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

  • There were so many great bands around at this time,it must have been the greatest time for heavy rock and music in general

  • green people 0:31

  • This song should have been called "Richie's Mastrubation"

  • wooooow!!!!!

  • Man! I'd pay a dollar to see that!

  • Fantastic. kicks all kinds of ass

  • If J.fru do that performance...you would have him like GOD!!! BUT HE CAN'T!! muahaha :D RICHIE BL. FTW!~

  • How i love the way that Ritchie play the guitar

  • ian gillan is gay

  • @MyJaar he's married to a chick, lol

  • A masterpiece. And the root of Space Truckin' as well.

  • was that george best in the crowd at the start? O_O

  • @jimmydanpage @jimmydanpage At 0:18 ?? No! :P

At 0:32 ? Looks like George best to me!

  • 699130082.451322-5.4

  • such a great song, Ritchie your awesome!

  • I don't get how the body of Ritchie's guitar never seems to hit the ground when he swings it

  • Amazing jamming... Any competitors on MTV?

  • fuckin' blackmore.. AMAZING!

  • he is raping that strat tenderly !!

  • Uh.........HOLY CRAP! No one can play like Mr. Blackmore

  • AMAZING . I Dig Deep when I listen to music , as for Classic's. I have been RE Inventing FIREBALL , FOOLS,NO One Came , The Entire Album Rules. those first to I stated ROCK the HEAVIEST . this is TRULY Brilliant Performance. SKILLS you do NOT SEE today. There is Hardly the Same Quality Musicianship, PAGE,Blackmore, Frank Marino, Robin TROWER, Jimi HENDRIX Steve Hillage , ETC..ANYWAY.... Thanks for a GREAT Sounding TOO, n VID/SONG. the Crowd was Typical though in it on FIRE . the Crowd was COOL.

  • i hope the viewers of that time, now know what they have experienced

  • Wow, George Best in the crowd at 0:32 ! Looking pretty non-plussed about it....

  • there's a string lose at 3:21?

  • @store1992

His cable just got caught on the headstock and it's sort of hanging there. You can see him remove it quickly a little later.

  • this is so crazy..... I LOVE IT !!!!!!

  • fantastic playing..

  • Before Space Truckin'..... There was Mandrake Root...

  • @RushAnthem69 they took the mandrake root on their space truck and ended up at the mule i guess.....

  • Nos anos 70 tirar um som era algo assim... Ah, as pessoas tinham saco e gosto pra se lombrar com tal coisa. Mas não é o que acontece com a platéia em volta, não estão entendendo nada isso é o nascedouro do heavy metal

  • what kind of tv show is this?

mid-aged married woman enjoying her HARD rock with a little bit of jazz...? look to the audience face : "what a hell we're doing here, man??"

  • 0:18

    Is that Mr.T?

  • Blackmore > everything

  • Drums: Joey Ramone

  • @chicherchio hahaha on drums is Ian paice but yes , he looks like joey :D

  • La cantidad de LCD que tenian puesto era increible ajaja

No me gusta cuando tira la guitarra y empieza a hacer cualquier cosa.. pero bue, es deep purple :D

  • the drummer looks like the late Joey Ramone.

  • This is how Space Truckin' jamming has started.

  • This music was so much ahead of its time that the (conservative) crowd seems to have been struck by 'aliens' just dropped down from another planet. And today's musical morons are so much behind the musical scene that ruled the 70s (Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, etc), that the garbage that MTV serves out to the public makes one puke out his guts.

  • @Toottycat

    Uriah Heep. Good Lord.

  • dam!!!!!!!!!

at 3:00 the devil takes over!!!!!

  • Fuck Pete Townshend & Keith Richards

  • Geniali!!!!!!!!!!

  • People in a hall yet don't know what waits for them in one year - The Greatest hard rock band - Deep Purple!))

  • ritchie ftw

  • hory shit

  • The audience is just doing what all audiences did those days. Headbanging hadn't been invented yet and many concerts still had full seating.

  • fuck Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck

  • @SexyYfronts dam you!!!! how dare you!!??

  • That would be a conductor not a composer.. doof.

  • in my opinion.. Ritchie = best guitarist of all time!

  • @store1992 Ha! He`s playing isn`t worth a shit, he`s just an over rated diva with limited knowledge to music, nothing else.

  • @store1992 thats true

  • @store1992 one of the best..

  • I would have liked to see this on Made In Japan, along with Wring That Neck, Speed King, No No No and Black Night. But, it's still a great album.

  • ritchie blackmore really knows how to masturbate with his guitar,i mean its pure Legend

  • Fuck Hendrix

  • @SexyYfronts ritchie blackmore is a good guitarist one of the best but dont diss hendrix...he mad sound that they used then and probably now

  • @SexyYfronts why, fuck Hendrix.

Blackmore was slightly influenced by Hendrix.

Blackmore was also in an awesome band like Deep Purple.

Hendix went through bands and sessionists, and had no body to back him up like Dp would have.

  • @SexyYfronts fuck you!

  • @rocker70sman fuck you you faggetty yank douche cock

  • like it

  • fucking unreal

  • Blackmore's doin some random shit and everyone's like fuck yeah. I'm gonna do this live once and see what the reactions are like. My favorite part is at 5:21 and not only does he play it once but twice and that's when i'm like fuck yeah!

  • wtf man this is unreal

  • Cool band-so good

  • AC30's will take over the world

as you can see one behind ian (paice) every so often making sure its plans are going tinto fruition

  • I just can´t believe that audience... apparently they were told they would attend The Carpenters or The Osmonds... instead they've got Deep Purple, oh my! Sure they've got some degree of disappointed, he he

  • Mostly 16 -18 year olds here watching. Dont think the youngsters where ready for Deep Purple then. Band was in its prime and rocking hard, I was 11 then when i got into the band..

What did they expect Cliff Richard or The Beatles.

  • Do you notice how Ritchie Blackmore signals the other band members Hes a composer :P

  • @Ledzep69Man They all were composers. You meant to say conductor? Yes, he is!

  • @Ledzep69Man he's a tyrant. I think he's amazing and he's one of my favorite musicians and one of the greatest guitarists/composers ever. But he has to control everything and everyone.

  • @Ledzep69Man Nah, the others knew very well when and what to play, he's just egocentrical. Not that he's not a brilliant musician though.

  • @Sycsa You are so right ! Blackbore....eh Blackmore is one of the best rockgitarists ever! he is great on the album Live in Japan, but elswhere there is no footage of Deep Purple live where he makes his come-uppings true. Egocentrical, crazy, maybe genius, but never a team-player.Many times you can tell by the look in de eyes of Gillian and the others....greetings from Antwerp

  • @begijnenstraat sorry, it's Gillan

  • @Ledzep69Man I think you mean conductor. He is technically a composer too because he writes most of the stuff, including this song

  • @57250tr Ritchie Blackmore a true Maestro :-)

  • Deep Purple is great I just love those jams in between the songs each one is always different.

  • anyone else want to punch the crowd in the face?

  • @MrBarackObonga me xd

guess lot of people noticed that too

  • George Best at 0:32 ?? The crowd must be stone deaf ! Purple at their best.

  • @fender44 It's totally Best! Man, that is so cool.

  • this sucks for anyone in the studio that want stoned, the crowd

  • sucks and the people know it

  • that crowd is lame

  • Which one is Jeff Beck?

  • Jon Lord looks like my Uncle Mike!

  • ritchie is showing off here!

  • I am simply amazed! Flat out kick ass! This is one of the best bands ever! ROCK ON!

  • Listen to Glover as well.....that Bass sound....So great

Richie is my guitar mentor....don't ignore Piace either....

  • @SuperEasyliving Uhh what about Jon Lord??? One of THEE greatest on a set of KEYS! He is right up there with Ray Manzarek (Sorry if I miss spelled his name but you know who I mean) But yeah look at him slap those keys in the intro! I ain't ever seen anyone do that! Plus thats what I LOVE about Deep Purple, even though Ritchie is obv there leader and main man EVERYONE contributed in there own way!

  • ritchie was probably the fastest guitar player of the time i mean that little sweep picking solo he plays is like yngwie malmsteen but years before him ritchie was a guitar legend its just a shame hes lost his marbles and got into folk music a waste of a great rock player

  • It seems Google doens't care for YT.

Now you!, leftists, feel the LAG!

  • why does the audience look so bored? This is awesome!

  • It's 1970 and they are way stoned of course!

  • @SLASHdaROCKER Because it was recorded... They were not aloud to make much noice ore big moves :P Great performance!

  • @SLASHdaROCKER heavy metal was basically brand new. they thought it was just random noise lol. so they were bored and wondering what was going on hahaha

  • @SLASHdaROCKER That was how Euro audiences were at pretty much all rock concerts till bout the mid 70's.

  • @MusicVideoJudge1 Absolute Twaddle! This is just a studio gig filmed for a tv show, the kids in the audience were probably told to sit and behave, or they'd be thrown out!

How many 'rock concerts' did you attend in Europe in the early 70's?

  • @SLASHdaROCKER I would sell my house, both kidneys and whatever it takes to see this show live, and they look like they hardly wait for this to finish so they can go home and listen to Beatles! Poor bastard! : D

  • @SLASHdaROCKER those were the timses...

they had no dope yet hose poors

    ;-p
