Why do many versions of 'Joy to th World" skip the 3rd verse?

You know, the chorus is absolutely heartwrenching. It seems as though Chris took the joy that Christ gives through His Spirit and literally turned it into a melody (or at least as much as God would let him). That being said, I really don't have a taste for the rest of the song. The lyrics are brilliant, but after so many years, it definitely loses its luster.
