I have 2 diabetic cats; the only reason they are still alive is that I do regular glucose testing every day. They adjust and get used to it the same as people. and I concur, you must do this to save your furbaby.

My dog gets 3 units of NPH daily. Just like with a human, it would be insane to give insulin without taking a blood sugar. I do a weekly glucose curve on my dog to make sure his dose is correct and that he is staying within a normal sugar level. If youre not taking your dogs blood sugar, or letting the vet do it at regular intervals, you're killing your dog. Learn it, know it, do it.

My dog is diabetic and I would not recommend this method when preforming a blood glucose level. Please talk to YOUR vet before performing a test such as this.

@thestringsthatjoinus why dont you reccommend this method? i recently found out that my dog is Diabetic but i dont have the means to test his sugar at the vet. my vet wants the test to be ran everyother day and its $65 a day. thats can add up pretty quick! is there another method you know of to test sugars at home?
