I hated this movie.. In someway they manage to turn their little 3 month courting into her main inspiration for, not just the male characters or plots, but also the inventor of her writing style. Honestly I don't mind Jane being portrayed having a little romance with someone but they litterally make it seem like he told her how to be a better writer, not just inspired her, but told her. What I like about Jane was that she was indepentent, she did not need a man and this movie make her seem weak

Anne Hathaway is wonderful, but she was so miscast. Jane Austen was little and plain not statuesque and stunning. Kirsten Dunst, although still too pretty, would have been a much better fit.

@XxShuushiixX She was a writer (a great one) this movie is about a part of her life, during which she wrote Pride and Prejudice quite based on her own experience. If you watch this movie and then watche or read Pride and Prejudice you will find some similar things !

@juliakitty13 I think that they mostly based the movie on some texts written by jane about her life. In fact, she wrote many other texts with her sisters and her brother so they may have find inspiration in it !

I think Anne Hathaway did a good job with the moods and emotions of her character and with what she brought to the movie. However, the ONE thing I wasn't crazy about was that her mannerisms just don't really fit with the character or the time period, in my opinion. That's really hard to change in a person, though.

have you seen the movie? if not, than you shouldnt be saying that someone else should have played jane austen. she was brilliant and when you so see it you can see that she has put research and effort into playing her character! so dont guess, hathaway did an amazing job. it was a great movie!

@lashleyfanlesley I agree! I love anne hathaway but she should have been played by someone else. Probably an actually British actress. For some reason Anne Hathay stuck out like a sore thumb, like she didn't fit that time period. The other actors and actresses fit it well but she didn't, probly because she's American. The movie wasn't bad, just ok I was dissappointed. I love the trailer more than the movie! Some may hate me for saying this but McCavoy was annoying in this movie. If
