  • I definetely love this.

  • aaah i love it and the wonderful horses there (:

and also the wonderful song (:

    kveðjur from Germany (:

  • Great Song, love it!

    greetings from Switzerland :)

  • its amazing how simillar icelandic and faroese are, i can understand everything in this song

  • @berserkur19 No wonder. Icelandic is almost Old Norse, and Faroese is second next to Old Norse among the living languages.

  • Hey, hör mal ein Lied von den eigentlichen Singersongwriter aus Island von den M5

    auf Englisch heisst es "Highlandriders"

  • @ChilliconLove Ich suchte nach diesem Lied highlandtours Reiter auf YouTube. Ich fand es nicht. Sie mir aber schön das zu hören.

  • I want to learn this language, its beautiful

I listen to it and i think I understand, but I dont XD Its very similar to swedish in some words, but I honestly don't understand a thing

  • "Rökkrið er að *síga* á Herðubreið..."

  • @ragnaice haha já alveg rétt! Textinn er í rauninni bara copy/paste af einhverri lagatextasíðu ;) þessi setning gengur ekki alveg upp þegar maður spáir í það úr myndbandinu, en það er auðvelt að yfirsjást svona þegar textinn er úr gömlu íslensku máli, talmátinn var allt annar þannig maður fattar ekki eins vel ef það er um orðavillur að ræða. En takk fyrir að benda á þetta :)

  • Isländska är så jädra....konstigt! Men kraftfullt på någe vis.:)

  • Oh my favourite song!

    Iceland, the best!!!!!!!!

  • The song's great, of course. But the music in this particular version manages to totally butcher it and take the beauty out of it. x.x

  • класс!!!!!

так настроение поднимает. Уважеха ребятам :)

  • @raido1979 Да уж :) Главное, песня-то на самом деле страшненькая, про человека, которого темнота застала в пустыне, где масса всякой нечисти, и он бы отдал лучшего коня, лишь бы поскорее оказаться в ближайшем населённом пункте - в Кидагиле. Но все об этом забыли и не замечают :)

  • Damn, I love the sound of your language!

  • Would any of you happen to know were I can buy the Vocal sheet music for this song?

  • I <3 This Song !

  • Silverbiscuit, you did quite well. A couple of corrections:

"Here at large is many malignant spirit

Since the shadow is falling on the glacier."

"May the Lord lead my horse" (Request, not a certainity)

Also, the text doesn't specify a "work horse" but his "best (vænsta) horse."

Other than that - really well done!

  • Thanks very much for correcting me, I never know whether I've got something quite right. But the 3rd line is still confusing me. I thought 'margur' was 'many', as you said, but then 'andi' was in the singular form and so was the verb 'vera', so I supposed 'margur' had a secondary use as an intensifying adjective, and just put 'very'. How can there be many of only one thing?

  • The plural adjective (margur) and the singular noun(andi) is in this case comparable to the english usage of "many a (singular noun)". For example: "Many a spirit roams here," etc. It's a mostly literary usage.

  • I put 'workhorse' because that's what my dictionary said for 'klár', but yeah, I did miss that 'vænn' was in the superlative form (best, not good).

The word 'því' confuses the hell out of me, so I'm never very good at sentences with it in. It seems to have so many different uses. Now I think about it, I suppose it couldn't be 'it', because andi is masculine and also that form of it is not in the nominative case. Has anyone ever told you your language is beautiful, but very confusing?

  • "Því" has many different uses. For example:

Út af Því að = Because

    Af Því að= Because

Því um líkt= Something similar to that

    Því ekki= Why not

But in the icelandic language the word Því is most commonly used as the word Because :)

    I hope that helpes you

  • @silverbiscuit

maybe it's confusing because of the culture/history. have you ever tried to interpret a runic inscription in ON? it's practically impossible haha

  • Jökulsvell (its iced montain) the lord lead my horse , the big destination will be my last , the lord leads my horse, the big destination will be my last destination, shh shh shh ,sound of the (some icelandic female fox) (what ver you call it) in the hillock , dried she wants blooded wet sth, or someone whas calling them back (hóa is like calling horses , cows or sheeps back from the montain), strange thick man voice ,camping people in Ódáðahraun ,are mabey round up the sheeps in secret

  • here is what i think : riding riding going over the sand, the sun runes back of the Arnarfell(its montain) , here on this area is many dirty spitits, out of that goes darking at Jökulsvell (its iced montain) the lord lead my horse , the big destination will be my last , the lord leads my horse, the big destination will be my last destination, shh shh shh ,sound of the (some icelandic female fox) (what ver you call it) in the hillock , dried she wants blooded wet sth, or someone whas calling ..

  • Hello!

Is there any English translation for this song available? Or at least, can somebody tell approximately, what it is about?

    Thx.

    BM from Hungary

  • Here is my very amateur attempt at a translation:

We ride, we ride, we drive over the sand,

The sun slips behind Arnarfell (Eagle's Mountain)

Here at large is a very dirty spirit

Out it goes casting shadows on the glacier.

    The Lord leads my horse,

Far will be the rest of the journey.

    The Lord leads my horse,

Far will be the rest of the journey.

  • Shh! Shh! Shh! Shh! The vixen sang in the wood,

She wants blood to wet her dry mouth,

    Or someone was also calling,

    A strangely thick male voice,

    Outlaws in Óðáðahraun

Are perhaps gathering sheep in secret.

    Outlaws in Óðáðahraun

Are perhaps gathering sheep in secret.

  • We ride, we ride, we drive over the sand

The twilight is sinking at Herðubreið

The elf-queen is harnessing her horse

It is not good to cross her path,

I wanted to give my good workhorse

    To be arrived in Kiðagill

I wanted to give my good workhorse

    To be arrived in Kiðagill

  • Apologies for mistakes in spelling Ódáðahraun and Kiðagil, but these are probably the least of my mistakes!
