  • Most people do gain back at least SOME weight. It's "normal." By five years post - it's something like 50% of excess weight lost is regained in whateverpercent of people with RNY.

Just keeping that in mind can help you avoid it.

  • This has been a very helpful video. Thanks for making this real. Yes, people are always telling me that they know someone who gained all the weight back. Its like people want you to fail. They just watch me and what I eat. even as much as commenting on the nutritional value of what Im about to eat. crazy.

P.S. Love that top. You look lovely.

  • Wicked

  • Thanks for this - I'm already having those "freak outs" too, though I'm a week out. You know, that whole, "Will I be the only person this doesn't work for?" Anyway, I just had my WLS on July 21 - last week. I just started posting videos, too, if you're interested in subscribing. :)

  • can you show your outfit? it's adorable from what i can see. also, please make a coupon vid because i have been looking for good and free online coupon sites. :)

  • Next time I wear that outfit, I'll snap a quick pic. lol There's a coupon video up now, but you can also go directly to my blog (over in the more info section) for coupon sites. Thanks!

  • Great video. I liked the statement re: people ensuring you realize you can gain it all back if you aren't careful... like REALLY? huh whoda thunk! lol Make a great day :o)

  • I always love your videos. Awesome attitude.

  • Girl ... I gained 4 lb last week, nearly lost my mind. My sister thought I was nuts (sister, who has had lap band). She said "seriously, you're worried about 4 POUNDS?!" ... and yes, I was! Took me 2 days to lose it after I realized it. I really paid attention to getting in my protein & fluids, and it just worked and the weight came right back off. YES, we have to remain focused that it CAN come back. And freaking out is normal. Hopefully, it'll keep me healthy!

  • Also, I LOVE your shirt!!!! It's so super cute!

  • So you mention the honeymoon period being between month 6 & 9, can you give more info on this please. What about prior to month 6?

U rock 137lbs :) u look awesome and congrats on maintaining :) love the top ur wearing here! Hi shy rob! :)

  • They do love to say that, why do they say that HOW RUDE!!!! I'm going to start say if I had a quarter for every time someone says that ...LOL and see what reactions I get ! Keep it up we love you girl!

  • Looking great lovely! :D Thanks for sharing this experience with us. I kind of get these comments sometimes and I'm only 6 months out and 1/2 way to my goal.

  • Great video. I did the same thing cause i know a girl who had it 3 years and she is bigger then me. So i allways freak out that i do gain the weight back. i eat more too on my period and i dont know why either. your looking good.

  • My aunt said that emphatically to me in March this year I didn't know how to respond I just said we'll see..but it make you feel like s^%t when someone says it...hate it too...and of course everyone she knew died after they had it done...(what 20 years ago)??? I will never be able to eat a box of ice cream in the middle of the night or a plate of spaghetti and an hour later another one again in my life...I would really have to try to gain it back now..I don't think it would be possible..LOL

  • MRS. DIVA THANKS FOR THE ADVISE

  • Thanks so much for the advice and sharing. You always have such great topics.

  • Good video, thanks ;)

  • I am so sick of hearing that too.."you could gain it all back. I know so-and-so..." Great topic. I found I need to remind myself that just because people keep expecting me to gain it back (or waiting for me to) doesn't mean it has to happen!

    Donna:)

  • Excellent points you made..... I too freak out during those 3 days of the month. Also, I'm so sick of people telling me I'm going to gain my weight back. I worked to hard and I'm very focus on my lifetime maintinance plan. Funny also, I find myself becoming a coupon queen, becoming more focus on budget and menu planning - Thanks, Kat

  • I remember my first cycle after surgery was HORRIBLE. And believe me, once you're back to normal, you'll see a huge loss in water weight. Keep strong, lady!

  • Taunia you have been such an awesome inspiration to watch since I stumbled on this community and you have given me such hope for what is to come for me. I just wanted you to know!

Also, I'd love to know what coupon sites you use! ;)

  • Thanks so much for your support! I think I'm going to record a video about the coupon stuff later today or tomorrow, and I'll also post it on my blog. Thanks again!

  • All I can say is Amen sister! I had that same moment and it is SCARY to see the scale! Thanks for posting this video!

  • It definitely WAS scary. That sounds ridiculous when the scale says 140....but it's the fear of it creeping back on. Thanks for your support!

  • Taunia, we all made a video for you we dont know if you saw it, but fantasti video once again 5 stars, yo Diva you! Everything you said was right on. Kristy

  • Aww, thanks, Kristy! I'll go check out the video in a couple minutes!

  • WHy is it that people dont think its tacky to say to you, oh be careful you know you can gain the weight back? I hate when people say that to me im like really? you think i chose to have surgery but I dont know that its possible to gain it back?!

  • I know! It's almost like they assume that because we're fat, we're also completely inept. Um, HELLO...I did SIX MONTHS of research before I made this decision. I knew ALL the risks, and weighed everything before making the decision. Of COURSE it's possible to gain it back....but we won't!

  • ADORABLE top/dress! I always enjoy your videos; I am planning on lap band surgery soon. Thanks for all you info, reality checks and laughs!

  • Thank you, and best wishes to you in your journey!

  • thanks for the heads up, alot of us aren't there yet, but its ni\ce to know beforehand so we don't completely dissolve into a little puddle! :D ((hugs)) Sarah. XD

  • True! I think I had heard this would happen, but didn't really listen. It happens to everyone, but we all get through it. :)

  • LOL the way you said LOVE to say that to you was Susan Powter to a tee!

    Great advise BTW

  • HAHA...my boyfriend jokes that I'm turning into Susan Powter. I heart her!

  • cute top!!!! thanks for being honest about the freak-out. we've all been there (omg i am enormous at 180 and here comes all the weight back! uhhh...not really) so it's nice to know you feel that way too sometimes. big hugs, girl.

  • First, you're on crack. You look FANTASTIC! Second, I totally get feeling that way....that's why it's so great that we can rely on each other in this community. But seriously, you're adorable and look amazing. Celebrate the positives, girl! :)

  • if i had a dime for everyperson who tells me "i better watch out otherwise i will gain all the weight back" i would be a millionaire!@!!!!!

  • Me and you both! We could easily afford plastic surgery then. lol

  • THANK YOU period!! appreciate this SO MUCH...

  • Thank YOU for all your support! :)

  • Taunia, you are such an inspiration. Thank you so much for being so honest and open with your experiences! I go in 7/21 (this Tuesday eeeek!) for rny and it's been a pleasure watching your videos and seeing you transform.

  • Aww, thank you so much! I wish you the very best with you journey, and hope your surgery and recovery are easy and quick! :)

  • oh we are so living the same life..LOL... I'm with you. I too approaching pms. I freak out in my head frequently. I am so trying to balance it all. I have people telling me all the time about who they know who have either gained or had major major health issues..in walkers, etc...oh the horror stories...ugh! I so wish we lived closer. At least you can turn the freak out in to great advice for others. I'm not there yet. I just continue to freak out. ROFL..hugs Love ya.You look marvelous!

  • Seriously! I wish we could go to Disney with you. Maybe next year! :)

  • well you know I'm the travelling guru so I'm game anytime!!! : )

call me sometime for crying out loud!!! I have Sundays and Wed off and usually driving in the car between 5:30 and 6:30..Shannon

  • You are doing great.

Can you pass on the coupons sites?

    Thanks

  • I'm going to do either a video or a blog update about the coupon sites. Probably within the next couple days. Thanks a bunch!

  • I love your top and I've already done the freak out and I'm not even a year out. I can completely relate to everything you said. Thanks

  • I think we all do the freak-out. (Cue music....ahhhh, freak out!) lol

  • Cute little pink polka dot overalls or whatever. Supercute!

  • It's a top...thank you! :)

  • Im glad u did this video. This is so funny because I freaked out this morning? I was like 5 pound heavier this morning. My husband had to calm me down and tell me it water weight. I was like im 5 pounds heavier then yesterday. I wanted to cry and I still do.

  • It's hard not to freak out....especially when your hormones are all out of whack! But honestly, I woke up today 3 lbs lighter than yesterday, so please don't worry. It really IS just water weight :)

  • looking hot as always ;)

  • Aww, thanks! :)

  • Where did you get your shirt? I could only see the straps, but it is so cute. Where do you usually go shopping for clothes? You've had some adorable summer shirts in recent videos. :)

  • Thank you! I got that blouse from Target last summer. :)

  • I love your top first of all...Secondly I am so glad you brough this topic to light. We've all heard the horror stories and even known some who actually have gained the weight back...However, we don't have to be in that number if we keep a handle on things...Thanks for being an encouragement!

  • Aww, thanks Allison! Thanks right back atcha! You're so inspirational. :)

  • Thanks for this video Taunia. My bypass is on Tuesday this coming week. One thing you mentioned is that people do LOVE to tell me how I can gain all this back! What the hell is up with that?! These people are close to me and you'd think they'd be confident of my long term success but it almost feels like they are waiting for that to happen. Why do you think people say things like that? I'd like to hear what you think the motivation is on those comments from others.

  • LOL, I know, right? I think that people are just so uneducated about the surgery - they just get scared for the people they care about....especially when they've heard stories about people regaining and/or getting sick. I honestly think they just don't realize how horrible it is to say that to someone, and just think they're being cautionarily helpful. Good luck on the surgery and recovery...I hope you breeze right through it! :)

  • Good to know Taunia as my surg date is 9/14. BTW you look fabulous---HI ROB!!!

  • So excited for you! Thanks for the compliments, and Rob says hi right back :)

  • May I ask how tall you are?

  • Sure...I'm 5'7". :)

  • great Video Ur the best. PS what is that coupon site?

  • There's a bunch of coupon sites! I will probably do a video about the sites and/or do a blog post...within the next couple days. :) Gotta help my peeps out - great deals!

  • Taunia, you look great!!!!!!!!!! That is so true how people love to say the "you can gain the weight back" thing. It's amazing how many people know somebody who has either gained the weight back, or died from the surgery. It seems like everyone has a story now.

  • True. I have mixed feelings about hearing those stories. Good to hear as a reminder, but bad to hear because it's a big ol' cloud of impending doom that people are throwing at you. lol I'm just happy to be maintaining at 17 months out. :)

  • I heard this a long time ago...but I heard that when we are PMS'ing our metabolism moves faster. Not sure if that's really true, but I heard it!

  • I think it might be true. I feel like I constantly need to feed my body energy during this week, and then POOF! Right back to normal after that!

  • You look fantastic Taunia...so proud of you!!

  • Thanks, Mike! Right back atcha! :)

  • You look good in this video!

  • Thanks! Do I look bad in the others? lol j/k

  • You just look a lot healthier in this one. You've always been beautiful.
