Albert Mangelsdorff was one of the most inspired and inspiring jazz trombone players ever! The amazing thing is, he didn't even start playing trombone until he was 21 years old. (his first instrument was violin and then the guitar)
Check out his earlier jazz recordings, before he ventured into a freer styles of jazz. He was a stone cold post hard bop player! And he could sound like JJ.
People underrate his mastery of the trombone sans multiphonics.
Really unusual use of the trombone. For some reason the really low notes aren't pleasing to my ear, though the rest is very nice. Thanks for posting this......and I love Mood Indigo.
At church, we have a father and son that play trombone duets quite often. Wonderful combination with the bass. Looks like a commode plunger he's holding up to the bell of the trombone!! lol....
Thanks for this great upload.
