  • I once saw Chris supporting Ben Elton in Newtown, Sydney in 1989. Bizarre really. I remember he did Swing For The Crime

  • Still holds up pretty well,

I once saw Ed play at the Blue Healer (?) in Brisbane in 2000.... unfortunately can't remember a thing...

  • @SnoopReddogg

  • Chris Bailey ...Waooou great guy !

  • "We're Chris Bailey of the Saints"....

    What...all four of 'em???

  • The sort of people who make you proud to be Australian, tour the world, go to America, go to Jamaica, back to Australia, where we don't need no whores, no murder laws, no anti-social bores, all right .

  • To Serbia again!!!!!!!

  • ozzymotorhead; what a jerkoff you say that punk rock started in the states, there are a lot of people that will disagree with that...

  • @cabcitytow haha this is 1978. the ramones first album came out in 1976

  • @ozzymotorhead The Saints first album was '76 as well, but does it matter? It's all fuckin punk if you ask me

  • kicks ass

  • Man they had so few good songs, but when they got it right, they really f*cking got it right. this is genius.

  • why can't we get music like this anymore?

  • Fuck, if only good bands could still get gigs :/ Havent played anything good for too long.

  • I think I just jizzed in my pants. hate to sound like an old fogey...but fuck...music like this...loooong gooone.

  • @cabcitytow no i don't think so

  • Yes an eternal classic, LOVE IT xxx

  • FOUR DISLIKES? you kiddin' me?!

  • @PuraVida5446 yeah, some AC/DC or Angels fans stumbled on this clip and got their heads fucked

  • Does anyone know what kind of guitar Kuepper's using?

  • @AntipodeanAl We were so lucky to be a part of it growing up.The gig guide, for Sydney at least, used to bristle with great bands at pubs no less(often for $5 or just a more expensive beer).Miss it,you bet.

  • I luv u 22222 nzoz1978 hahahaha xxxxxx

  • allright!!!! ha

  • OMG awesome, The Saints, brisbane started punk, the truth is out there..... love it....

  • @camford68 Maybe they started punk in Brisbane. :-)

  • @Nigelxman1 only that they released 'I'm Stranded' before The Damned and Sex Pistols, but not before The Ramones debut.

  • so true shame they had to go too london

  • @camford68 punk started in america in the 60s

  • @ozzymotorhead y'wat you mean hippies right?

  • Four people here on Youtube DON'T know their product...and it bothers them! :/

  • This is where The Strokes come from.

  • OMFG I didn't know about this band until today. Great great great!! i think's they're gonna be one of my favourite bands ever!

  • greatest aus band of all time, super underrated

  • ripper song

  • I first heard this as a Midnight Oil cover. Amazing how the original still knocks the piss out of everything else.

  • The only thing wrong with this song is I didn't find it until today.

  • @holycrapyousuck that's not really the song's problem

  • @nzoz1978..he he..Only valid reasons to have never heard this song before are

    a) I wasn't born in the 'old days'

    b) Ive been in cyrosleep for the last 35 years

    c) I don't appreciate great music

    d) all of the above

  • @holycrapyousuck Too Much!

  • Man those HORNS ARE FAT.

  • 33 years on and this song still kicks ass. One of my all time, desert ,island, favourite songs. All hail Chris Bailey.

  • One of the best singles of punk ! A Grrrreat band.

  • Classic Aussie rock ... they did it before the Pistols and wore no uniforms ... unlike the Punks.

  • The saints knew everything about genuine rock and roll, they're so good!!!

  • Fucked my woman on the loungeroom floor to this tonight - its hot!!

  • Those horns give me a horn every time.

  • awesome.

  • BRISBANE bands rule..............

  • Thematically I always think of this as the definitive 70s punk take on the kind of anti-consumerist rant earlier essayed by the Stones on "Satisfaction". It is neverthless a uniquely brilliant piece of work ... my favourite Saints record and video. Plus, how cool to have the little Countdown promo clip at the start?! What a find! Thanks nzoz1978.

  • He,s an Inala boy. He once said the best thing he ever did was get out of there. It,s not that bad, and I can see how one of the original punk bands comes from there. It used to be white working class, now it,s asian working class. I hope the next Gurg. comes from there!

  • One of the stand out songs of punk rock - check out Edmund does he age at all?

  • Absolute fuckin' classic tune.

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!! nzoz1978, I think I love you...

  • @diskochimp thank you!

  • @diskochimp As awesome now as when I first heard it back in '78. A massively under-rated band they produced 3 terrific albums in their first incarnation when mostly in the UK, all of which I owned and lost in a house fire. Thank God for the internet and You tube, we can now hear stuff which was largely deleted by the record companies some time ago but totally deserves recognition today.

  • Never let it be forgot: the Joh Bjelke Peterson government was fascist in nature and ran a murder system which began with grab a woman off the streets and murder her within 24 hours, confess it to the police, and you were in with the in crowd of fascist murderers. Thank Jesus Fucking Christ for people like The Saints.

  • @Lieu3C4 What the fuck ur talking about?

  • @MyBrisso . . . . exactly !!!

  • @Lieu3C4 . . . . what a bunch of shit !!! Thank god for a balanced view !!!

  • love that man-ray-esque solarisation !!

  • Jesus...now I know where Rocket From The Crypt got the idea for the entire "Scream, Dracula, Scream" album. John Reis doesn't seem like such a genius anymore...

  • The killer first track from my favourite album :D

Ivor Hay is possibly the world's most under-rated drummer.

  • "We're Chris Bailey from the Saints..."

    too perfect.

  • I forgot about this song. Bloody brilliant

  • This rocks too much!!!

  • @pelodelperro Australian bands are all BADASS!!! Didn't they have good "garage bands" in 1966.

    Cheers The Saints!

  • @sinning1966 I agree. Not really sure about INXS though ;)

  • @pelodelperro INXS is awesome too. Not as good , pure an raw as the 60-70's Australian bands though, but good enough though.

    Again, R.I.P. Micheal Hutchence. 1960-1997

  • Interesting mix of Punk & MoTown

  • @AlfieNoakesOhHo

It was their brand of punk.

They were Aussies who pre-dated the Sex Pistols with their first album. They moved to Britain, but their record label demanded they become more like that 'other punk band' and this was the result. Pure rebellion and punk attitude ;)

  • Tried explaining the 70's & 80's underground Aussie punk rock scene to a French friend, didnt get it so I sent them this, blew em away.

  • I love this, its really cool to see what Algy Ward was doin before the TANK years. cheers ,must see more!

    I

  • my fave punk-rock song ever!

    <3

  • Go The Saints-Ed Kuepper is a guitar god!!!!...nzoz you put up some great stuff-how do you get the rights??

  • @joydivisionboy1 I have no rights to all this.. i'm amazed that I'm getting away with it. Touch wood!

  • @nzoz1978 hahaha-love your work!!!

  • Crikey I am 50 years old and this song still gets me rollin'...hang about isn't he talking about me!!!!

  • Hey, it's the Aussie Stooges with some horns! Still kick ass though.

  • They just can't get no satisfaction, man.

  • shoot the professor!

  • rumour has it that nzoz is a cranky 80 year old man...

  • @KaylaRipTide (with apologies to Jeremy Clarkson) some say, that he eats only seashells, and posts only in the dead of night.

All we know is... he's called nzoz :D

  • Comment removed

  • Where's the professor?

    We need him now!

    Love it!

  • @tjswish are they referring to julius sumner miller by any chance?

  • @richardmcboingboing

Not a clue mate, I just think its the best Lyrics :)

  • one of the all time great Australian anthems.

  • haven't heard in 25 years and I'm back on track now...

  • LOVE THAT BASS LINE

  • Ah the good old days who remembers bands like The Saints Go betweens etc only ever being played on 4ZZ FM the guys at the Z,s where legends in playing Brisbane bands when all the other stations ignored them .

  • puta clase!

  • Love it! Love it ! Love it! Have loved it for years...if only our parents had listened to the warning re: the evils of advertising. Some people are just so far ahead of the pack...against many odds these guys have done so much...such an inspiration. Reminds me to keep going and not forget there has always been like minded people out there, and from Brissy of all places where I grew up too!!

  • Youtube has removed plenty of tracks from the first LP .... sniff ..... this one is still there, another masterpiece !

  • Just. Fucking. Classic.

  • "Shoot the Professor" hahahahahahahha

  • ken oath this sounds so fresh and crisp friggin unreal and it's aussie so get that up ya!

  • found this on a compilation CD from Rough Trade a few years ago,had never heard of them but wow what a great tune, cant understand why the weren't huge. Still sounds fresh 30 years later

  • My God, I love this song.

  • aussie punk in its purest form :)m48

  • Loved it.

  • Australia in the 70s and 80s was excellent we had the saints, radio birdman, the birthday party,ac/dc and a stack of other rock n rollers, grew up listening to all these bands and still do at 47yrs old,how could you not,it's the best

  • cracking track, herd it for the first time 2 weeks ago, and must have blasted it out 10 times since then. Makes me wanna buy the album.

  • great band! great vid too - solarization is the best eh?

  • One of those classics that you remember the first time you herd it waiting on countdown for the disco crap to be over and an ACDC, Queen or Kiss song to be played remember near the end of the show and then The Saints blast this song out, o'h it takes me back in time

  • yeah the song rocks...

  • fuck yes....

  • the saints were the first punk band...

but by the time they got record companies interested in the UK and getting it released etc...

    ...guess who got famous first...

  • Brilliant band - Huge Inspiration to many people.

  • One of the best songs from the golden age of rock!

  • A punk rock classic

  • Exactly mate :D

  • 31 years later and still kicks ass

  • To Much!

I love the saints. Saw them a buncha times in the 80s. Also saw Chris solo doing his blues thing. Awesome

  • Holy shit, like BB King's "Everyday I Have The Blues," meets Black Flag's "TV Party."

  • The ultimate Brisbane song

  • i saw the title '1978' and thourght are you for real...

Then i pressed play and actually i quite liked it :D

  • oh, he is "for real"

  • I mean it man !

  • Great band, great video!! *****

  • this rocks big style!

  • a very underrated band...

  • top shelf - that bass and horns - gr8 to see Chris and Ed at the All tomorrows parties with mate Dan in Jan 09

  • Couldn't believe this sound in 1978 and it still sounds white hot now.

  • Perhaps the fines slice of rock and roll from and Australian band ...too much

  • "Cheap advertising, you're lying

Never gonna get me what I want

I said, smooth talking, brain washing

Ain't never gonna get me what I need"

Take note all you brainwashed kids out there

GREAT SONG. Makes me feel proud to be an Aussie

  • Of course, only one person in the band was born in Australia.

  • Doesnt make them NOT an Australian band! Formed in Brisbane in 1974 nowhere else.

    ROCK ON THE SAINTS!

  • @fpig1000 yeah lots of us Aussies were born in the UK but if your brought up in a country from the age of 2 your considered to be from that country because that is where you were formed, all you know is from growing up there,so they are Aussies

  • One of the great Aust rock songs. Maybe the Greens could have listen.

  • These guys know the australian financial review back to front just off thier streetwise nature, these guys would know a 500 000 estates worth for sure, let alone 6 figure propertys just off stree t cred- beat that!

  • The horns do it, a real sound that the Hunters would later perfect. Adds so much guts to an all ready riffy number. A true Aus classic

  • Agreed the horns give it a little something extra

  • I wanted to give it the thumbs up! I hit the thumbs down. Ahh pooh!! I'll come back later and recitfy

  • i don't get it, "no, your product" is different than this song. someone know why? i can't find the other one anywhere

  • they're different songs... that's all. just two different songs by the same band. no explanation necessary.

  • @guntherross Know is the first song and No the last on side one of "Eternally Yours" lp.

  • I love this. Found (I'm) Stranded in my dad's old records a while ago, and I just can't get enough! These guys are legendary.

  • Amazing how miserable tales of 1970's Brisbane youth finds it's way circling around the world... who said nothing good came out of a facist state.

  • Your dad has good taste and it runs in the family :)

  • Eternally Yours is an awesome album and holds up even today. a perfect blend of punk and blues, Chris Bailey is a soulful motha.

  • yeah, he used to be

  • Algy Ward on bass went on to be the bassist with The Damned around the Machine Gun Etiqutte period.

  • This music is some of the best music ever made The saints after Stranded were red hot before keupper left

  • Kuepper's on guitar with The Bad Seeds in Europe this summer :-)

He was suporting NC last year and in my opinion he outplyed Cave (who also was great). Love Prehistoric Sounds!
