Alright, I have a question. I'm not rippin' on your driving or anything, I couldn't drive as fast as you if I wanted so this is just a question. But why no heel-toe? Just too hard on the tranny or what?
Is this for real? The driver, not the car...? How about: Try keeping your hands on the wheel more often and not the stick! Or: Learn how to heal-toe, double-clutch downshift AND rev-match! Also: Have you ever driven through the carousel in your life AND why so far inside on 1, 9 and 10!?!? And the car will go faster if you gas longer a brake later! Conclusion: WHO IS THIS DRIVER AND WHAT QUALIFIES HIM TO DRIVE THIS CAR? Sorry but take it from a former GT3 BMW driver...this guy needs work.
Yeah I think most people could have done a better job with the GTM's I have seen. Like MOMO interior or better seats and gauges that look like they should be in a nice car instead of the parts store sales rack ones.
I don't think he knows this track too well- missing alot of apexes, braking way before the zones, and generally lacking smoothness, and flow from corner-to corner. Bad ass car, though.
@Panzer928 i dont know about you but if i just got done building it or whatever i would be taking it really easy myself i would be terrified of wrecking it
Make less use of the shifter, choose a higher gear. ie, when entering turn one, enter in 3rd so you aren't shifting 2-3 in mid corner. Apex's on 1-4 are a bit off, but the rest of the track looks ok. Shorten your braking zones, stop coasting
Nice ride. Anyone who has ever raced a car knows that a short / uncorked header exhaust produces popping under deceleration. It's merely unspent fuel igniting in the collector or mufflers, which ever the case may be. Better to pop on deceleration than run lean and bake a piston.
The poping you hear is backfires from a LS1/LS2 engine, The reason is that the LS1 uses a 360 degree crank that requires double pulses in the firing order. These double pulses will send really high velocity gas pulses through your exhaust and cause the popping on decelerate and like a blurbleing noise at idle
the car is called GTM and its made by Factory five racing
Those sounds are just the exhaust noise with a little pipe rattle. Sweet exhaust sound! Looks like a ton of fun, but practice some heal and toe and late braking!
The car uses a GM LS series engine, whichever is used on the car is the choice of the builder. The rear end is out of a Porsche. The cars are super light, and even with just a stock LS1 are still BAD fast. I've seen many with the LS7 and they haul major ass.
it's excess fuel detonating in the exhaust manifold, possibly even in the mufflers...the engine is running a little rich, but that's probably how they want it tuned for this track. It's pretty cool.
i doubt he really knows how to shift the gear, at 06:10, he even shift from 5th to 6th while he was entering the corner and should downshift to 4th. this simple gear mistake can't be happened when u know how the gate is designed. and also at 06:34 he slowed down the car from a very high speed by simply braking without downshifting, and shift 6th directly to 2nd, how did that happen?
It really bothers me when people who clearly know nothing about racing try to act as THE authority in these comments.
Yes skierman, ask any real race driver (something I assume you have never done) and he will tell you that you have to be in the powerband before entering a corner so you can control the cars balance with torque. You do use the brakes, but you also blip the throttle (heel-toe) to get in the right gear for the corner for the reason mentioned above.
You are so hyprocritical. You said it really bothers you when people come on here and act as THE authority but you have then gone on to basically correct and overide what skierman said.
I have known Brian for some time and know he can do well as he did in later video. I know it was just the new car teething problems. As a driving instructor it is just my nature to be critical. No offense intended. I will send a personal note to his email address.
The backfire is due to running timing a certain # of degrees past tdc or before in order to get maximum explosion at desired rpm. I'm sure his crew or whoever tested and retested the engine to get it exactly how they wanted. When the motor slows speed the firing is still happening at the desired timing hence the unburnt fuel. ANTI he shared his video for our enjoyment, not for critisism I'm sure.
It looks like you treat summit as a drag strip. You have a fast car but your video show you are a mess in the cockpit. The usual procedure is to downshift before you turn in to a corner. You shift twice as you are driving through turn 10. Hire a driving coach and learn "how" to go fast.
That is Bryan Dobyns Last years GT1 Champion,2003 FFR West coast and East champion.2002 National champion and track record holder in anything he has every driven around Summit point. It is just that that car had not been developed for track use and has a tendency to snap oversteer under acceleration. That's why he is driving it so slow through the turns. This GTM was a prototype. It is also on street tires. Trust me any that run SCCA, BSR or NASA knowns he can drive the wheels off anything.
Congaman, this is the backflaming in the exhaust of non-burned fuel (sometimes you'll see the flames getting out of the exhaust) ... this is nothing unusual for a Supercar pushing it on the Track...
Alright, I have a question. I'm not rippin' on your driving or anything, I couldn't drive as fast as you if I wanted so this is just a question. But why no heel-toe? Just too hard on the tranny or what?

I am a fan of Factory Five having said that the difference between a true "Factory " build and these cars must be finish.
The car is noisy (nice engine music)
I guess having a fast car with no refinements is okay for the track but everyday?
I prefer putting twins on my car and not hearing wind noise or banging.
Please don't miss-understand still a fan but not for all year driving.

Would mapping the mixture to lean at 0 throttle position stop the backfiring during braking?
budbarker57 2 years ago
you wouldn't wanna run your decel map too rich, that'll fry a piston...
It would get rid of some of the afterfire, but not much, plus he would soon blow up his motor...
it's just the way the exhaust is set up, when fuel hits the hot metal of the pipes, pop!

He used a 429 Ford? all I know is I feel safer in a plane..its FAST!
He has built a few others with his friends
he said its easy.

The GTM's are much more difficult though. I've heard they take up to three times as long as a cobra.

Ask any race driver, he'll tell you that the braking is done with the brakes, not the motor. Brake parts are a lot cheaper than motor parts.
