You inspired me to try the same technique, and I discovered a way to improve it further: use the same idea as for the fade, but then isolate yourself from the background using a "difference key". Since the background is static, this essentially creates a matte of your character without requiring a greenscreen. Then apply increasing gaussian blur+alpha to make it look like you're splattering into the wall.
