Photoshop won't hurt if you want to add some good raster effects to the type (grundgy, glows, whatever) Illustrator can do them, but only so much. The rest is all After Effects. And no, you don't need a Mac to do this, although I personally use a Mac because that's what they're made for.

Don't listen to this tool bag.

First off, you don't do squat in photoshop.

You layer out your text in Adobe Illustrator and then you animate it in Adobe After Effects.

Both of those programs are available for EITHER Mac or PC either as stand alones or as part of the CS4 Suite.

Yeah--Mac or PC can both do this. It is the software application that is important, not the platform/system you are using.

Mac or Windows, you can do this kind of stuff on either, not ONLY Mac.

After Effects and Photoshop are about 1,000 ea or you can get the creative suite (CS3 or 4) for about 1,700 and get way more for your money.

If you're in school, I suggest making a friend in the art/design/digital graphics departments. I guarantee many of them have cracked copies, you can then get yourself a copy for free

@iisdan The interesting thing about this comment is that PCs are so diverse that you aren't actually insulting anything. Is the PC running Windows? Linux? Is it AMD or Intel? Is the graphics card nVidia or ATI?

Conversely, if you say "MACs are so bad it's not even funny," then everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about.

@reddog418 "PCs are so diverse" - exactly. I am talking about the standard PC running windows. No matter the hardware windows is garbage. Now Windows 8 looks decent. I havnt got around to installing the beta yet so I cannot say for sure. Windows 7 was garbage, everyone thinks it's "good" because microsoft told them it was.
