Will this be playing in the US at all? Will we get a chance to see it? I desperately hope so. I noticed the actress who plays the evil Vera Bates on "Downton Abbey" is in this. Fascinating. Now I REALLY want to see it!
@KSUgrad79 ABC has bought the rights to the mini-series, but they're still unsure whether or not they'll air it in April or May because of the fierce competition between Cameron's 3D release...
Looking forward to seeing this, my relative who died was a second class passenger so finally a movie will be showing 2nd class life instead of only focusing on 1st and 3rd!!!
I have a bad feeling that all in all i am not going to like this version.Just from a short glance i think the sets and costumes are bland, simple and innacurate, the acting looks decent enough But when you are taking on TITANIC you need more than a good script and acting.
@kingofcouture1996 James Cameron's film was intended to be a Hollywood blockbuster with the budget of $200 million. Julian Fellowes' version is intended to be a television drama with the budget of $15.4 million. You can't expect ITV to spend $200 million on a television drama, right? Every television drama with special effects have a budget, but it's about the storyline and characters that makes it watchable.
@jPod07 Well that may be,but i am just saying that accuracy is a huge thing for Titanic enthusiasts, especially when there are many ficticious characters.I think that in this show titanic is the back-drop not the focus.
@kingofcouture1996 You're right about accuracy, but Titanic will focus on the political, religious, race and class conflicts of that era which will give us an insight to the world of 1912. There's a lot of historical characters that'll be introduced into this series.. the Duff Gordons, Countess of Rothes, Allisons, Thayers, Wideners, Dorothy Gibson ect. It'll also focus on the Second Class passengers, Officers, Waiters, Stewards, Maids, Valets, Stokers, Engineers, Pursers ect.
@kingofcouture1996 Take a look at the new show 'Once Upon A Time', the special effects aren't Hollywood blockbuster material, but the storyline and the characters are strong and that's what matters. It's already 10 episodes into its run and it's already been nominated for the best TV Drama. Anyways, my point being is.. Julian Fellowes is a brilliant writer, given the international success of Downton Abbey. He's used the same format in Titanic as he did in Downton Abbey.
At 1:38 of the trailer the Titanic's hull is almost completely submerged, even the stern. The list is TOO shallow. From this perspective we can't see the list to port BUT we can see rockets being fired form the stern which is inaccurate.
After all, it's just a trailer. I think they'll correct those mistakes. The special effects are brilliant though. In comparison with those from the mini-series Titanic by R. Liberman they are breath-taking.
@shushkka1 You're right about that. I think since the Titanic is listing to port, it's creating that shallow effect. I think once we watch the series, we'll get a better view of what's really happening. Yes, I noticed that too. I hope they'll change that. Julian Fellowes should know that never happened.. anyone would know that. Yes, I was completely amazed at how great the special effects are for this mini-series. The 1996 mini-series had some good effects, but everything else was fake.
Really? I didn't notice that. At what minute in trailer can I see it?
I've always wondered why in all the films about the Titanic the list to port wasn't shown.
I hope we'll also see the slight pitching of the ship as it's sailing before the disaster because in Cameron's version the Titanic is sliding on the water as if it's moving on a railway track. Even the line of the horizon remains at the same level.
@shushkka1 At 1:26 you can see the windows tilting to the port side. You can also see it in a few shots in the original teaser trailer. I think they used one of the newer theories of the Titanic sinking in a shallow angle.
What do you mean of a slight pitching before the disaster? I never heard about that before...
@jPod07 Well. I'm not sure how to put it in English but I'll try. When any ship is moving it's slightly tossing on the waves. I know that the 4 days before the disaster the sea had been calm but I think a slight tossing was there anyway)
I read that a passenger from the first class was suffering the sea-sick so much that he couldn,t sleep at night. And when he was as lucky as to fall asleep Titanic hit the iceberg and his wife didn't want to wake him up at first.
Why do they show the ship's listing at such a low angle? The testimony says that the stern rose up at a height of a twenty-storey building. Besides, when Titanic was sinking it was listing heavily on the bow and the portside.
@shushkka1 This is just a trailer, not the final, finished product. I understand what you mean though. When it airs on TV we'll see what they do. They'll show it on a high angle
@shushkka1 According to 2005 research presented on the History Channel, the Titanic might have sunk at a lower angle than originally thought. Even the originally thought of angle though was about 20 to 30 degrees and not the 45 degrees shown in the 1997 movie. Note this is before the break-up. After the break-up, the angle increased steeply but this trailer does not show that stage of the sinking.
@OBrasilo No one will ever know how the Titanic actually sank. Many researches can be done, but they can't be 100 % accurate. Even the survivors' testimonies were very controversial. Some said there hadn't been a break-up, some said there had been an explosion and a break-up. Lorence Bisley said that the ship was rising as high as a 20-storey building without any indication on an explosion. There was no moon that night and it was pitch dark. Sad but true, we'll never know how it was.
Wow! At 1:13, the B & C Deck first class corridors are well reproduced, with their mouldings hiding the pipes on the overhead, as they were found in the Haltwhistle factory! It's the first time EVER a movie about Titanic makes an exact replica of these corridors! Even Cameron didn't get it right^^
@krugerfuchs I think the storyline will be much better than Cameron's film as there are three sixty-minute episodes to tell the stories of each point of view from a different perspective of the characters we're following and then see all their stories drawn together in an explosive climax in the fourth and final episode.
@krugerfuchs Agreed! Judging by the trailer, I think we're instored for an emotional, suspenseful mini-series. It bares a lot like Downton Abbey.. except on the Titanic.. which is perfect!!
I think the special effects are great for a television drama on a $15.4 million budget. It's definitely better than the sneak peak that we saw in October. I think we're stored for a great television drama!

Titanic movies have been made with 10-15 year intervals since the sinking (1929, 1943, 1953, 1958, 1979, 1996, 1997) so this is expected.
