I live in florida and there are tons of ant hills where I live. It's pretty easy to find a queen, just dig deep until you see larve. take the queen, then create your own army of ants. Rinse and repeat. (BTW I have released the suckers into an area near me INFESTED with other insects, it took them a week or two to kill everything there. including frogs and mice. Fuck yeah.)
@lonewolf6565 actually your colony will last indefinately if you have a queen because with a new queen comes many lil aint babies. this keeps generation after generation of new ants in the farm. the gel is also their food btw. also when your colony gets to a stable time period it can be enjoyable to fight it with another ant farm you may have. or give them the occasional snack of a live meal. have fun :D

@Wassenhoven420 You can wash it out after they die. They last a few months. They eat the gel. After you wash it out it leaves the gel the ants didn't touch and you can put more in if you want.

@Wassenhoven420 The gel is not hard, nor soft. It is a little harder than gellatin. I don't think that getting a queen would be a good idea for this type of ant farm. You would have to get a much larger ant farm to contain all of the larvae and ants

They last between 30-90 days I think depending on the environment. You can very easily wash out the ants after that and then use the gel again with a new batch of ants, or get a new one. It's good because you don't need to feed them so there is almost no mess whatsoever.

they are pretty much the same thing. The ants that live in your yard are probably smaller, but they'll dig. The gel farm's holes are really small (they don't need much air) so they won't probably escape.

You can sometimes trick them to dig if you place a small flashlight (pen light) against the side without tunnels, near the bottom. Leave the light on over night and they will dig towards it thinking it is the way out. :)
you can either wait until the summer moth's and when the ants fly look on the ground for a bigger than usual ant ( the qeen ) or order from a company. A brilliant site for you to find out about ants is

no but they are much easier to get hold of, they are the best breed to start of with
(lasius niger)the common garden ant because they are much more activa and a lot safer than all other ants because they cannot harm you at all. And no they cannot escape rest assured! reply if you need more help or things cleared up,happy new year!

Depending on how long the gel lasts until the ants eat it all I might be tempted to get one : P do you know were I might be able to buy the gel though? for me that little box is way too small and I've seen bigger ones the size of fish tanks... now that would last you a lot longer!!
