i got the same amp,and i love it. if you wanna here it in action. visit our channel. search (lowater music) we have origianal songs on there. it shows how versital it is.
@theworldsbestben3 Not really, I sold this amp years ago. As you can see from my posted videos, I've gone through maybe 5 main amps in 5 years or so. Got a 2010 Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifer on it way this week, and whether I like it or not, it will probably end my amp search. After that it's pedals. haha. I remember that the Vintage Clubs were built in the Ampeg factory in St. Louis I think? Other than that, I don't know too much.
Hell, had you kept it going with the blues sound, You'd have sold at least 10 of these amps by now!! The amp has a great ballsy tube sound, until you kill it with effects..
hahaha, Sorry. I'm not sure you saw my comments below, but I sold it because preamp tubes kept dying in it before the 3rd set of my gigs. I currently play an FJA Modifies Peavey 5150 that can take on any amp for 3x its retail price. (I gotta post more videos of that amp)
hahhaha! Like i've said, If the tubes didn't keep frying I'd probably still have that amp now.
I don't think I ruined it with FX, I turned up the reverb knob and turned on the Maxon OD pedal. I didn't have a Small Stone in the FX loop or anything hhaha
No, you didnt ruin it with fx. Those guys are idiots, you turned on a boost pedal and thats it. "Ruining" it with fx is turning on 50 different modulation pedals.
I have the same Vintage Club 50. Bought him new, about 750 euro (1.000$) nine years ago. Superb sound but to heavy and I had some problems with the motherboard card. Changing the valves costs a fortune.
Not sure if I know what you mean? This is the VC212 or something. Crate has those "V" series, i think.... those aren't all tube, last time I checked. This is a tube amp.
sounded good for a second, dont go into the same old stuff that some thinks is impressive, no, see blackmore, billy gibbons, especially blackmore, he is untouchable. tone sounds good, these are a god sound, great clean, but they need to make em more durable, i hear, i got marshall, fender an engl here, just great.
I sold my Vintage club because the clean channel kept dying on me during gigs before the 3rd set.
As you can see in my last post, I use a 5150 head now.
I don't usually try to "go into the same old stuff people think is impressive." I just play how I play. there are millions better than me, there are millions I can bury. It's all fine by me. I never play to impress.
The Crate VC series kicks butt. I have a twin and the VC5212. Forget the nameplate. The VC is nicer tone and you don't have to be at stage volume to hear how nice it is. (as opposed to the twin). Used, it's half the price of a used twin.
My rig has changed so many times since this video, currently (as of March 2008) I am using an original 5150 head that I am having modded by FJA Mods. I DO PLAN on buying another Vintage Club sometime... probably the 30 watt 1x12.
Hey. I actually have the same amp. I picked it up for a steal and love the tone. I'm thinking of replacing the tubes. I wish they weren't such a pain to get to.
For all the hype of groovetubes and all the sovetek bashing - I replaced my old sovteks with groovetubes and my VC5212 sounded like someone just turned off a compressor pedal. I can't speak of what the new products r like. But the old sovteks sounded better.
hi,sounds like im headin in the same direction,,im looking at the jsx also, and this crate v50,,,what do you think about the jsx,,some say the dist gets thin,,any comments,,,,nice chops by the way,,,
Hi! my vc50 arrived yesterday, I bought it on ebay, but I think there's a problem with clean channel, after volume 2 it go to overdrive...is it normal? I'm playing with a strato.Thank you!
I have the VC50 310 version, and I love it so much. If you want a tube swap, this is what I recommend: 4 EHX El-84s in the power amp, and then a Tung Sol 12ax7 for your clean stage, JJ Tesla 12ax7 for first gain stage, another Tung Sol for your second gain stage, and an EHX 12ax7 for your phase inverter. Really maximizes the capabilities of the amp and boosts up the potential gain levels.
I just got a black Club 50 and love it so far. I need to replace the tubes since I got some microphonic tubage going on. Other than that I love it. Oh, it is the 2x12 version.
Man, I do miss that amplifier. Too damn bad it kept blowing a Preamp tube by the third set while gigging...

Jesus. 20,000 views of an amp I owned for a few months. Wish I had a better camera if it was to be viewed this much.
Gregrg7 2 years ago
So are there any major differences between this amp and the newer vintage series?
Rambo29 2 years ago
The newer Vintage series have/had EL34 tubes, not EL84.
And I think the newer stuff is Chinese made. Vintage Clubs were made in the Ampeg factory near St. Louis.
Gregrg7 2 years ago
Ahh that makes a difference. I've also been looking at the Crate Palomino V32 2x12, is that American made?

Me too and agreed! Best tone ever when I mix it with my Holy Grail Reverb! Though the amp reverb is already quite ample.

is the distortion coming from the amp or from a pedal?
UnseenSins 3 years ago
Both? In this video I'm using a Maxon Overdrive pedal, that's the first distortion you hear. then I switch to the overdrive channel on the amp.
I SHOULD be getting my FJA modified 5150 head NEXT WEEK. I WILL UPLOAD NEW VIDEO! :)
