@TheCrookedTimber He speaks. He wills us to pray and to obey our Lord and His commandments. But the sheep Pope Benedict herds are ignorant, wild, and worldly. It is not his fault that most Catholics do not even go to Mass on a weekly basis, or use condoms and pills to prevent life. It is theirs and theirs alone. They know they are not supposed to use contraception, and go to Mass. But they are disobedient. All the same, we must warn them of their disobedience and the death which is brings.
God forgive those liberal sons of bitches who desecrate the Church and the Lord with their liberal theology and their scepticism which makes everything blurry and beyond understanding. I have the blessing of a traditional (lower-case t) Catholic pastor who insists that right is right and left is left, and this dissent of the liberal masses is repulsive. We must warn the lesbians and the communists of their errors and beg them not to fall for these societal assassins they mistake for "freedom".
@TheCrookedTimber That you can call them ugly and vulgar shows how incredibly black your own heart is. I love the Mass of John Chrysostom, but our Masses are beautiful and wonderful in their own ways. And like the Eastern Rite, we do ours in the vernacular, we consecrate the Host which then becomes the Body and Blood, and we partake of the feast Christ had on that holy Thursday night so long ago. Literally, when you partake of the Liturgy or the Mass, you travel back in time.
No, you cannot remain Catholic or Oriental. Of course, there are the so called Uniat CHurches, which confess the Pope as the only one bishop, but this is not right. If you want to accept the real right path, you have to be converted to Orthodoxy. :)
Nothing against catholics, of course, but there is a big difference between Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians :)
You need to talk to an Eastern Orthodox ( it doesn't matter if of Greek , Romanian , Russian etc, descent , you will go through a little bit of catechesis ( because you're Roman Catholic , it shoudln't be too much ) and you will be Chrismated (as you are already baptized ) . Of course you will have to prepare yourself , besides catechesis through fasting and confession. . You will need an Orthodox sponsor for your Chrismation .
2nD VATICAN COUNCIL states that the ORTHODOX CHURCH and the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH are equal. One is not better than the other. It also reminds the Roman Catholics that many early church fathers came from the east. There are many great traditions in the Orthodox faith and Catholic faith that make each other unique. Lets stop the ignorance and hate.
@95rrs Like I said, petty differences. The division of the two Catholic Churches, east and west, is scandalous. I'm no scholar, but the wording in filoque is just splitting hairs. One flock, one Shepherd.
@3SRBIJACCCC Same here. We both do at least agree on the Real Presence, the necessity of the bishops, and other historically Christian things the Protestants do not have. However, you guys fail to accept the authority of Rome which Christ gave to Peter as "the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven". See Isaiah 22:22 and Revelation 3, and you shall see clearly that Christ was giving Peter not only the first voice among equals, but second-in-command status. And how necessary it has been!
@3SRBIJACCCC Orthodox and Protestants have broken the old tradition, recognised since Augustine and before, that contraception is immoral. You let your church members, your congregation, take a stranglehold of your churches and let them believe that contraception, which for over a millennium has been considered a sin (however trivial), is acceptable.
And how can Protestants OR Orthodox say they are the Church Christ established when they cannot even theologically agree among themselves?!
Traditional Orthodox churches either don't have pews, or if thay do, they are just around the perimeter of the chappel. Sometimes orthodox churches will hold thier literagies in churches belonging to, or recently sold from another denomination of Christianity. Tradionally Orthodox Literagy is done standing.God bless!!!
Im from OCA. I dont think it matters if you have benches or chairs or whatever. As long as you stand when you should stand and sit when its aloud. During priests sermon. BEFORE the services start. and during the epistle.
I have never been to either Russian or Serbian Orthodox churches before. I attend an Antiochian Orthodox Church. I would really like to visit a Serbian or Russian church, but there are none nearby.
As a soon-to-be convert to Orthodoxy I thought I'd say that in my experience just about every Orthodoxy liturgy I've been in my region has benches because they are not originally Orthodox churches. Unfortunately they had to be converted because they weren't able to build a new Orthodox building (although there is a couple beautiful buildings in the traditional style). The majority of the liturgy is still done while the laity is standing.
so much beauty in the Orthodox liturgy! i find myself longing for each sunday throughout the week, just to attend the liturgy. what a feeling of grace one finds dwelling therein. Christ is among us!
God bless you for posting such a simple and honest presentation. I am Greek Orthodox, but I attend services at an OCA church as well, and a friend has inquired about our faith. I've been looking for some videos to show her, and yours is perfect. Even that one small voice chanting "Lord, have mercy" perfectly portrays the truth that most of us experience at our vespers services. May my friend someday be that voice in the Orthodox church of her choice.

If I'm confirmed Roman Catholic, is there a process if I wanted to join the Orthodox Church? Thanks!

@Boeing737Sucks I'd look up a local Orthodox Church and consult the local priests. Many priests actually will do different things sometimes.

@Boeing737Sucks Or you could switch Ritual Jurisdictions and remain Catholic of The Byzantine or Oriental Tradition.

You have to think a little on this aspect: in Jerusalim, the Holy Light appears only at the Orthodox Ester.

Roman Catholic is the true religion

@samiam98s
Wrong: Roman Catholic is not the true religion because of Filioque, wich destroyes the Trinity unit.

@95rrs If Filoque is all that divides us, then we will be united someday. Filoque is a petty difference.

hmm... there is not only Filioque, there are olso the Eucharist with unleavened bread(like in Jewish religion) and the purgatory.

@3SRBIJACCCC You realise Catholic do not recognise Orthodox as heretics? Merely insubordinate.
All the same, pity what that insubordination has done. It has allowed contraception and divorce into your marriages, to your peril.
SorokChyetirye 6 months ago
@SorokChyetirye We don't care what ROMAN-Catholic thinks or recognize. We only care what our ancient laws made by apostles and Christ recognize.
