Martyn is AWESOME, My wife and I have seen him twice at Leyland Wardon Arts centre and we sat mesmerized. He is just so natural live, funny and moving, watching him play a guitar just blows me away, just listening to him play makes you feel happy, emotional and in awe. Thankyou Martyn for making a difference in life, Please don't stop writing such amazing music.
I never heard that song before now. Just felt a chill run down my spine. This guy is a true artist. I found this one because I was looking for "love is" and thought the title was cool...I hope "love is" is on here somewhere though
I saw him play last night opening for Ani DiFranco in Edmonton. I had never heard of him before but he absolutely blew me away, I was really moved by his set. He's a kind guy too, was talking to him after and got a CD signed. I'll be spreading the word about him for sure.
I saw Martyn open for Ani Difranco in Edmonton last night, and I absolutely loved his performance and music! I got a brief chat with him at the merch table, and told him so! Thanks Martyn for some wonderful music- I'm enjoying my 'acoustic' concert cd (Live Greenbelt '06)!
I was fortunate enough to see Martyn in an intimate livingroom concert this past January. There were maybe 30 people in total and he played really long sets. I even got a chance to chat with him for about 10 min during the break. It's 3 hours I will never forget. Just amazing.
Martyn is a genius and the best kept secret in British music. Surely our most gifted songwriter and a superb guitarist. How is it that such immense talent can be seen at Caistor Sports & Social Club in Lincolnshire? He always gives everything at every gig and never fails to amaze. Go see him if you want to see REAL TALENT and a memorable performance, but be warned, you'll laugh with him and you'll probably cry when you consider his lyrics, like I said, the guy's a genius.
Someone introduced me to him in the eighties, I didn't understand him then. But I do now. On the subject can anyone help me I'm serching for a christian album called the Fall and rise of the techno's
it has a song with a poem they tried to touch the sun, they sought the holy grail but icarus could have told them waxen wings will fail...i'd apreciate any civilised comments..
This is officially the first time I've ever heard of this guy. I know, its pretty crazy. but I think ill be spending some time digging up who he is. thanks for the post. incredible guitar.
It is obvious from the time sequences of he above posted comments that many comments must be being suppressed and that is a piss off and extremely censorial - I hope this is very clear to whoever is moderating - don't message me I won't open.
thank you you tube and poster for the opportunity to listen to this fantastically energetic performance - fine lyrics also to be proud of - solely in terms of actual video imagery so different for example to Celine Dion singing another lovely song The Power of Love. Anyway again many thanks. Enjoy.
Saw this song highlighted in the Guardian Newspaper blogg today and am very glad to have now had this opportunity to hear this. Many thanks You Tube and vid poster and of course Martyn Joseph.
I love Martyn, absolutely love him! Was introduced to him by my parents, and I think he's just amazing! : )

Well this version simply ROCKS! The studio version seems a bit uninspired, anyway he is the man for a stage...

Folkingdot, is there any way you could post "Next Time I See You" from the "Being There" CD? One of his best and can't find it anywhere. Thanks

@becky8610 Mumfords and Sons are a terrible, uninspired run of the mill folk band and comparing Martyn is an insult.

Well, funny comment I came her because today i came along MUMFORD and remembered this great artist MJ is. So I guess the mumfords are his sons ;-)

Awesome! Great singer, entertainer and guitarist. We are grateful in little old Banbury that he has blessed us with his presence this last weekend.

Reminiscent of Dire Straits! Just heard him on Aled Jones' Radio 2 programme - he sang a song called Cardiff Bay (I think) it was beautiful!

Does anyone know the guitar tuning for this? Is it double drop D or an open D tuning?
phuech 4 years ago
@phuech He uses DADGAD a lot, it might be that.

The guitar in this video is a Lowden LSE2 with spruce top and rosewood back and sides. It's a thinner bodied Lowden F more or less. :)
