  • Can't get over how attractive Bev Bevan was..

  • UH yEAH..i LOVE ELO , i Love CHUCK bERRY...WHAT'S HE WEARING ON HIS HEAD? ALUMINUM SHREDS? lol

  • i heard this song earlier today on the radio and it skipped the classical intro and i was like AH YEA CHUCK FUCKING BERRY......wait a minute ITS BETTER ITS ELO!!!!!!

  • As a kid I borrowed that single. I played it and played it and played it.

  • I saw that Celebrity Theater show in Phoenix in 72 also....they played a second encore, same song again, roll over beethoven!

  • I love how they incorporate the Beethoven music into their song, gives me goose bumps every time

  • I love the version with the longer classical intro. ELO was the PERFECT group to cover this song. Certainly better than Chuck Berry and the Beatles.

  • @Scott06096 I'll give you that! Fantastic band, good times long ago. (Sniff)

  • ^_^

    soooo good !!

  • Mike DeAlberquerque always looks like he just came from teaching an university literature course.

  • They are the top UK Rockers :) Give or take Robbie Robertson, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney or Cream.

  • Great..just great

  • Can't Beck do something to appear a little more hip?

I bet he gets good TV reception, though.

  • At least we can see Mr. Colin Walker playing his cello. An unknown member who rarely appears on videos or interviews. The few shots on him show he was having a very good time with the band. A shame he had to leave.

  • Just heard on the morning news about the tragic passing of cellist Mike Edwards, who was an ELO member when this was taped.

  • this rock:]

  • jaja esta buenisimo es de antaño este tema!!!! Perfectoo,un buen tributoa Chuck Berry <3 E.L.O FOREVER!!!!

    Saludos de Argentina :)

  • #FTW

  • Roy, Jeff and Bev created a masterpiece of a band... even though Roy didn't stick around too long. I guarantee Jeff is having a little fun with his glossy version of Roy's getup.

  • Tandy in a tank-top; Now THAT is interesting!

  • Too bad they were just faking to the radio cut version of this song. I'd love to find an actual live version but I haven't seen one yet....

  • @speake7 = I believe this is the Live at the BBC version....

  • this should be the greatest rock n roll song of all time

  • @cjdiazof3 It's certainly up there!

  • I saw ELO in Phoenix in the early or mid-70's. They did an 11 minute version of this with an extended fiddle solo. THAT GUY CAN PLAY! I've never seen a better fiddle either before or since. Thanks for the posting and the memory! This is a great version.

  • @appalcarp Did the cello players run around and spin their instruments? I saw them about '76. One of the best concerts I ever saw, and I've seen a lot. I wasn't even a fan before I went.

  • @thebird55 correction: I saw them 07/07/78, Birmingham, AL

  • @thebird55 I was at the BJCC that night TOO ! Was it AWESOME or what? You KNOW it was. :) We should check our ticket stubs to see how close we were "sitting" to each other that night. God what a GREAT concert that was. :o

  • @TakeYourStinkingPaws I wish I still had my stubs. I had them in my wallet, which was stolen in the early eighties. I believe I was sitting (when I wasn't roaming) at about '4 o'clock' to the stage. Not real close. I wasn't a big fan of ELO at the time. I was not expecting much. Boy, was I surprised. One of the best shows I've ever been to. Acoustics were great, which was a surprise, also.

  • @appalcarp the violinist changed in the later ELO shows, around the mid 1970s i think where Mik Kaminski joined and he blew this bloke out of the water with his fiddle playing :L

  • @appalcarp never got that opportunity. This was a real treat tho.

  • @appalcarp I can see what you're saying about the violinist, but you've seriously gotta see Mik Kaminski, who's an absolute legend and god on the violin. I've never seen/heard a violinist who was/is playing contemporary music as good as Mik. Honest. Check him out.

  • I think someone put the head of the abominable snowman on Jeff Lynne's body. None the less, this is one of their better "live" versions of their excellent version of this song.

  • is he secretly santa clause or king neptune on his off days?

  • jjajaaj

  • You know..I'd never seen this before, I don't believe, but I think Jeff may very well be doing a Roy Wood here..Could be wrong, but I don't think this was shot long after they parted ways. I saw quite a bit of footage of ELO w/ Roy Wood where he had a wig/beard thing going..and maybe Jeff is having a bit of fun at his expense????

  • Yea, I was thinking Roy Wood.

  • roy wood was the lead singer from Wizzard.. but yes they do look alike..

    this is Jeff Lyn..

  • @bpwaddell Oh yea, I think Jeff was trying to get some revenge here with a Roy Wood imitation after he split before the 2cd album was done.

  • You are probably right there! Hugh McDowell the cellist who jumped ship with Roy penned a Wizzard B-side called Bend over Beethoven just after this, so there may have been a little bit of Rivalry there!

  • Not sure I remember that...that McDowell left w/ Roy Wood....I've got to look up Bend Over...I'm not familiar w/ that...thx.

  • Yeah It was the B-side to Wizzard's ''See My Baby Jive'' of course McDowell would return to the ELO fold late in 1973

  • Thank you very much for the great video!:-))
