I think too DiPirro has also helped. Rich is shown more often - Drew is supportive of his team - Lanisha, Gwendolyn, Rachel, Brandi, Amber, Manuela (models), Kathy, Stan, Sue, Adam (producers), or the staffers of the scenes, and of course Rich.

I don't know why they don't show the announcer the way that they did with Rod Roddy and Johnny Olsen before the 6th contestant is called. It's always been a staple of that show and they stopped doing it a long time ago. But I liked Bob Barker and the audience's Happy Birthday greeting to Rich Fields.
First, there is a legal reason CBS doesn't want anyone else than Rich Fields to announce the names. If they let me do it, I could tell whomever I wanted to "come on down" and it damages the intergity of the show (thinking how the legal department at CBS might think)

I don't know why but I always thought he was black. At least now I know better. However it makes me wonder what it would be like if Joel Godard from Conan O'Brien's show did the announcing.
On a semi-related note, I believe the announcer for Family Feud, who was a temporary announcer between Ror Roddy and Rich Fields, is black. He doesn't sound like it, though.
The announcer on "Family Feud" is Burton Richardson. In addition to filling in on the daytime "The Price Is Right", he was the announcer for the syndicated version of "Price" that aired in 1994. Burton was also the announcer for The Arsenio Hall Show.
The company that now "owns" TPIR (Fremantle Media?) has some sort of stupid rule that announcers can't be seen on the air. You didn't see Rod much his last couple of years either after Fremantle took over.
Interesting. I attended a few tapings in June, and when one of the audience members asked if they could call the next contestant to come on down, either Rich or Bob said that they "got in trouble the last time they did that."

Rich actually walks out for the wave after his sign off EVERYDAY. Time allowing, he is shown on the credit roll. Its NOT a decision made by Rich.

Towards his last few years, Johnny was shown on camera at least twice every episode. He even was shown laughing when something funny was occuring.
