whilst i appreciate the purist ouvre i have to say the guy appears not to entirely lack the chops sufficient to treat us to a little improvisation on the lovely TW theme. i wonder what stopped him.. did the spirit of jazz die with the human soul already ;?
I much prefer this intro cos this is the one I grew up listening to..
This original version has a touch of 'cool' and has listenabilty, it holds the interest til the 'end-of-the-story'. The melody (like Gene Rodenberry's original Star Trek theme) rises upward, giving an impression of 'reaching out', of progressiveness and modernity, anticipation. It represents 'the future' so well.
You do a very nice job of playing this. Well-done.
Thank you for your comment. Of all of the TV tunes I have recorded I still find this the one I am most pleased with because it has a warmth and gentleness to it.
Wow that sent shivers up my spine. Since Moving to Australia : ( I have not heard this theme for 30 + years. I am glad I heard it this way Fan tastic !!!
Thanks gmaccruyff5. Its a Knockout - I did that one a couple of weeks ago - or do you mean something else? Barry Norman I did look at; the theme is just the first few bars of a more freestyle piece and it is difficult to know where to stop. I can do the first few bars easily enough though.
Welcome. I enjoy making these videos and reading the comments. This tune somehow has improved with time; television was a lot more powerful then than now and this tune vividly links back to that time.
Thanks. Glad you like it. I don't know if the sheet music exists - I just learned it by listening. It would be very hard to write down the last few bars because of the timing going into freefall.
The TW theme played here is by the late John Dankworth, don't know the title though.

Amazing! The melody is easier to follow on this version than the full-on version. Did you learn to play it by ear or did you have the dots?

Hi deltango66 - I worked it out by ear.

I prefer the 80s intro, but it's probably because that was the one I grew up listening to.

Very well done (your hands looked pleased it was all over) - I'm looking for the music on CD so I can make a retro film based on the opening credits
