  • The TW theme played here is by the late John Dankworth, don't know the title though.

  • The boys got talent

  • whilst i appreciate the purist ouvre i have to say the guy appears not to entirely lack the chops sufficient to treat us to a little improvisation on the lovely TW theme. i wonder what stopped him.. did the spirit of jazz die with the human soul already ;?

  • Hey what a player!

  • Thank you for this - i don't know why the BBC messed around with it - the original was brilliant

  • I much prefer this intro cos this is the one I grew up listening to..

This original version has a touch of 'cool' and has listenabilty, it holds the interest til the 'end-of-the-story'. The melody (like Gene Rodenberry's original Star Trek theme) rises upward, giving an impression of 'reaching out', of progressiveness and modernity, anticipation. It represents 'the future' so well.

You do a very nice job of playing this. Well-done.

    Fucking great tune, man!

  • Amazing! The melody is easier to follow on this version than the full-on version. Did you learn to play it by ear or did you have the dots?

  • Hi deltango66 - I worked it out by ear.

  • Incredible! Glad you uploaded this fantastic rendition here. Thanks

  • Thank you for your comment. Of all of the TV tunes I have recorded I still find this the one I am most pleased with because it has a warmth and gentleness to it.

  • Wow that sent shivers up my spine. Since Moving to Australia : ( I have not heard this theme for 30 + years. I am glad I heard it this way Fan tastic !!!

  • Hi Franquay - glad you liked this and thanks for favoriting it.

  • impressive! wish i could play the piano like that.

  • Thanks gmaccruyff5. Its a Knockout - I did that one a couple of weeks ago - or do you mean something else? Barry Norman I did look at; the theme is just the first few bars of a more freestyle piece and it is difficult to know where to stop. I can do the first few bars easily enough though.

  • Paul this is superb, christ nows how you learn it though. Two i would like to hear are:-

1.Its a Knockout(British version or Jeau sans frontiers).

2.Film-1977 etc.the one Barry Norman used to introduce.

  • What you tube is all about sharing your talent in a home video Thanks I always liked that tune

  • Welcome. I enjoy making these videos and reading the comments. This tune somehow has improved with time; television was a lot more powerful then than now and this tune vividly links back to that time.

  • Port Vienna

YouTube won't let me reply to you post for some reason.

    Anyway. Thanks. Glad you approve.

There is a sibling reply which sounds like the full version.

  • Regardless of whether you like this song or not - I personally find it brings back good memories - thats pretty damn good playing.

  • Thanks.

  • Excellent rendering of one of the best TV opening themes EVER - would like to hear the full version.

  • I prefer the 80s intro, but it's probably because that was the one I grew up listening to.

  • Very well done (your hands looked pleased it was all over) - I'm looking for the music on CD so I can make a retro film based on the opening credits

  • Thanks. And good luck with finding the CD, it must exist somewhere.

  • Hi thanks for reply - I've actually found it as an mp3 download on Amazon!

  • Let me know when your film is finished.

  • Will do just scouting for suitable filming locations

  • Very impressive. I've been looking for the sheet music and haven't been able to find it- did you work it out ?

  • Thanks. Glad you like it. I don't know if the sheet music exists - I just learned it by listening. It would be very hard to write down the last few bars because of the timing going into freefall.

  • That makes your playing all the more impressive- really excellent.

  • That was awesome, I'm not worthy!!!

  • Hay thanks - glad you liked it.
