PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
Natural Science live is, in my opinion, the very best example of the brilliance of Geddy Lee..most bassists struggle to play through this line without fatiguing or losing track and he manages to play it perfectly while singing Neil's characteristically complex lyrics. An honourable mention to Turn the Page but even that doesn't quite match this
Brilliant version (and superbly recorded) of one of my favourite Rush songs. I have one small criticism (and it is small) - Geddy has too much to do on stage and he rightly concentrates on his bass playing, with the result that the vocals are unclear in places. But I would never join the "Rush should hire a vocalist" camp - that would be ridiculous. We all know all the words anyway.
Best band ever. I started listened to them around Power Windows (I was 12) and they have evolved into something that continously entertains. No other band has done what they have over their 40 year history. I think I have seen them 11 times or so and I can't wait for another Rush album. Good post.
Compare this to postings of the same song in 2002, and you'll find the newer version has more drive and guts. These guys got better over six years' time.
That was an AWESOME concert!! My sweetie laughed at me when I wore earplugs, but I not only enjoyed the concert, I could HEAR the next day . . . .! Not only are they great to listen to, they actually sound BETTER in concert than on recordings.
Dream Theater has come close...Queensryche had it for a bit in the 80s and early 90s....but what other band has written music as far reaching and entertaining as Rush has over the years and stayed as relevant?
I got tickets to this show off Craigslist the night before. The deal seemed sketchy, but boy was I surprised when we were directed to our seats, 4 rows out from Geddy! Killer show, and this was a personal favorite for me. One of the best shows ever.
great song from one of their best albums.RUSH is without a doubt the greatest band in the world.I can't think of any other band with just three guys, that could come close,RUSH is timeless.
I was there and yes it was very cool there... at least for them on the stage. Geddy even mentioned it that it was a "chilly, chilly night" on the song Mission. Great show though. Best one I've ever been to.
LOL I don't know if you were cleaning it up or not....he actually said it was "shitty, shitty weather"...I believe so anyways....I was there as well and at the Gorge the night before where it was pretty windy.
