  • Dear Haiying, If you had to reccomend one or two brushes for me to do chinese calligraphy (and some ink painting) as a beginner which would you chose? Any other tips for a beginner??? Also, do you have another website where you display and sell your art? Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

  • @VidaPortuguesa give me a few minutes

  • @VidaPortuguesa For beginners, I have a set of three brushes on my online shop, good for painting and calligraphy. The tip for beginners are, practice. As for material, I rank the importance as follows: brush, then paper, then ink. I put my paintings on the same online shop (when I am not ashamed of selling) Thank you.

  • @yanghaiying Wow, thank you so much, you're information was so helpful. Thank you SO much!!!! keep up the absolutely wonderful work!! Thanks again!!

  • thank you very much

  • crys :( imiss mr jiang he is so good:(

  • what does the kanji say

  • @UkumaOokami

it says swallow (bird). kanji is japanese, pls call this hanzi :)

  • 謝謝您! Mr. Jiang 的書法真的好精美呀

  • hey! that's my chinese name!!!

  • do you have to have ink or can i use black paint?

  • @kicker4949 You can start with color and when you are ready or when time is ready, buy the good quality ink or ink stick. What do you think?

  • @yanghaiying yeah i was parcticing with paint i did ok. but the paint is thick i am going to get some ink sometim soon Thx!

  • @yanghaiying

yes, you need both ink and paper for calligraphy, otherwise it won't be appealing. Boh ink and paper have certain qualities that are required for it to be called calligraphy.

  • Sigh, I miss Mr. Jiang! Where did he Go? he is a true master...

  • @slerk9 He is still living in Australia. I have kept video footages of his lessons and will make into DVD if people are interested.

  • What does the word he is writing mean?

  • @kelseywall it means swallow, it is also the name of an ancient empire of China

  • @kelseywall 燕 means indeed swallow, but the bird; not the verb. You probably recognised the first character as a pictograph of a bird. It's transliterated in pinyin as: yàn. It's the 4th tone.

  • How I wish I could get into this.

  • this master's writing is so powerful.

    love it!

  • what kind of paper is that

  • Chinese painting and calligraphy paper.

  • Very beautiful work. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Great lesson

  • Excellent.

  • of course

    I really love it!!!!!

It's just awesome, I wish I can write like him, but I still need a lot of practice. I'm learning japanese but I know that the kanji characters come from chinese and I try to improve the few characters that I know.

I specially liked the character next to the last, Mr. Jiang is great.

  • chees sing Sure

  • chinese calligraphy is such a beautiful writing. why can't english be like that?

  • i love these videos! ty ty

  • Very clear. One can see how it becomes less symmetrical through the ages. Thanks!

  • Very interesting to see the evolution of the character. I really liked it. Thanks!

I really liked it. It is very interresting to see the evolution of one character... But I really wander how a person can read the free style?

  • it is an expressive style. Typically other calligraphers can understand it. It is like gang calligraphy graffiti tags. Other graffiti artists learn to read the signs.

  • wow... nice

  • i can't understand the very last part... i mean i can't read the charCTER WELL

  • you need to work on your manners.

  • Another wonderful video!

  • really???

  • Wow. I'm a little late seeing this video, but what a treat! Not only seeing how the character has developed, but written so beautifully! Such control, so strong yet so sure. Mr. Jiang, yanghaiying, thank you very much for sharing.

  • This is beautiful!!! I will practice more thank you for sharing :)

  • Hello Haiying,

I am wondering how did seal carving style develope? Or is it similar to one of these?

  • beautiful :)

  • So beautiful!

  • Oh, and I like the 行署 style best. Readable and artistic in one, really a perfect combination.

  • Oh, heheh I understood what he said when he got up. --> 看一看 "Take a look."

  • Just that???!!!

  • No, but I really like the way it's said in Chinese.

  • LOL sry for commenting on a year old post, but I just wanted to say it literally means: look one look.

It just sounded so funny when I said it to myself. :D

  • If anyone is interested in the development of those characters I recommend reading a book by Cecilia Lindqvist called: "China: Empire of Living Symbols"

It's really good and incredibly interesting. It explains how those pictographs developed into the characters we know these days. It explains about the oracle bones and lots of other stuff as well.

  • wow! i didn't know that the chinese leters deeloped out of simpel images!

thanks for sharing this one! ^^

  • oops...hit that twice. Sorry about that, but I do mean it :-)I think I like the last'grass style'character the best...the most freedom and movement. Love ballet for our hands!

  • Wonderful....Mr.Jiang is a treasure! as are you Haiying....thank you very much!!!

  • Exactly. I was feeling that I found a treasure chest!

  • Oh my .... Mr. Jiang is a treasure! as you are too Haiying...that was great!!!!

  • Now that explains a lot! Thank you for these videos.

  • This was fascinating!!

Thanks so much Mr. Jiang. :)
