@44971719785648751978 YES! For the longest time I got really mad at myself too because I lost the bonus dvd that came with it then a few months ago I decided to start another playthrough of it and I was digging around and found the bonus disc too! The collectors edition is just so pretty!
@miiworld2 Vaan was i dont see why people hated him i enjoyed the differance in the protagonists part in all this like vaan to me seems like he was in the wrong place at the wrong time
IKR, mean either, I've gotten pretty far, its just the game is so long that I take long breaks. I've had it since it first came out too, but my dad pawned my play station constantly back in the day. So there's another reason. .__.
@Senfiores I couldn't agree more, Ashe got cheated on her character, seeing as she was just a supporting role but she had the right elements to be the main character, but Vaan should have at most be a supporting character, and not the main.
@cewolfen Once again i will disagree on this point, you need him there to express the realism and the harsh treatment of the empire. Personal motive to fight and hate them, the fact ashe is not a major party member character is just due to the fact the directing team realized what i do. Who wants to play some crazy former princess on a rampage trying to destory every one? I am glad she matured at the end of the game, but come on for most of it you as well as know she was not main character stuff
@akatsukifanboy102 actually Ashe and Balthier WERE the main characters, they just decided, to tell the story from a second character point of view, lets be honest, balthier and ashe are the one that are compleatly needed for the plot to progress, Vann isnt, plus he was the only character i didnt like, he wayyyyyyyy to similar to Tidus from FF-X, which i hate too, because of their both whiny little bitches and annoying!!!
@akechi9 So...You are basing Vaan's opinion off a completely diffrent and unrelated character? How exactly do you pull that one off? anyway why does it matter? Vaan's view point of the story is the important one, ashe was uneeded completely in my opinion yet she was there. Why? Because that is the way they wanted the game to be made, it is a fairly well made game but it of course has flaws. But balthier is a diffrent story, he was fairly intergal due to his family line and connection.
@akatsukifanboy102 i do agree that my hatred for him its a little unreasonable XD, he is just one of those character that you hate..., and its thx of doing everything on vanns point of view that we go hunting and such, but he is just used for that, he could have been changed for anyone else and that wouldnt have change the outcome, we both agree balthier was one of the, if not the most important character for the plot, i mean he has the family and he has the ship, but ashe IS the princess...
@akatsukifanboy102 its thx to her that they are able to do many things, and lets not forgets that BECUASE she is the desendant of the dinasty king that the occuria give her the treaty sword to use on the sun crest, and its thx to her that lord larsa and others actually help you and such, what am trying to say is that those 2 had to be in the game for you to progress, Vaan could have been anyone else and wouldnt have matter
@akechi9 Those details were just added at the last minute to make her seem more important to the plot, and while her blood line is neat i guess it does not really many anything. Many people unrelated to both her and raithwall were able to use the trinkets of the gods,So i really do not see your point. And to the points of larsa, i admit he probably would not have joined on had it not been for ashe, but that was only due to her rank. Vaan gives the game perspective, he gives you a reason to fight
love debates :) i just cant seem to put my ideas in order or use the right words to make it sound smart -.-'' i agree with @HappyPariah that Vaan is indeed a bad choice for a protagonist but he shouldnt be excluded from the story cuz as @akatsukifanboy102 said it gives a sense of realism and emotion to the storyline... but it focuses too much on him. ashe could have had a far better character development.
@Pomme843 Eh... Actually i never found him that attractive really, i mean the graphics made him look like he was a concentration camp escapee not a buff hero. i mean his abs looked like the spray on ones from 300, bash or some of the other male leads were decent to look at. Also, my own personal attraction has little do with me liking a character, just like in reality, looks are only a part of a person.
@yodaman676 Why are people always so quick to judge? I've got a girlfriend, but why does that matter to you? Honestly, if we're going to go assume someone's marital status simply by reading what they've posted on the internet you'd be the first person I'd peg as not having a significant other, what with the name "yodaman 676"
@Senfiores Ironic as i view just the opposite truely, i believed Ashe was fairly useless and as for plot driven characters? They could have had a stick with more personality, while Vaan and Basch both have interesting backstories and lives, you never really learn about ashe's all that much.
@akatsukifanboy102 exactly. ashe's life and backstory lacked interest and depth. maybe if the developers had put her as protagonist we would have had a completely different view of her and we might have had a better understanding of the way she acted... thats in my point of view of course.
maybe basch would have been a good protagonist after all.
@akatsukifanboy102 While Ashe may not have an interesting back story, she is a much more logical protagonist. Since the story revolves around her attempts to restore the throne. Even Balthier would have been a better protagonist. The problem with Vaan and Penelo is that they add precisely nothing to the story, they're orphans who, by dumb luck, get caught up in everything. With the exception of times when you are only Vaan you wouldn't need to change a single scene to cut them out entirely.
@HappyPariah While i understand what you are saying i find it false, i do believe while your opinion has merit that they add depth to the storyline. With them not there, yes it would still be about the same but it would lack much ot the driving force, i mean i hate to bring it up, but the sequel to 12 is just mostly about them.
@akatsukifanboy102 Well a sequel to Devil May Cry focused on a new character, does that mean that the new character was integral to the plot in the first few? It's possible to shift protagonists between games. What driving force, when did they ever add anything to the plot. In fact I can't remember Vaan ever saying anything in major cutscenes beyond reaction shots.
@HappyPariah You yourself brought up what he said in major cutscenes, he talks with ash about the dawn shard several times. Also, Vaan added emotional context to him, he was another person the empire had fucked over and he fought back. He had as much reason to want gabranth dead as ashe.
@akatsukifanboy102 But why must he speak about the dawn shard? Why couldn't Basch or Balthier or ANYONE else have done that? My point is that Vaan as a character is the most illogical choice for protagonist. I would have no problem with him if he were just one of the party members you obtain, along with Penelo. But to make him the main protagonist makes no sense when he has no realistic bearing on the plot.
@HappyPariah I suppose i could agree he is not needed as the main character, but neither in my opinion is ashe or balthier, they both are more secondary party members then anything.
@akatsukifanboy102 Ashe is a much better protagonist, the story revolves around the politics of the world and her quest to restore the throne, she is a very pivotal character, and, given the amount of time that Vaan was given for development, Balthier's internal conflict involving his defiance of his nature as a sky pirate could have been infinitely more appealing and gripping than Vaan's shallow quest for vengeance.
@HappyPariah So you think a crazy woman who wants to restore her kingdom at all costs and a boy who ran away from a life in the army sound better then a tale of revenge? Both are in a away the same, hence why i do not agree, ashe was a war monger if anything for most of the game. Hence why i disagree, i do not find it anymore appealing then vaan's tale, honestly though? I never found ashe all that interesting to be honst, the restoration of her kingdom at any cost seemed jaded to me.
@akatsukifanboy102 So you think an absent minded street rat who is not only naive in matters of the world but in matters of his own life sounds better. See I can radically overblow character flaws as well. What you don't seem to understand is that Ashe being a "warmonger" and Balthier's past is what makes them interesting characters. Having a bunch of mary-sues and gary-stus running around doesn't make for a good story, this isn't an epic poem we're talking about.
@HappyPariah No those flaws, while major are not major enough for me to denounce them, they should be in the game i will be the first to admit liked balthier the moment i saw him. it's just well, princess ashe and him don't seem like anything speical to me, fran and basch have much more deeper and interesting connections to the plot then any one else in my book. But still, i think that vaan adds depth to the story, i mean it's about a group of rebels taking on a empire, you need the farm boy.
@akatsukifanboy102 But you don't need the farm boy, not everything is Star Wars. Even then, keeping with the parallel of Star Wars, Luke was not only one of a dieing order of psychic knights but he was also the son of the big bad evil guy. So in other stories where the farm boy fights an evil empire there's something extraordinary about him, Vaan doesn't fit that, he's normal. Meanwhile Balthier and Ashe have true connections to the events going on.
@HappyPariah Perhaps a more valid connection yes, but vann still has one. Revenge is a valid motive if it was not then ashe's would not be valid either as it is the same for her, Also the fact vaan is so mudune is what impressed me about him. A sheet churl grows up to fight the best of the best of the archadian empire and wins. So i found his commoness a advantage in liking him.
@akatsukifanboy102 Ashe has a deeper connection, being a descendant of the original wielder of the entire basis of the plot, nethicite. I already admitted that Vaan is a valid character concept, I've already said that he is fine in the game, but what he isn't is a protagonist. A story's focus shouldn't be a character whose relate-able but not integral. Vaan has no more a connection to the actual plot than any person in Rabanastre who had a family member die in the war.
@HappyPariah One of the original weilders of the nethicite you mean, and other folks used it quite easily later on. i do not see the point i mean, i found the entire point of the game to remove the stones's worth from the world and with the destruction of the sun crist it ceases to be a issue to me really. Who does it matter whom is related to who? The fact ashe has the blood of raithwall means less then nothing to me, hence why i refute your claim she has a deeper connection to the plot.
@akatsukifanboy102 The entire beginning of the game, after Ashe is added to the party permanently, is going through Raithwall's stuff and taking what we need, specifically the dawn shard and the Sword of Kings. Without Ashe they wouldn't have been able to do that, since the nethicite everyone else used safely was manufactured. When Ghis tried to use the dawn shard it was too powerful and it ended up destroying the entire fleet.
@akatsukifanboy102 Now, let me continue the parallel between Star Wars, since it is so apt. If I were to take Luke and take away his possibility of becoming a Jedi, then changed this history to remove his blood relation to Vader, instead making Obi Wan's story true that Vader simply killed his father, who would have a deeper connection to what is going on: Luke or Leia? Do you understand what I am getting at with this?
@HappyPariah Ghis was a idiot and throwa unknown stone into his ship's engine, it had nothing to do with blood as um well i do not think judges related to raithwall. and reddas used the midlight shard quite effectively to, and as did ghis in his rather limited way. so basically all you saying is, she is related some distant king and can use a stone slightly better then some one else, and that makes her the main focus of the plot? I completely disagree with such logic.
@akatsukifanboy102 Let's start with this then: What is the plot? What is the focus of the events going on in the world as a whole? The focus is on Archadia's expansionist war. The plot is... basically every FF plot ever, collect crystals, kill BBEG. Who has a closer relation to the events? A street rat in a city affected, or the dethroned princess of a nation that is affected? Then we go to the plot: Who has a closer relation to it? A street rat or the descendant of the first user of the stones?
@HappyPariah First known user actually, and i still think vaan adds a multi lateral view to the game, Ashe could have but she had such a limited role in the game. She never really even talked about what would happen if she ever did regain the throne, maybe the reason i disagree with you so much is, that she never truely explained why she was in the plot! She was a member of the resistance, she was a former princess, she has ties to the storyline but she has no real motive. she was too limited.
@akatsukifanboy102 It doesn't matter if someone random person sometime in the past of Ivalice used them previously, Raithwall is the first user in the history that is necessary to know. She wasn't given much time because Square made the foolish decision of focusing on Vaan and extrapolating his story needlessly when Ashe would have had a much more integral part in the plot given the right position in the cast.
@HappyPariah So you now abandon logic and go to what ifs? I do believe the debate is over and i still remain unconvinced that vaan was a inferior character to ashe. and i fear i will remain unconvinced dear freind. Our views on this game are two diffrent to agree upon i feel, i find vaan a needed touch, he adds realism to it, the eyes of a common person is thrust upon the world. which i think is a touch better then some snobby princess whom only dirtied her blade out of stupidity.
@akatsukifanboy102 Hypothetical situations ARE logic, maybe you should learn a thing or two about logical debate. Regardless of who you FEEL was the more integral character, there's is simply no argument that between Ashe and Vaan, Ashe is more important to the plot.
@HappyPariah Ashe may be slightly more linked to it directly, but that does make her anymore important then any other party member. she simply is closer to it, Logically speaking anyway. ._. I do know plenty of about debate my freind, having been in several over a few issues.
@akatsukifanboy102 I think you've forgotten the topic of this discussion. I was trying to show you that Ashe and Balthier had a closer connection to the story, thus were more logical protagonists. Seeing as you've just conceded my premise to me, I think this is pretty much over, unless you'd like to retract that statement?
@HappyPariah I admit that you were correct in your statement that she is more linked to the plot which i never denied, this entire debate was whether or not she was main character material. which i still think she would not be, she just lacks the emotional depth and interest factor that vaan has, i mean he has the strange mixture of childish naive attidude and lethal combat skill. He grows more as a character then any other party member in the game.
@akatsukifanboy102 Being a better developed character doesn't make them a more logical protagonist. If a character has almost nothing to do with what is going on there's no reason for the story to focus on them. As I've also said before, the reason Ashe isn't as developed as Vaan is because she ISN'T the protagonist, while he is. They focus on him so we end up learning more about him, while Ashe is kept peripheral.
@HappyPariah No more so then ashe's would be, basically with ff 12 i do believe vaan is not the best choice for the main character BUT he is far from the WORST either.
@akatsukifanboy102 Well definitely, he's not the worst, Fran or Penelo would be the worst, but Basch, Ashe, and Balthier would all make far better protagonists
It's pretty interesting that while FFXII's main cast was pretty lacking, it had some of the best villains in the series (And the best Cid). Meanwhile, so much effort was put into FFXIII's main cast, and yet that game had some of the worst villains in the series bar none (and the worst Cid). Odd, that.
The order of the judges and their leaders where perhaps the best group of enemies i have fought in final fantasy in years. 12 Really was a underated game, when it truely was perhaps one of the better ones in the series, much better then the one that came before it anyway. And the villians are why it is that good, It had the judges had the top of this faceless horde, and empire seemingly seemed unbeatable even until the very last second when you defeated vayne. It was a extremely well done game.
@akatsukifanboy102 in FFXI's defence, i believe FFVII - DOC was before 12. And 11 was amazing, 12 was unrated because if had Vaan, I'm pretty sure the world is sick of blonde little kids at this point now...Vaan, Naruto, Justin Beiber. Someone fucking kill me. Further more his outfit didn't help. It made him look like a male prostitute. The graphics were pretty and all but it was way to easy to lvl after you found out where to.
I hate it when people say that only Nobuo Uematsu can make a good Final Fantasy soundtrack. I thought that FFXII had an amazing soundtrack, possibly one of the best in the series.
@1993TRS1 I must say I did not like this soundtrack at first, but after I've played the game over, I actually liked it. I've placed it just below FFIX's soundtrack. (Which is my favourite)
That is just people who THINK that they are FF purists. Its stupid, but people really hate change. Thats why so many people hate FF13 for really stupid reasons.
@1993TRS1 alot of the songs in XII were directly based on Uematsu's style however, the composer for this game even admitted it himself. Hey, no easy feat, kudos to him for doing that!
I always thought Ghis was a crap judge, probably got in on political standings alone. Even in this picture he's looking over the shoulders of better judges. Also, he was a bit of a dumbass.
I love empire songs. FF12 is too underrated and fans need to grow a pair and get over it. It's called variety! Square Enix did something good and they for once didn't consult the idiots fanboys! Again, grow a pair and stop crying!
@omegasoldier382 Well, they did push Basch out of the role of protagonist in favour of Vaan (even create Vaan in the first place) to rope in the fans that dig the young bishie type of hero rather than the rather more mature, rugged Basch.
Although it's debatable whether Vaan really is that much of a protagonist here...
Some parts of this song really remind me of FF9 for some reason, like at 2:00.
Good tune, good game. (Not the best one for me, but it was still a decent game. Soundtrack is a bit lacking, imo, but still some awesome songs in there)
@Hackmoune Uematsu assisted in composing this song and the opening theme, which is technically the theme for Final Fantasy in its entirety. Hitoshi Sakimoto was Uematsu's assistant in previous games and by all means, his apprentice. Sakimoto was chosen to orchestrate this game because he was the best educated with the ways of Uematsu's composition and the uses of an orchestra. Uematsu himself made many contributions and virtually oversaw the entire soundtrack's production.
@KHorbust nope, its just im an old school fan, and i love Uematsu´s themes for old FF games. I dont like this new shit (i hate Square-Enix) but whatever im not going to argue with you now, i dont wanna fight, im in fight - off, so good luck dude
I've actually never played the game for any longer than three hours at a friend's place. Still, I've listened to this so much I feel nostalgia when rehearing it. Completely underrated. So well-orchestrated.
-Drace had the potential to be a good character but was cheaply killed off. T.T
-Guise...I felt like he was an idiot and I had strong urge to kill him way before fighting him...hmm, maybe cause I had to run all over his damn ship with limited save crystals!
-Bergan said some stuff that should have had the gods trying to strike him down with lightning bolts of Justice.
-Zargabaath and Zeckt, Their Bravery and chivalry earn them gold stars in my book. c:
@Masz52 no youre not a sham. Because i like unfairness. VICTORY FOR THE EMPIRE WE KILL ALL ENEMYS.ENEMYS=SCUM AND THE ENEMYS OF THE EMPIRE ARE ALL OTHERS
[[the judge to the farthest left looks like one of those statues with a big nose -- the 2nd judge beside big nose looks like a smashed ostrich -- the judge in the middle looks like a storm trooper -- the judge the behind storm trooper looks like some kinda dragon head floating behind them -- and the last judge looks like that flaming beast (belroth?) in LOTR.]] sorry i forgot all their names!! XD its been a long time since i played FFXII
There names are Zargabaath, Bergan, Gabranth, Ghis and Drace. From left to right :P I think you never played this great game, because if you did you would never forget this names XD
Eh, you only kill two judges, and one didn't really die because of you..He died because of his testing the nethicite in the reactor of the Leviathan like a moron. One is killed by Gabranth, Bergen dies because of his nethicite laced bones overburdened his body, due to the fight with you. And Noah, actually dies to Vayne, not because of you. Still, in the International Version the fight where you fight them all is incredibly fun.
The game is several years old, and other people have posted far worse spoilers than I have posted. Grow up and post something useful aside from a snide insult you incessant child.

The judges would have to be the most intimidating enemies I have ever come across in all my years of gaming.
They don't look incredibly obscure.
They aren't nightmare fuel.
They just stare at you, with whatever small dark voids fill the space where their eyes should be.
And then they fight you.
And it is the most fulfilling battle of your life.
Knowing that your party, five strong, is on par with one lone soldier, not a gigantic dragon.
Long live the Empire.

But balthier is a diffrent story, he was fairly intergal due to his family line and connection.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 i do agree that my hatred for him its a little unreasonable XD, he is just one of those character that you hate..., and its thx of doing everything on vanns point of view that we go hunting and such, but he is just used for that, he could have been changed for anyone else and that wouldnt have change the outcome, we both agree balthier was one of the, if not the most important character for the plot, i mean he has the family and he has the ship, but ashe IS the princess...
akechi9 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 its thx to her that they are able to do many things, and lets not forgets that BECUASE she is the desendant of the dinasty king that the occuria give her the treaty sword to use on the sun crest, and its thx to her that lord larsa and others actually help you and such, what am trying to say is that those 2 had to be in the game for you to progress, Vaan could have been anyone else and wouldnt have matter
akechi9 1 year ago

Also, my own personal attraction has little do with me liking a character, just like in reality, looks are only a part of a person.

the worst thing the developers could have done was putting vaan as protagonist.
i dont dislike him but the role just doesnt fit him, nor does Basch in my point of view.
maybe balthier or ashe but not vaan -.-
Senfiores 1 year ago
@Senfiores Ironic as i view just the opposite truely, i believed Ashe was fairly useless and as for plot driven characters? They could have had a stick with more personality, while Vaan and Basch both have interesting backstories and lives, you never really learn about ashe's all that much.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 exactly. ashe's life and backstory lacked interest and depth. maybe if the developers had put her as protagonist we would have had a completely different view of her and we might have had a better understanding of the way she acted... thats in my point of view of course.
maybe basch would have been a good protagonist after all.
*srry my bad english* :)
Senfiores 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 While Ashe may not have an interesting back story, she is a much more logical protagonist. Since the story revolves around her attempts to restore the throne. Even Balthier would have been a better protagonist. The problem with Vaan and Penelo is that they add precisely nothing to the story, they're orphans who, by dumb luck, get caught up in everything. With the exception of times when you are only Vaan you wouldn't need to change a single scene to cut them out entirely.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah While i understand what you are saying i find it false, i do believe while your opinion has merit that they add depth to the storyline. With them not there, yes it would still be about the same but it would lack much ot the driving force, i mean i hate to bring it up, but the sequel to 12 is just mostly about them.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Well a sequel to Devil May Cry focused on a new character, does that mean that the new character was integral to the plot in the first few? It's possible to shift protagonists between games. What driving force, when did they ever add anything to the plot. In fact I can't remember Vaan ever saying anything in major cutscenes beyond reaction shots.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah You yourself brought up what he said in major cutscenes, he talks with ash about the dawn shard several times. Also, Vaan added emotional context to him, he was another person the empire had fucked over and he fought back. He had as much reason to want gabranth dead as ashe.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 But why must he speak about the dawn shard? Why couldn't Basch or Balthier or ANYONE else have done that? My point is that Vaan as a character is the most illogical choice for protagonist. I would have no problem with him if he were just one of the party members you obtain, along with Penelo. But to make him the main protagonist makes no sense when he has no realistic bearing on the plot.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah I suppose i could agree he is not needed as the main character, but neither in my opinion is ashe or balthier, they both are more secondary party members then anything.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Ashe is a much better protagonist, the story revolves around the politics of the world and her quest to restore the throne, she is a very pivotal character, and, given the amount of time that Vaan was given for development, Balthier's internal conflict involving his defiance of his nature as a sky pirate could have been infinitely more appealing and gripping than Vaan's shallow quest for vengeance.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah So you think a crazy woman who wants to restore her kingdom at all costs and a boy who ran away from a life in the army sound better then a tale of revenge? Both are in a away the same, hence why i do not agree, ashe was a war monger if anything for most of the game. Hence why i disagree, i do not find it anymore appealing then vaan's tale, honestly though? I never found ashe all that interesting to be honst, the restoration of her kingdom at any cost seemed jaded to me.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 So you think an absent minded street rat who is not only naive in matters of the world but in matters of his own life sounds better. See I can radically overblow character flaws as well. What you don't seem to understand is that Ashe being a "warmonger" and Balthier's past is what makes them interesting characters. Having a bunch of mary-sues and gary-stus running around doesn't make for a good story, this isn't an epic poem we're talking about.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah No those flaws, while major are not major enough for me to denounce them, they should be in the game i will be the first to admit liked balthier the moment i saw him. it's just well, princess ashe and him don't seem like anything speical to me, fran and basch have much more deeper and interesting connections to the plot then any one else in my book. But still, i think that vaan adds depth to the story, i mean it's about a group of rebels taking on a empire, you need the farm boy.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 But you don't need the farm boy, not everything is Star Wars. Even then, keeping with the parallel of Star Wars, Luke was not only one of a dieing order of psychic knights but he was also the son of the big bad evil guy. So in other stories where the farm boy fights an evil empire there's something extraordinary about him, Vaan doesn't fit that, he's normal. Meanwhile Balthier and Ashe have true connections to the events going on.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah Perhaps a more valid connection yes, but vann still has one. Revenge is a valid motive if it was not then ashe's would not be valid either as it is the same for her, Also the fact vaan is so mudune is what impressed me about him. A sheet churl grows up to fight the best of the best of the archadian empire and wins. So i found his commoness a advantage in liking him.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Ashe has a deeper connection, being a descendant of the original wielder of the entire basis of the plot, nethicite. I already admitted that Vaan is a valid character concept, I've already said that he is fine in the game, but what he isn't is a protagonist. A story's focus shouldn't be a character whose relate-able but not integral. Vaan has no more a connection to the actual plot than any person in Rabanastre who had a family member die in the war.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah One of the original weilders of the nethicite you mean, and other folks used it quite easily later on. i do not see the point i mean, i found the entire point of the game to remove the stones's worth from the world and with the destruction of the sun crist it ceases to be a issue to me really. Who does it matter whom is related to who? The fact ashe has the blood of raithwall means less then nothing to me, hence why i refute your claim she has a deeper connection to the plot.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 The entire beginning of the game, after Ashe is added to the party permanently, is going through Raithwall's stuff and taking what we need, specifically the dawn shard and the Sword of Kings. Without Ashe they wouldn't have been able to do that, since the nethicite everyone else used safely was manufactured. When Ghis tried to use the dawn shard it was too powerful and it ended up destroying the entire fleet.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Now, let me continue the parallel between Star Wars, since it is so apt. If I were to take Luke and take away his possibility of becoming a Jedi, then changed this history to remove his blood relation to Vader, instead making Obi Wan's story true that Vader simply killed his father, who would have a deeper connection to what is going on: Luke or Leia? Do you understand what I am getting at with this?
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah Ghis was a idiot and throwa unknown stone into his ship's engine, it had nothing to do with blood as um well i do not think judges related to raithwall. and reddas used the midlight shard quite effectively to, and as did ghis in his rather limited way. so basically all you saying is, she is related some distant king and can use a stone slightly better then some one else, and that makes her the main focus of the plot? I completely disagree with such logic.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Let's start with this then: What is the plot? What is the focus of the events going on in the world as a whole? The focus is on Archadia's expansionist war. The plot is... basically every FF plot ever, collect crystals, kill BBEG. Who has a closer relation to the events? A street rat in a city affected, or the dethroned princess of a nation that is affected? Then we go to the plot: Who has a closer relation to it? A street rat or the descendant of the first user of the stones?
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah First known user actually, and i still think vaan adds a multi lateral view to the game, Ashe could have but she had such a limited role in the game. She never really even talked about what would happen if she ever did regain the throne, maybe the reason i disagree with you so much is, that she never truely explained why she was in the plot! She was a member of the resistance, she was a former princess, she has ties to the storyline but she has no real motive. she was too limited.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 It doesn't matter if someone random person sometime in the past of Ivalice used them previously, Raithwall is the first user in the history that is necessary to know. She wasn't given much time because Square made the foolish decision of focusing on Vaan and extrapolating his story needlessly when Ashe would have had a much more integral part in the plot given the right position in the cast.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah So you now abandon logic and go to what ifs? I do believe the debate is over and i still remain unconvinced that vaan was a inferior character to ashe. and i fear i will remain unconvinced dear freind. Our views on this game are two diffrent to agree upon i feel, i find vaan a needed touch, he adds realism to it, the eyes of a common person is thrust upon the world. which i think is a touch better then some snobby princess whom only dirtied her blade out of stupidity.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Hypothetical situations ARE logic, maybe you should learn a thing or two about logical debate. Regardless of who you FEEL was the more integral character, there's is simply no argument that between Ashe and Vaan, Ashe is more important to the plot.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah Ashe may be slightly more linked to it directly, but that does make her anymore important then any other party member. she simply is closer to it, Logically speaking anyway. ._. I do know plenty of about debate my freind, having been in several over a few issues.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 I think you've forgotten the topic of this discussion. I was trying to show you that Ashe and Balthier had a closer connection to the story, thus were more logical protagonists. Seeing as you've just conceded my premise to me, I think this is pretty much over, unless you'd like to retract that statement?
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah I admit that you were correct in your statement that she is more linked to the plot which i never denied, this entire debate was whether or not she was main character material. which i still think she would not be, she just lacks the emotional depth and interest factor that vaan has, i mean he has the strange mixture of childish naive attidude and lethal combat skill. He grows more as a character then any other party member in the game.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Being a better developed character doesn't make them a more logical protagonist. If a character has almost nothing to do with what is going on there's no reason for the story to focus on them. As I've also said before, the reason Ashe isn't as developed as Vaan is because she ISN'T the protagonist, while he is. They focus on him so we end up learning more about him, while Ashe is kept peripheral.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah Exactly, which is why i still think that she or any one else can not match him.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 But you have to understand that Vaan's status as the main character is completely artificial.
HappyPariah 1 year ago
@HappyPariah No more so then ashe's would be, basically with ff 12 i do believe vaan is not the best choice for the main character BUT he is far from the WORST either.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago
@akatsukifanboy102 Well definitely, he's not the worst, Fran or Penelo would be the worst, but Basch, Ashe, and Balthier would all make far better protagonists
HappyPariah 1 year ago
It's pretty interesting that while FFXII's main cast was pretty lacking, it had some of the best villains in the series (And the best Cid). Meanwhile, so much effort was put into FFXIII's main cast, and yet that game had some of the worst villains in the series bar none (and the worst Cid). Odd, that.
MechaX 1 year ago
The order of the judges and their leaders where perhaps the best group of enemies i have fought in final fantasy in years. 12 Really was a underated game, when it truely was perhaps one of the better ones in the series, much better then the one that came before it anyway. And the villians are why it is that good, It had the judges had the top of this faceless horde, and empire seemingly seemed unbeatable even until the very last second when you defeated vayne. It was a extremely well done game.
akatsukifanboy102 1 year ago 3
@akatsukifanboy102 in FFXI's defence, i believe FFVII - DOC was before 12. And 11 was amazing, 12 was unrated because if had Vaan, I'm pretty sure the world is sick of blonde little kids at this point now...Vaan, Naruto, Justin Beiber. Someone fucking kill me. Further more his outfit didn't help. It made him look like a male prostitute. The graphics were pretty and all but it was way to easy to lvl after you found out where to.

So, Hackmoune, STFU.
