I saw this exact tour two days prior, 2 June 1990, in Houston. They hate Texas, but they were kind enough to play fantastically and return for a double encore. That was when the Blue Aeroplanes opened for them. ". . . and Stones" was their big single then.
Was never lucky enough to see The Church live, but when this album came out I must have listened to it at least twice a day for weeks on end. Brings back some memories. Thanks for sharing.
Man, I can't believe you have this video! I saw them on the Gold Afternoon Fix tour in Atlanta when I was a sophomore in high school. I'm sure the Atlanta show was either right before or right after this NC footage. I've seen them live about six times since 1990, including a show in New Orleans shortly after Katrina. The Church is one of the most underrated bands of all time, and were/are incredible live. Thanks for a uploading something I thought existed only in my memory.
Kilbey is a poet and the music the most suggestive I´ve listened to in many ways... specially STARFISH & GOLD AFTERNOON FIX Albums... F.i. GRIND, HOTEL WOMB,DESTINATION,PHARAOH
The strength of the song still comes through though! Great stuff; underrated song from an underrated album . . . as for what "the deal" may have been, see the comments under (the generous and musically astute) kurt2112's posting of "Reptile" from the same show. Wonder what Kilbey was saying to Peter at the end of this clip though!
I dont think things were going that well after Gold Afternoon Fix Tour. They were tired and a bit bored with the music and touring I think. I really think this clip shows the strain....
I want to see them live too :( , fuck ocesa!!!

Their new album, Untitled #23, is brilliant. Touring the states in June and July!

Damn it I miss music like this in 2007. That perfume makes me think of grief!

great shots, wonderful footage, yes the sound could be better but with headphones on I can make it all out all right.
I've heard various things about this show but between Marty's demeanor and the audio clips on your site I'd love to know what the deal was. Any idea?
