I think its amazing to see a terriers instinct kick in . My moms got a fat old jack russel 12 years old all pampered . The other week she had a rat in her bin . I couldnt believe the dog it was like one again. It went ballistic to get the rat my mom freaked so i had to finish the rat wit a shovel before the dog did.

daft twat.. have you ever set foot in the countryside, let alone lived there?? rats are vermin which carry diseases which are dangerous to livestock and humans, they kill poultry and they eat and piss in grain and food stores on farms, also eat crops. next time you open that nice Waitrose packaged bit of meat or your vegan corn burger, bear that in mind. Those rats are coming to a very swift death, unlike a fox hunt. If rats are not kept in check they breed into hundreds in weeks. & plague???

ferrets can hold there own but you get agressive doe rats all year round since they breed through the winter in alot of places, ferrets dont mind it, they live for it, but its just a bit savage since they take alot more of a beating than a terrier if it comes down to it.

rats carry o lot of disease so the dogs aren't allow to eat them,of course the rat bites,evan a mouse "bites" the cat in his struggle to survive,i'm not shure if they cand catch diseases if their bitten,but they do if they eat them,pigs get a disease (i don't know its name in english,only in romanian :) from rats if they eat them(yes,sometimes pigs eat rats)

ok tip for you if u smoke em out. block most of the holes.... rats will bolt from open holes.yer...then the dogs can mark areas then dig a bit.also ur dogs need to kill & drop...i work terriers in NE uk..around newcastle.. great sport... unless you get bit .lol...

i really admire patterdale terriers, not some "kennel club" recognized dog. they can put their pedigree paper up in their dog's #@*. these breed is the real hallmark of all terrier, coz other terrier is already ruined coz of these "kennel clubs" (e.g lakeland, border and jack russell) trying to standardize them. dog show is different from field work. Fell terrier is the real hardcore! happy hunting mikey!

thats because your rat terriers in the usa are basically a mish mash of many different english terrier breeds these are patterdales mostly and they are terriers with attitude. i got as litter due in a few weeks anyone interested
