  • wooow, sounds like a prehistoric htc :) go and take a look at android! 10 times more like a pandora... come on 450€dann only for analog sticks? Kiddy

  • @sukhi2000

so basically its a little computer tht u can bring everywhere?

  • @STATIKFY like a mini laptop

  • Pandora is an game console/micro pc in one system.

The pandora can play emulators, opensource pc comercial games, firefox browser, email client, remote desktop, network, dual sc card slot plus qwerty keyboard and gaming controls inc 2 analog sticks, gaming buttons and d-pad are best of any system the analog sticks are nearly perfect as n64 controllers and above all starfox 64 on mupen64plus emulator is awesome plays like a dream on pandora (oh yeah).

  • Can you put out a video of dosbox's performance? Even my 700mhz G4 emac has a hard time keeping up with a lot of the early dos games like Commander Keen, the original duke nukem (not 3d), jill of the jungle, etc. I am very much considering buying one (I already own a gp32 and a gp2x), but I have to be gaining a lot over the game park machines to put out 330 for this.

  • 500 US its a joke right ? OMG twice a 3ds not even NGP will be that expensive

  • I don't think that you got the best keyboard set up at all our can't you change it?

  • I wanna know if I can play games in HD

  • omg super tux= mario!

  • the only reason i would buy it is because you can play N64 games ;)

  • I KNEW sonic would be played :]

  • Are u guys making more? 8000 isnt much :/

  • coool super tux!

  • Is there any real good native 3d game for the pandora without being emulated???

  • 5:29 super pinguin!

  • quake 3????? nice!!!

    great job

and in rest, i mean oll game consoles... i am not interested

  • Why is there a nicely powerful handheld gaming system out there that I haven't heard of?

  • semi transparent pandora look sexy... I'll probably get one some batches later until errors hardware flaws reported fixed by the earlier batch.

  • this is shit sorry

  • !BOLLOCKS!

  • I like where this is going, but what I really want to know is what original games will there be for this system?

  • entonces debe estar casi a la par en potencia con el nintendo 3ds

  • @dragonblood0009 It overpases it....

  • Yeah, I wanna see the extent of the pandora's potential. Quake and final fantasy are pretty cool. I wonder if people are willing to make an original action RPG for this...

  • pandora makers, don't fret if initial release is slow, everyone just want's to see its potential

  • Does anyone knows if the Pandora will run Unreal Tournament???

  • @darkblackspawn Oh man! I hope it does. Thinking it should be able to though.

  • I like the ending XD "BOLLACKS!!!!"

  • Would this run tremulous?

  • @klingerman11 I did some research on it (not to familiar with Quake 3 mods) and saw that there is a Linux version and the Pandora is Linux-based, so if it's a Quake 3 mod for Linux and Pandora can run Quake 3 I'm sure it's possible. If not you could ask the creators to port it. I'm sure if enough people requested it be ported and the Pandora team sent them one it could be ported.

  • @klingerman11 If it is a quake 3 mod :) Hmm, maybe even halo 1 on FF.

  • favorite part of the whole video

    6:09

  • Does this support DirectX?

  • I am unsure, but it may be able to play Windows games (and DirectX) via Wine. Alternatively you could possibly use an emulator such as Qemu.

  • Nope, Wine requires an x86 processor.

  • @saijeehiguchi It's based on Linux ;-)

    This should answer your question..

  • Nope, still don't get it, I've never handled Linux before, so I don't know anything about it. So was it a yes or a no?

By the way, why did I get thumbs downed? Was it really that dumb of a question? (not saying it was you ... unless it was (kidding of course))

  • @saijeehiguchi This means that it doesn't suppoert DirectX ;)

    Just SDL (and I guess OpenGL)-Support ^^

to play directx-games you'll need an emulator and I think for "wine" (emu) this handheld is a little bit slow ^^.

    (sry for bad english)

  • Minesweeper...BULLOX!!!!!!!!! XD

  • minesweeper bullox gotta be my favorite game too lawl

  • @rsuryase

why should i not get the gp2x wiz?

  • because the company will release a faster handheld next year. not a lot of emu on the wiz now. most emus are on gp2x.

  • @matrixman339 because its not as powerful and also mine broke after about a month so dont bother

  • i was looking at alot of reviews for the gp2x and was gonna get one then i saw this, should i wait for this or just get the gp2x?

  • Get GP2X F-100 or F-200, not The Wiz. GP2X emulates all 16bit sysytems. Pandora will probably be 1 more year of wait for mass production, then 2 more years of wait for emulators development. By then, there will be a new GP2X which will be just as fast as the Pandora.

  • @rsuryase: The production is slow, but a lot of the emulators like GB and PS1 are already running fine on prototypes. Software won't be a bottleneck for the Pandora.

  • Get the F-100 instead of F-200, the touchscreen makes emu slower.

  • id be more inclined to buy this if it had more support from developers. Unfortunately, it seems all the big name devs will stick with big name consoles. Also, lol at all the sony haters. Dont get me wrong xbox was great, but ps2 had what really counts, the best games.

  • Well all good but somehow due to its size i loose to see a point in this. I will always support linux scene and everything whats opensource dont get me wrong. This thing costs circa 280£ in uk. For this money you can have netbook which will do just that and more. Am i wrong?

  • The Xbox was the most powerful console of the last generation. It was in that World Record Book.

  • Please tell me what consoles this handheld can emulate. And tell me how powerful it is in general too if you don't mind. =)

  • If you'd just gone to the site mention in the video you could've found that information there.

  • im going to play my favoite game minesweeper......BOLLOX lol

  • i will buy this

  • @makan95 I won't its like £280, far too expensive, if it ever drops to say £130-150 then yeah I will buy instantly, but 280 is far too much for a 600 mhz arm processor, and you can't compare it to say a DS or PSP cos they have full multi million pound budgets to support their hardware.

  • @Exesta yea good idea this things gonna flop so hard

  • How much does it cost? And also is it fast?

  • it will cost 330$

  • It's faster than the PSP by a large margin. It has 256MB of RAM and will be able to do movies and Internet easily.

  • hey, pandora haves ds emulator?

or is the same as linux ds emu.

  • No. It doesn't have a DS emulator, and just because it's on Linux doesn't mean it will work on the Pandora because of various things. And by work, I mean not even open.

  • aaa ok

  • 60 days till christmas...

  • for the price you pay for it you can get a laptop

  • and a ds and a psp and a wii and a 360 but thats not the point imagine playing zdoom at the bus stop thats the point this thing can very well be worth it if you have taste in home brew games and older games like quake or daggerfall

  • Great.

I was showing my dad this video so I could temp him into letting me preorder it, and then at the end "BOLLOCKS!"

  • Didn't he see the humor?

  • lol retard

  • seeing as the graphics chip (HYDRA) being used for the psp2 has just been confirmed as being SLIGHTLY more powerful than the first Xbox gpu and seeing as its also been confirmed that the PSP2 is already in development it seems you are the retard lol.

  • "Now I'm going to play one of MY favorite games: Minesweeper.

    ...BOLLOCKS!"

    Ahh, my favorite part. XD

Yes, yes; I am a man of simple pleasures. :P

  • Oh and folks, don't argue here over what it can and can't emulate. There's a nice pandora homepage, wiki and forums that really answers most questions.

  • I saw a bit of lag which may be quake loading textures to card. Since sgx uses such a wonky compressed texture that takes longer than ideal. Maybe sgx can preload all the textures it needs? (dunno how much mem that is). Might solve the problem - cheers

  • How does the D-pad and game buttons feel on this? I would hate for this to do all these things and fail on those two bits.

  • thanks for the video!

seeing the gameplay and how it works is new for me, so far you were only able to see prototypes.

the 3D parts int this video look really good,

makes me want to have one!

  • Go for it.

  • Comment removed

  • you sir is a noob

  • LOL, dumb ass! They can hardly even emulate that on a super powerful PC, let alone one of those systems! It's supposed to be a handheld system for classic gaming. Xbox, PS2, and Gcube are not considered "Classic" ROFL You're a fucking idiot,.

  • Im sorry but i agree with ASHENCLONE, unless it can emulate Sega Saturn/N64 and mabee Dreamcast & Gamecube then i think il pass.

  • Just as much of a fucking idiot as Ashenclone then I guess. Seriously, they can only BARELY emulate Gamecube and Dreamcast. The scene just has not come up with a way to emulate those systems, and that's even on some crazy modern day computers with highly advanced hardware. So if you are passing because you think there is something out there that CAN emulate these systems, you are kidding yourself. Sega Staurn can be emulated, but not on a portable like this. N64 as well.

  • i can get nearly playable framerates of FF12 using pcsx2 on my dual core 1.8ghz laptop and thats with a resolution of 1024X768. Handhelds have much lower resolution and thus would require less hardware. I reckon the PSP2 when it comes out in mabee 18 months time will be powerful enough to do it.

  • It's not all about the resolution. Really, the graphics are of very little concern when emulating a game console. Most of the effort goes into emulating the CPU(s) and support chips and firmware, and a lower resolution won't make those emulate any faster.

  • @cyborgtroy

True. But I guess with lower resolution a lower demand is placed on the virtual system which might make it faster...

Altough, you might not even notice any change in speed...

    Anyways ME WANTS PANDORA!

  • There is a dev who been working "behind the scene" with a N64 emu and he come a long way. So the Pandora will have a n64 emulator

  • You want it to emulate Gamecube? On a handheld? Do you have any idea how powerful a pc you need in order to run a fluid Gamecube emulator? Muppet.

  • Well at least Sega Saturn & N64 emulation

  • It can emulate the n64. It can emulate it faster than the psp.

  • Of course the PSP is 2003/04 technology. But when the PSP2 comes out in 12-18 months it will be more powerful than the XBOX.

  • The psp2 hasn't been confirmed! The Pandora is coming out in December.

  • Ahuh, dude I'm pretty sure my toaster is more powerful than my xbox xD

  • only 2 CONSOLES are more powerful than XBOX. They are the XBOX360 & PS3 xD

  • I dunno dawg, I'm pretty sure the PS2- fuck, probably even the GameCube were more powerful than the xbox.

And I'm also pretty sure that consoles from companies responsible for issues that have titles like 'Red Ring of Death' and 'Blue Screen of Death' probably aren't that great. lmao

  • Yes, most definitely sony's PS2... no... :/ Xbox was far ahead in power than the PS2, Gamecube? Maaaybe...

  • the ps2 was the least powerful system of the 3 systems.

  • ahhh. nope if you go by specs it will show you.

xbox had a 733mhz or 766mhz custom based Plll cpu, 64mb ram, a custom nvidia GPU running at 233mhz.

the ps2 has a cpu running at 298mhz mips based, a co processer running at 150mhz, 32mb ram, a GPU running at 147mhz.

the gamecube has a custom PPC G3 based cpu running at 486mhz, 43mb ram, and a ati GPU running at 162mhz.

  • the Ps2 was the least powerful of the 3 consoles of last gen, the gamecube was the 2nd fastest (yes it was more powerful then the ps2).

  • the reason the PSP can emulate the n64 is because the psp shares a mips cpu, so the psp dont have to fully emulate the n64s cpu. plus your not taking into account that daedalusx64 isnt really using the psps second CPU the ME. The pandora will have to fully emulate the n64s CPU because its a diffrent architecture then a mips CPU so it wont be as easy for it to do as it is for the psp. and remember daedalusx64 is still beta

  • All im saying is dont buy this, wait for the PSP2 which will be a better all round handheld. Yes it may not have even be announced but wait for it anyways as its not far away.

  • @SAMTHEMANTHATCAN

The only way i will buy a psp2 (that is if they decide to even make one) is if it is allot more powerful then the PSP and have dual thumb nubs.

but that isnt stopping me from buying a open pandora. you know why, who knows how far off the PSP2 is, that is if it ever comes.

  • BALLOCKS!!

BTW Can you put like GTA 3 on it?

  • I would think so, but maybe some awesome homebrew developer can make a gta clone!

  • You should encourage Apex Designs to release Payback for this device as well as the Wiz... They did it for the GP2x

  • im gonna research Payback and then go on some forums and open handhelds and see if they can port it

  • Its an awesome game, I used to have it on my Amiga

  • Cant wait for this it looks like it going to be great!!

  • could be a very cool miniature quake 3 computer

a port of GTA III and HL1 and CS would most likely run. It seems to have the same capabilities as my Aspire one

  • In capabilities is totally possible (GTA III would have to be a little cut in distance drawing and low poly meshes), but the main problem is that those games are for x86, and as far as i know they are not open sorce to be ported to Pandora... but near identical clones are entirelly in possibilities realm..

  • hl1 uses gold source which is a heavily modified version of the quake 2 engine. So yeah id say so and cs, and maybe gta 3 idk

  • I cant wait to use a device around the size of a DS that is capable of this type of graphical prowess!

hopefully it will go commercial before the ARM chips are no longer bleeding edge...

  • i hope it actually has new games... Not that i hate roms but...all these companies are slowly taking them off the internet, i cant even find super mario bros roms.

  • uhh...dude, you cant be serious. ever hear of torrents?

  • they market it as being the size of the ds but its like 2 of them -_- but its still awsomee!

  • No it's actually about the size of the original DS, you can look up the dimensions at their website.

  • quake 1 engine actually, with some fixes and features from quake2.

  • the deciding factor: can I connect a mouse to this device?

  • yes, a usb or bluetooth mouse will work

  • can ut run a gamecube emulator?

  • So far no but (I think) they could possibly run a N64 Emulator!

  • High-end PCs can *barely* run a Gamecube emulator at this point, so no, it's not possible for the Pandora. Native games of Gamecube quality may be possible, though.

  • what was that penguin game?

  • Hi Shadocoon

penguin game is a supertux it start on Linux I think. But now SuperTux is available for Windows, Linux, MacOSX as well as numerous other more exotic systems.

  • so what is the major difference (except the price) between buying this and buying a netbook?

  • For the small screen Touchscreen is ftw also this gets into oyur pocket. Netbook really sucks compared to this.

  • controls and size. Also a dedicated community to it, software is optimised for the pandora (since there is no Windows...)

  • I was thinking the same thing. By the time they release it, there will probably be a netbook that can do the same thing. But I hope this succeeds because I've been watching its progress for a long time. Sounds and looks like a good piece of kit for only cool people to have. I like to be different you know.

  • who is stopping you?

  • I'm sure you would be happy with that choice, sir. They are fine devices.

  • Comment removed

  • Someones... jealous?

  • Minesweeper fail

  • Nice video. But where is the new one you were working on? :S

  • Thinking of getting one.

  • the end was

    D:

  • YAWN.... This is starting to test the patience of even the most optimistic pre-orderer. When will we see final production units and a definite release date? It really is starting to turn sour now. I'm seriously doubting whether I'll see anything for my money despite being a faithful supporter.

  • well these guys aren't exactly Nintendo, but if you check their blog, they actually do have stuff going

  • Can you update your site? I had ordered in october!! I am still waiting :(

  • Calm down a bit.

[ ] You know that you have PREpaid for a device that has not yet been built and nobody could say exactly when it will be ready.

  • No offence but release date should have been December. So Asking for an update is fair. Nothing more , nothing less. And yes I am a I am a faithful supporter.

  • There is no more news on the official website...

I only get one email since may confirming the production of these machine in June.

Please, I want to be officially informed before holidays !

    What's going on ?

  • ordered mine a long time ago!! when will it be shipped?

  • I think soon :)

  • I want one so bad...

Will it be able to emulate Dreamcast? Because that would just be the icing on the cake.

  • I don't think DC would be able to be emulated at a playable speed ever. Just being realistic

  • Apparently there is/was work to port NullDC to Pandora, and it did surpisingly well for such an early version. I don't know where it went, but I expect development will continue when the Pandora is released.

  • Good stuff, keep the vids coming

  • Why does it come out how much will it be? What castlevania was that one and what system? Does it take CD what format to play games can you pust XP or Vista or Leopard. Can you watch Divx movies and download can you view flash media etc?

  • 330$, i dunno maybe super castlevania on the snes, no, depends on the game, probably, probably.

  • No, it's an ARM processor.

You cannot 'pust' any sort of Windows or Mac on it, ever.

  • The game was Castlevania: Bloodlines, it's for Genesis.

Like cyborgtroy said, the processor prevents you from running Windows or OS X on this. Maybe you could with an x86 emulator, but it's not going to be useful for playing Windows games. I'm sure DOSbox will run pretty nicely on it.

As for flash and divx, yes I think so. I don't know the state of Flash for Linux but I do know it's mostly there.

  • flash works well on linux (not perfect btw).

But it's for x86. The pandora is arm.

An arm port is announced but for when

  • but flash still sucks. nothing you can do about that.

  • yep.

  • What about the gnash project? I'm pretty sure it covers more platforms than Adobe's Flash.

  • Yeah, it will work but well, it's not flash.

  • This is pretty impressive stuff, Craig. The more I see, the more desperately I want one.

Does anyone know if ports of Allegro and AllegroGL are being worked on yet?

  • Haha love the "Balls" comment when playing super tux and missing the power up ;D

  • 6:57 LOL

  • BOLLOCKS!

  • humm.... does it not have "shoulder pads"?

  • It has two shoulder buttons just like the PSP or NDS.

  • I thought so... I started Wandering why he used the "ABCD" buttons instead of the shoulder buttons... are those (the shoulder buttons) part of the analogue joystick chip stuff?

  • I wouldn't think so.

I think its just because its a lot easier to use the ABCD buttons over the shoulder's for aiming.

  • ope nvm saw the end

  • We need some touchscreen stuff.

  • agree... those will be the killer apps for this thing, like Visual Novels, brain teaser games, and hit the flying ducks....

  • sarcasm?

    I meant on the demonsration.

  • I could see myself buying 2 of these, if....it could perfectly output ANY/ALL emulators to completely fill any screen TV(standard or wide).

But even still, $330 seems a little too pricey just to play allot of older games. Now if it was $250, then I definately choose this over the future PSP2.

  • it is an open platform, it is meant as a "for gamers by gamers" platform.... and btw, sitting and playing quake on the bus is worth it :P

Hopefuly some one will port some of the relay interesting stuff, like mono/c#, and some free/open games to the platform...

and you must agree that it looks sexy?

  • There is TV-out. It's composite and s-video I think (with a separate breakout cable). I think how it will fill your TV is up to the TV. The signal itself is going to be regular analog TV, which is pillarboxed on a widescreen, but then you can usually hit "wide" on your remote to stretch it.

  • If the developers of the Quake games and other FPSes for the Pandora are reading this: Have you tried mapping the movement to both analog nubs (Back, front, strafe on left and up, down, turn on right) and then shooting with shoulder buttons?

  • this is just the dev version, so when the "final" version is out, and the devs get it in there hands, then we will see some interesting stuff..

  • I notice you're not using the analogue nibs in this video. Are those the final nibs for the product?

I pretty much hope they can still be improved somehow - I'm worried my thumbs won't get along with them in the end. I mean the PSP's little nib was downright unuseable.
