I don't see how you overeacted or made a mistake. I think you did a good thing by responding to GamesGoodMeBad. He has been acting like a pretacious asshole lately, especially with his commentaries to the SaneRevelation and ExandShadow.
I share your beleifs as well. I don't care if people are atheists, just as long as they're not dicks about it like Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens.
Erm, if there is a lack of emperical for god, saying god is a lie is kind of like saying the emporer has not clothes on... eventhough he may really have invisible clothes on.
(cont) I think that's what Jim was trying to put across when he was talking about tollerance. However I do think we should seperate the fundamentalists of a group from the regular people.
And to clarify on one defanition; Atheists don't belive there is no god or no meaning to life. They disblelive in a god due to insaficiant naturlaistic evidence to show there is one. And they belive the meaning of life is whatever you make it out to be for yourself.
OK, I agree with the notion that anti-theists should not be excused for shoving their belifes down others throats and being intollerant of religouse belifes IN GENERAL.
But I do think we should stand up for ourselves and debunk falsehoods and lies presented as truth, as creationists do, when the evidence suggests something compleatly difference. E.G; Creationists say there has never been any transitional forms found, when there have been MANY found!
Science has made tons of errors over the years. Triple the amount that religons suchs as christanity have made. How come we can forgive science so easily, but not religon?
Good point. I think it's all down to the people we can forgive, because they are the ones who shape their actions and causations of their belifes. If a person is willing and activly tries to improve his or herself and correct their mistakes, I say they are worthy of respect.
I'm not going to say whos right and whos wrong. Their are countless mistakes in the bible and science has proven so much. however, if i were to tell you thier is a god, I'd be lying, If You told me thier was no god, you'd be lying. Faith is all you have, and if you dont have it, i really could care less. But I do like the idea of a heaven instead of just roiting in the ground.
@snowman5443 I hate the idea of compulsory love for a deity that will condemn you to eternal hell fire for thought crime. Compulsory love and simultaneous requisite fear...what a horrid notion. I hope there is no heaven because I dont support the notion of torture and killing of an innocent to absolve me for "sins". What an immoral act if there ever was one, but if I dont accept this I burn forever?Absurd. This is in reference of course to the christian monotheism, in which i was raised.
First of all, there's no such thing as knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt.
But, if you THINK someone is wrong, I believe that it is your responsibility to try to correct them. Doing so will either resolve YOUR mistake, or (in the case that you're right) it may prevent them from propagating falsehoods. It's everyone's duty to prevent the propagation of falsehoods.
It's not about bigotry, it's essentially taking the advantages of the scientific method and applying them to everything.
I agree with that, I just feel that people should only be lashing out against the people who take advantage of it, as opposed to everyone in the religon.
There's the issue that moderates are enablers though... if it wasn't for them, we'd be locking up fundies. It would just be clear to everyone that they are in fact lunatics with a dangerously distorted view of reality.
Ultimately, antitheism isn't about people's personal beliefs anyway, it's about theism's effects on society, and most forms of theism have consequences in the here and now. If it didn't, nobody would care.
Antitheism's real value is in creating debate about what's true though.
And it would be a shame to exclude the moderates from that debate. Especially because most of them will realize they're really atheists pretty quickly.

Yeah... I agree with that. I just sort of... took his words a little personally. And that was a mistake on my part.

No worries, it happens. I think both sides have valid points to make and don't need to be at each others throats. Would you agree?

Yeah.

it can be very weak to be tolerant, if the people you're tolerating take advantage of it

that's who we are lashing out against, fools like kirk cameron and ray comfort who think they get to decide what the world should think
