When i clench my upper and lower jaw together,my teeth touch together, bu my front teeth on my lower jaw slide back behind the front teeth, is this normal?
@4evermason hey Taylor my name is yasiris and I'm 12 years old. What happen is that you have a open bite. A open bite is when you have a big gap in the middle of the upper jaw and the lower jaw like you said a big gap in the middle of your mouth. Well I think you need a jaw surgery but don't be scare it's going to be Okay. I wish you good luck
Hi, my names Taylor and I'm 13 years old. I live in the UK and may need surgery on my jaw. The problem is, is that my top and bottom front teeth don't touch but my molars do. When I put my teeth together , there's a big gap in the middle of my mouth where my teeth are. I'm pretty scarf as the is my first operation. Please can someone tell me exactly what happens? Thanks x
no way i would go throw all that pain just to make someone likes me!!! and i have Cleft lip and palate so my doc said i should do this but guess what i wont and yes my nose is half up half down, my lips dosent close and i have a funny talk BUT I DONT CARE!!! I HAVE A NICE JJOB, GREAT FRINDS WHO LOVES ME FOR WHO I AM AND YES A GREAT BOYFRIEND TOO!

I can relate to this video. I had jaw surgery last summer, it was on my upper jaw. My overbite was so bad that I couldn't put my lips together. I was had low self confindence , I limited my friends, I didnt talk to boys, I would cry when someone asked me why is your mouth like that and etc. I had to wait till i was 15 years old to have the surgery. Before my surgery I researched everything on jaw surgery including this video. Anyway i was really scared about the surgery. After the surgery i was
i am just recovering from an over bite operation. I am not going to lie it was very scary as i had my jaw wired and the morphine made me very sick. Once you have week one over with rest is easy i am week 2 now and i have stopped taking my drugs. Just got to take loads of mouth wash and use lip cream..
i had this done back in the summer of 86. it was rough, i'm not sure if they do it the same way now or not, but 6 weeks of having your mouth wired shut got old FAST. they also had 2 tubes in me thru my nose. 1 went to my stomach the other was for breathing. they pulled the breathing one shortly after surgery, and the other tube came out the next morning. that sucked. i also had all my wisdom teeth cut out at the same time so my cheeks were all puffed out due to swelling. no problems since though
i lower jaw and also my chin are pushed back, i began ortho treatment and should be doing surgery in about a year, also my chin is pushed a little to the right but they said theyll fix it all in one surgery. I am not scared of the surgery itself just after effects, does anyone know how you feel after. Is it painful, can u breath properly? replies appreciated! ty
only 3 more weeks with my mouth shut. i have lost 15 pounds and it sucks.. i started at 165 and im at 150. im used to not eating solid foods at this moment now. Ensure and soups are keeping me satisfied as well as protein shakes and ice cream...idk wtf is going on but im gettin alot of acne and never had it before.
wow your turned out great! i just had my lower and upper jaws broken 5 days ago. its been really painful since then but im on the down slope now! waiting for this stupid swelling to go away :/
I think jaw surgery is amazing. But in my case,it came at a big price. I had both my jaws worked on in 1998,when I was 26. It's been almost 14 years and the numb lips and edges of upper and lower jaw feel numb and funny. It is not nearly as bad as it was the first 5-7 years, but it is there. Just know if you are going in for future jaw surgery, this is a possible outcome. I like how I look, but not how parts of my face feel. Happy journeys.
Hi I wrote to you a long time ago... Finally in less than a month if god let it happen I will have my surgery... I'm just afraid to loose weight cause I don't really need to... at least no more than 5 pounds... Your video is one of the most motivating videos for me.. Thanks for that! And hopefully my end results with the surgery are as good as yours :) I will post a video after surgery
I just had surgery on my jaw 2 days ago. I'm pretty much recovering at my house. I got ice, drinking liquids. I can't wait till this heals so I can get back on my feet and do work. I'm hurting a little bit but not that much. Hope everyone is feeling alright and I hope that everyone heals fast. God Bless
@deaztbreazy1111 I had that same thing on the 7th too. how are you? i'm terrible and it keeps feeling like the blood and everything is oozing out of my sinuses but wont move from there so I feel like i'm choking constantly. they never tell you about this stuff. but its worth it
my surgery was perfect. only took my doc 2 1/2 hrs. he told me it was a 4 to 5 hr surgery but w/e. recovering was good. no pain and i only got a bloody mouth if i looked up other then that no blood. i was freaking out cuz i couldnt breathe as soon as i got home from hospital but if you guys cant breathe after the surgery just take some Q tips and slowly clean ur nose and drag all the blood clots and mucus down. I did and instantly i could breathe sooooo much better!!!!
First of all: CONGRATULATIONS! I can only imagine the pain!
I don't know if you will answer my questions, I pray to GOD that you will!
how was the pain managed? i imagine in the hospital, you were probably on a morphine drip. but, at home? what did your mom do? mash the pill with mortar in pistle and put them in your food?
how soon , were you able to move around the house, considering your pain was managed by medication?
what kind of surgeon performed the surgery? thanks

I had a two jaw surgery (top and bottom). I did not feel pain when I woke up. I was very tired and was just happy it was over. My biggest complaint was a THROAT ACHE, which lasted about a week, that's it. It's more of an uncomfortable process than painful.
few questions for you. what liquids did you have when you were on the liquids only portion post op? and how did you keep your mouth clean after teh surgery? lots of rinsing?
I'm getting it this year, I'm 16. I'm worried I might lose too much weight because I am very tall and slim (5'10" tall and only about 117lbs) Also, I am getting all four wisdom teeth removed as well during my surgery. This is for a
Guys n girls,I had it done and the pain..there are no words for!!I lost about 3 stone BUT!! The end result is so worth it!everyday for the rest of your life youll be a different person!DO IT!
hi! in two weeks im getting this sugery done and i really would like to know how much weight you lost... im kind of afraid because im already skinny :S
@lovehindimovie Sorry if you already made your desicion, but I think you should have the operation. Through all of the amazing recoveries I've seen, none of them have failed.
Hey man whats up. I got mine done just last month December 13. It was about 3 weeks before i could do anything, however at this point im so hungry i had to eat lol. So i grinded up pasta and even a burger with some luqid and it works haha but other than that pure liquid diet i lost 25 lb so crazy. But glad it went good my underbite was about 8mm
@raidedmepony Thank you soo much!<3 The surgery went great! I got out of the hospital then next afternoon. And Ive been feeling great ever since. The liquid diet isnt bad whatsoever, and Im already very satisfied with how I look. Thanks again (:
Omg your face didn't swell half as much as mine did! Had it done in December 2008 when I was 18, was probably the best thing I ever did in my life (as a decision). My underbite wasn't huge but for a really out going person it had started to effect me.
Now people really comment on how good my teeth and smile are and is the best part about me lolol! Anyway how have you found it since? I still get some weird feelings on my top jaw even 2 years and my bottom jaw is still numb sometimes to touch...
@afb3199 Oh, that is a fantastic number! Maybe I will stay alive with my under bite right now. Although it's pain sometime, but it's fine for me. But jaw surgery is become my obsession. I hope someday it will happen to me.
wow bro! I have a cross-bite / overbite that surgery will fix. the end result looks great. hope everything healed well. do you have any residual nerve damage almost 4 yrs later?
Wow! It's 3:35am in Toronto, Canada where I am right and I have to be at the hospital for 5:45am, my surgery is at 8am! My bottom jaw needs to be moved into place, (it's off to the left) and they need to bring my top jaw forward! This video REALLY calmed my nerves, thank you so much for posting it! You're lucky you had help from your Mom, mine has lung cancer and can't be there with me :( thanks again for posting the video and just had to let you know, your results are amazing!
I had this surgery done last week to correct my overbite, except it involves both jaws and they removed a part of my lower jaw and had to remove a number of teeth while they were at it! I'm feeling pretty much like myself now apart from a dull ache and a lot of swelling! The worst part is not being able to eat proper food, it's driving me mad!
To those getting it done, don't worry about it, you hit a pretty bad bit on the day after the surgery, but just try to sleep through it :)
I'm supposed to have this done. Actually I was ready to get it done at 16, but some kid died from it, in the same hospital that I was going to get it done at. I'm scared, but I'm tired of having a bad looking smile.I got bullied for it all throughout school and I'm ready to fix this.
I'm so glad you made this video, because I'm having the same operation as you, I'm 13 so I don't have to have it till I've stopped growing. I've been really nervous about it, but this video made me feel less nervous, because the before and after results look really good, & so thanks for making this video! :)
Does a person going through this surgery have to wear the rubber bands? I know they are used to correct a minor bite but if you have a huge underbite, I would find it kinda pointless unless they are used to help align the teeth and put them in the correct angle. I'm just curious about the whole year of preparation. I got my braces 2 weeks ago. So I have a while until this. I'm just learning as much as i can beforehand
Yes.. well for my case anyways. I have an underbite and need surgery.. it's not that severe or anything, but I do need surgery to correct it. If you live your whole life not having a properly aligned jaw, there could be risks. My ortho said her brother went without the surgery, and when he got old his mouth was a mess and he had some teeth missing.
Oh boy, can't wait to get this done kinda. Being forced to do it by the parents. 7mm underbite plus a lot of other shenanigans going on. Process starts in 4 days. I might do this for memory's sake. lol. One question, after the surgery, if you are to have your mouth wired shut, do you have to keep clean using listerine or is there some method of keeping your teeth clean? lol.
@greggrapefruit Hey I got this surgery about 7 weeks ago, and the first week that I was wired shut they gave me a special type of mouth wash that i had it insert in my mouth with a syringe, and I was still able to brush my teeth but only the outside part with a REALLY soft tooth brush. But its not very fun lol. hope this helped!
Hey first of all really helpful video. I had this same surgery done roughly 5 weeks ago and Im still a little fat faced, would you say by week 8 all your swelling was gone?
Hey first of all really helpful video. I had this same surgery done roughly 5 weeks ago and Im still a little fat faced, would you say by week 8 all your swelling was gone?
Did you regret doing the surgery while your pain was going through? Like a day after surgery? How bad did it hurt? I have an embarrassing underbite too. But my mom read an article about what can happen if plastic surgery goes wrong....
on day 8 of my surgery. its not to bad despite the craving for food. there is very little pain from this surgery. the hardest thing was trying to breathe the first 4 days, it kept me up but you just have to stay calm.
well done job.. thanks for sharing.. i watched your video many times prior to having my surgery.. and now mine all all done.. had it 9 days ago.. cant wait to see the final resaults of my apperiance!!
I may have to have a similar surgey done, and I was just wondering....How much pain...from 1 -10 is there? And also, from when you wake up, does the pain get worse, or better, or can it be worse some days than others?
I know the 'Does the pain get worse or better?' is a silly question...but I am kind of scared. Also, Were you scared before your surgery?
@CompletelyWierd heya, i had a surgery like this, but a little bit more intense, i had upper and lower jaw surgery..and they also had to reset my nose a little bit to the left.
in my experience, there was very little pain..because i couldn't feel my lower face for about 2 months, but all the feeling has come back now.. i can tell you more if you private message me if you want to know
did you lose any weight in the 6 weeks on diet?? im asking because i worked my ass of for my body,,and muscles.i still am, so i really want to know. thx upfront and ,,nice job on your operation.
I have this surgery in 12 days.. pretty nervous about the pain... I can't take a lot of pain... ;( PS you look great... I shared your video with family and friends!!
You look amazing! I just had my done 4 weeks ago today, and I'm 45 years old!!!. It is hard the first week, but it does get better. I can't wait to see the "final " result. I can't believe how many people have had this procedure done.
I will be getting mine soon and I am sooo exited!! I think it'll be a good experience. I have never stayed at a hospital before, neither have I ever been severely sick. So it'd be interesting to see if mum feeds me and takes care of me.
the only thing I worry alot about is my studies. I will be in university first year this year. So I am dead worried about that. I know uni first year is dengerous. so my question is do you know how much or how badly if affects your education?
i had this surgery too i can totally relate to how you felt after... when i woke up in the hospital bed i felt terrible. i also made the mistake of getting my surgery a week before christmas...terrible terrible idea
im 11 and my jaw is tottaly out of place as a underbite and i recently went to the dentist i also have 2 teeth that r above normal i am so scared because i do wanna get more pretty but i just dont wanna go through anything painfull of like that
thats amazing man! this video made me feel better. im on week one after surgery. got it done at Long Beach Memorial. and man, all this having your jaw wired together thing blows! im craving pizza and a cheeseburger
I had a jaw surgery more than a year ago too. The first 3-4 days were pretty painful and annoying. But after that was over, I only had to worry about the swelling and not doing any demanding physical activity. In the end, when I saw the pictures of myself today and how I looked like before the surgery, I can easily say, it was worth it :)
i have a too short bone between nose and and teeth, so thats why my upper teeth is shorter. some people think i don't have upper teeth. and my lower jaw is quite big. none of my teeth touched except 1 back tooth at each side. my family felt really sorry for me and now they're supporting me for the surgery. i hope...everything will go well
I can't eat properly. most of my food... i just swallowed it without chew it properly. when i got job and live in town. i have problems with digestion. my family never think it was serious until my health is getting worst. the doctor noticed my jaw condition and he ask me to see a dentist. then my dentist ask me to see an orthodontist. thats how i know how bad is the shape of my jaw.
hi! I will have the surgery at the end of this year. to be honest...I'm scared to death. coz i'm 28 years old. well... i'm from Malaysia... most of my people from rural side not really alert with this kind of knowledge. we never realize how impotant is the surgery.
It kind of seemed like you liked like a little kid at first from the swelling, how long till all of it went away?,im 5 weeks post-op and i think i still look a little swollen and childish and people have told me that i kind of look like a little kid now
I am on day 5 after surgery. the first 2 days are the worst. i had upper jaw and it bled a lot the first two days. not much pain because lots of pain medication. im still sooo swollen tho
I'm having the same surgery TODAY. In a matter of hours and I'm having one SERIOUS panic attack, despite having surgeries numerous times before. But I wanna thank you for posting this. It helped ease the nerves. One of those, "They survived I'll survive!" moments. But the eating part? Yea that sucks.
And for those who wanted to know, apparently your nose will only bleed if they've moved the top jaw. Or so I was told.
hi..i m going for this in coming 15days more...so exciting n nervous about it...i m waiting it for so long time...any tips for d preparations b4 the surgery?
Also you probably wont sleep the first couple of days because you are basically fighting to breathe, they were constantly checking my oxygen level, best advice is to EXPECT not to sleep, dont panic focus on relaxing while you breathe, after the 4th day, it gets better literaly every day...good luck to all
I had this surgery 7 weeks ago, still wired shut for 2 more weeks. There is no actual pain afterwards, just discomfort, the BIGGEST problem is the breathing while wired shut, This was a HUGE problem that peaks at about day 3-4. here is info
Dried blood in the nasal passages is best cleaned by spraying of saline spray and gentle suction with the bulb. Repeat this process as needed until nasal passages are free of dried blood.
Best advuce is to remain calm, any questions message me.
I am having mine done in a week and one day, I will have a 3 week break then i am write back into the spring semester of college. I am nervous. Any reconmendations besides not panicing?
Be prepared for absolute misery for the first couple days. I just had mine done wednesday (both lower and upper jaw) and the first day was definitely the worst, I was puking up tons of blood, felt like I couldn't breathe and ended up panicking more than once even though I knew what to expect. All I can really say is to just prepare yourself for the worst for the first few days and look forward to the outcome.
Yeah I've been really tired yet it's hard to sleep because of all the congestion breathing has been the hardest thing for me lately. I did all my puking the first 2 days and haven't had a problem with that since then, just try not to swallow your phlegm because a lot of it is blood and that will upset your stomach, I know it's hard but try to spit up all the crap you feel in your throat.

Hello. Glad your surgery turned out great.
I just had my surgery 5 days ago. I'm currently still in hospital and will be discharged tomorrow.
One question I would like to know is , do you have to take out all the metal plates and screws after 1 year of surgery?
My surgeon told me that after 1 year from now I will need to come back for another operation just to remove the metal plates and screws.

HelenTheIdiot 1 year ago
I'm supposed to have this done. Actually I was ready to get it done at 16, but some kid died from it, in the same hospital that I was going to get it done at. I'm scared, but I'm tired of having a bad looking smile.I got bullied for it all throughout school and I'm ready to fix this.

I'm just learning as much as i can beforehand
greggrapefruit 1 year ago
hey, how long did it take you to get back onto solids, im day 11 and eating noodles, fried rice and etc.
liam232232 1 year ago
hi. are there some other advantages after the surgery aside from uhm...boosted self esteem?
chrisgelb 1 year ago
@chrisgelb
Yes.. well for my case anyways. I have an underbite and need surgery.. it's not that severe or anything, but I do need surgery to correct it. If you live your whole life not having a properly aligned jaw, there could be risks. My ortho said her brother went without the surgery, and when he got old his mouth was a mess and he had some teeth missing.
adiavoy 1 year ago
@adiavoy thanks very much.

Oh boy, can't wait to get this done kinda. Being forced to do it by the parents. 7mm underbite plus a lot of other shenanigans going on. Process starts in 4 days. I might do this for memory's sake. lol. One question, after the surgery, if you are to have your mouth wired shut, do you have to keep clean using listerine or is there some method of keeping your teeth clean? lol.
greggrapefruit 1 year ago
@greggrapefruit Hey I got this surgery about 7 weeks ago, and the first week that I was wired shut they gave me a special type of mouth wash that i had it insert in my mouth with a syringe, and I was still able to brush my teeth but only the outside part with a REALLY soft tooth brush. But its not very fun lol. hope this helped!

Also you probably wont sleep the first couple of days because you are basically fighting to breathe, they were constantly checking my oxygen level, best advice is to EXPECT not to sleep, dont panic focus on relaxing while you breathe, after the 4th day, it gets better literaly every day...good luck to all
tonymontana0120 2 years ago
I had this surgery 7 weeks ago, still wired shut for 2 more weeks. There is no actual pain afterwards, just discomfort, the BIGGEST problem is the breathing while wired shut, This was a HUGE problem that peaks at about day 3-4. here is info
Dried blood in the nasal passages is best cleaned by spraying of saline spray and gentle suction with the bulb. Repeat this process as needed until nasal passages are free of dried blood.
Best advuce is to remain calm, any questions message me.
tonymontana0120 2 years ago
I am having mine done in a week and one day, I will have a 3 week break then i am write back into the spring semester of college. I am nervous. Any reconmendations besides not panicing?
peronaflower13 2 years ago
Be prepared for absolute misery for the first couple days. I just had mine done wednesday (both lower and upper jaw) and the first day was definitely the worst, I was puking up tons of blood, felt like I couldn't breathe and ended up panicking more than once even though I knew what to expect. All I can really say is to just prepare yourself for the worst for the first few days and look forward to the outcome.
FatBox 2 years ago
i has mine done wed as well. yesterday was my worst day. thats when i did my puking. are you really tired? i am soo tired.
peronaflower13 2 years ago
Yeah I've been really tired yet it's hard to sleep because of all the congestion breathing has been the hardest thing for me lately. I did all my puking the first 2 days and haven't had a problem with that since then, just try not to swallow your phlegm because a lot of it is blood and that will upset your stomach, I know it's hard but try to spit up all the crap you feel in your throat.
