I would be bothered to if I was akira. Akira is the highest rank you can achieve before going pro he is stronger than most professionals, and he is young. How can a 11 year old boy play as well as his dad does and play a teaching game with him? That is unheard of and if I was akira, and got beat and tested by a kid my age if I was him I would be shocked and amazed because that would be the first child in history who plays with at least 30 years under his belt of playing experince.
@clossius i dont think that a pro would play an invasion turn at the 6th line im just 2kyu but this doesnt seem to be normal for me and maybe he just changed this move in the kifu :D
@iryumika maybe the game in real life was an actual teaching game between a pro and amatuer, but hikaru no go has changed moves in games to suite the story line.
@kooler2004 yes that seems like it could be right ,.. maybe it was even a teaching game by a pro to a pro there are if i heard it right even 7dan pros whos senseis are 9dan pros so it could be lso that :D
wow, from reading the comments i can see a lot of the strategy of go goes over my head... I would have just ignored the one black in the open and played to secure the bottom left corner... no biggie.... what would be wrong with that?
Maybe it should be viewed as a light invasion combined with a loose extension from the center ponnuki. That single stone is tough to attack in an efficient and sensible way, and going under it is exactly what black wants. Best I could imagine is to herd black single stone upwards and then split it with the ponnuki, but then attachment aji in the shimari and ponnuki facing open space could lead into an embarrassing situation where black lives everywhere and white gets nothing for his troubles.
You can see from the game that black is not weak. Of course Akira's reaction is a bit extreme - it's not good drama otherwise - but you have to admit that this one move is either a very strong or a very unconventional way to handle the white moyo. You could say it's a teaching game type move, where white calculates from a distance how to pull the game close and still keep it exciting after white died.
The dead group is huge, but that centre isn't exactly nothing. If white gets all that he will probably win. Not that even after blacks invasion the game was within 2 points.
I can get the territory necessary to neutralise it. Plus, the white group at the top looks rather thin. I think something can be done about that in the process.
By the way, I'm looking at the invasion move on the star point on the right side.
As a note. the game developers in Hikaru no Go are Mostly pros with Yukari san being the lead. So to question what they are saying is like telling Chuck Norris how to kick ass.
in addition it is a test. Sai has an idea of how Strong Akira is and wants to know how he will react to this situation. will he attack, or defend, where will said moves be. Sai is much stronger than Akira so he needs to know how strong Akira is to get a good judge of how hard he can play without utterly destorying him
This game is actually between honinbo shusaku and honinbo shuwa.

It's actually just a reduction. XD Black is just reducing the white moyo in the center.

Of course I meant a "teaching game type move, where BLACK calculates from a distance..."
Sorry about that.
mkiozipangbuu 4 years ago
Not really a teaching type move, the creater takes kifu from games played and then makes up comments.
This move was probably a reduction move black (in real life) came up with. The writer just gave akira that reaction. ^^

I would disagree; it is extremely dangerous to play like that. A better way in my opinion is to take the side territory, as the dead group is huge.

The side is very weak; I would play a high invasion move (4th line from the right). Then I can influence the centre
Freshmanwave 2 years ago
Couldn't white just attack that stone to develop the centre? like with a kiema or something?

well if your good enough to notice when someone plays a very strong move and your into go like they are youd prolly get suprised about it to ^^

Ahh... a brief glimpse of the inner workings of Go. Captured wonderfully starting with one single offensive move.
