  • HOTEL CALIFORNIA :D Anyways Like The Other People Said Put It In A Box, It Might Give You A 5-10% Increase On Bass

  • if you uused a different kind of music, that would be really fun.

you could play levan polkka, for example :)

And, how about making the disc as subwoofer ? (conecting motor windings parraler with arm), will it work ?

  • This project is extremely cool and I bet you've learned a lot from it while figuring out how to do that.

  • wow cool

  • That huge HD is probably an "Bigfoot" HD

  • Don't listen to trolls, this is amazing!

There are things that only nerds can make...

  • Bob I'm so jealous your hard drive speakers sound so much better than me floppydrive speakers LOL just kiddin. Cool stuff, cheers

  • put them in a speaker box. it should make a better sound

  • i dont understand the point i mean its cool but pointless messy and sounds like crap

  • @weirdstuffanimation7

I never said that they would sound the best but think about it, you can make speakers out of old hard drives. For me, stuff like this is a hobby

  • @Bobensen yea i see what you mean good point

  • @Bobensen It's amazing. Dont care that people call us geeks. It's our hobby. We like it :D

  • song? send me pm

  • @Setaneiro wow... really?

  • @Setaneiro send me the name of the song

  • @Setaneiro wow... i hope your not asking for the name of hotel california...

  • why bother?

  • why not?

  • I was just wondering how big the large hard drive is and where you got it.

  • how big of an amplifier did you have to hook up to make it produce sound? or does it not have to have alot of power to work? Did you just wire it to the coil on the arm?

    Great Vid, thx.

  • Well you do need a good ammount of power to power it but nothing ridiculous. I just used a typical home stereo unit ( i used a SONY CMT-CP11 to be exact, yes its old but good) I just directly wired the speaker terminals to the coil on the read/write arm. Thanks for the comment!

  • well done

  • I'm assuming that doing this ruins the hard drives right?

  • Yup! This is probably one of the worst things you can do to a hard drive. So if you want t make one make sure its either cheap or broken.

  • I dont... Believe it or not... Try Googling hard drive speakers pal before you go around calling my stuff BS. Think about it.... Electric Coil+Magnet+Alternating sound current=Hard drive speakers. If you dont believe it try it your self.

  • Cool! 5*

  • To quote the Dude: I freaking hate the Eagles, man.

  • why do you have so many hard drives?

  • I fix computers And end up getting many hard drives. I kinda collect and store many different computer parts and components until needed but these hard drives were all broken so I decided to do something with them

  • i'm not a repairer, but i have +/- 4 old hard drives (1GB each) i can't use it anymore, but it's fun to do.

  • where do you get thoes huge ones?

  • The big on is a quantum bigfoot (20 Gig) hard drive. Its old, really old. I got it from my english teacher because I was doing computer service for her and it died...

  • Dude thats cool it took me a long ass time to find just one HOW DID YOU DO IT...well looks freaking tight sounds cool...Well i took mine apart already kinda burned it first didn't sound so good....

  • What is the principal behind why they hard drives produce sound? i know in normal speakers its the air movment produces by the speaker moving through electromagnets-how dose the hard drive produce sound?

  • It's just about the same theory as speakers... Instead of the speaker Cone the thing that creates sound is the actual read arm on the hard drive. It has almost the same parts as a speaker except the speaker cone. It too uses elecrtomagnets at the lower end of the arm. The electromagnets are hidden behind the magnets. The electromagnet is connected to the read/write arm and thus moving it back and fourth creating sound...

  • i laughed when you said ouch!

  • Why would tape help? Are you trying to restrict the movement of the 'tweeters'?

  • I did that because of 2 things:

To restrect the tweeters and to restrict the other ones from making bad noises. The tape really doesn't do anything to the sound though, It just keeps them from rattling.

  • I just filled the hard drive with vegetable oil and replaced the cover. It sounds much better without taping the arm. The only problem is you can't see the arms at work.

  • Cool Idea... Post a vid on youtube plaese

  • I also made an updated version of my hard drive speakers

  • sweet!!!!
