If you're careful and you know what you're doing, there shouldn't be a problem opening up some simple piece of consumer electronics. I inherited one that had a broken screen replaced 'professionally' and they left fingerprints and dirt under the glass, so now I have to crack it open myself to clean it out. Grr.
