  • This game was so ahead of it's time!! Loved it when I was a kid.

  • This is the best game made for the nes. Anyone who says other wise either never played it or quit.

  • this game is easy. what you talking about?

  • @luizterra23 Level 1 isn't the whole game......Also you may be thinking of the arcade game, the NES one has some painful levels

  • This game is so frickn hard...I'm only able to make it 2 the pipe level and that's using the warps

  • Battletoads for the arcade is a much better game!

  • Very hard game......so i went to last level

  • This game was so hard. I never saw most of those levels. It was great. But I'd hate to start playing it now, because I can't see me doing much else until I managed to beat it.

  • This had to be one of the most difficult games to beat...I had to use Game Genie to help me.

  • The thing that really sucked at the time was, you couldn't save your progress in the game.

  • Dumbass

  • F U

  • r u srs!

  • Yes I'm serious. You ether beat the 9 hour game or you don't. And if your power in your house ever went out then came back on, all your progress meant nothing. You gotta remember, there were no memory cards, or zip drives of any kind. Nothing like that existed at the time. The only thing we had was "Game Genie." where you die as much as you want.

  • true, very true, but it is a game that requires practice to make it through levels quickly and skillfully but i defiantly see your point and agree it is ridiculous, and the fact that so many people are being assholes to you is also ridiculous I truly pity

  • I hated how the Rubber Ducks would be a 1 hit kill if you didn't turn them around with a well timed punch and THEY CAN'T FUCKING DIE!!!!

I made a video about it but its too large a file so I will try to make a more compacted version. I also couldn't get past the 3rd part in the Rat Race level so I quit from there.

  • you can ride the flying pigs? how?!

  • Don't go for the kill, just punch then and knock them down and then walk on them when they are down. Just like in the vid.

  • cool

  • MBXfilms, isn't it amazing the way Battletoads has always been ahead of its time.

  • oh man I loved this game...

  • Hey the music playing 0:23 is tanaka's theme track from F-ZeroGX, but this sounds like a NES version of the track. was it used in the original F-Zero game?

  • This game is only beaten WITH Game Genie or save states never at a real console amazing! O.O

  • this game can only be beaten with someone who has no life...and i thank them for giving up their life for the sake of beating this game! I think it would be worth it. Same thing for all battletoads games! Which of course, are all awesome!

  • Fantastic music through and through! Who woulda thought that the coolest tunes of the game would be the the pause menu?!?! Amazing!!

  • Yeah, pause and the opening are awesome. Know any sweet remixes?

  • this game was hard as hell.. and me and my cousin always lost one way or another.

  • battletoads is not a videogame. it is a reflex response simulator.

  • i cant wait battletoads is comming for WII!!!!!!!

  • umm... that was fake ya know....

  • Oh man, what a game BT was! Damn hard though.

  • Imagine how awesome Battletoads would be in this generation. I bet the combat would somewhat resemble God of War. You can find many fun and creative ways to destroy your enemies. This could be a very fun beat em up.

  • oo lololol i remember playing that even the levels

  • AMAZING!

  • que saudade desse jogo e que jogo dias e noites para salva nes 8 bits que saudade um classico para quem conheçe

  • Forgot about this game, havent played it in 14 years and still remember most of it.

  • Hmmm, time to call Gamestop!

  • BLAARRRGGHH BATTLE TOADS!!! >=O

  • The jets damn those jets.

  • this game was my favorite but it was so damn hard.

  • what's the name of the last song?

  • It's Billy's Theme from F-Zero GX.

  • Battletoads 2 is much better: less puzzles and more fighting.

  • I was playing this an hour ago. im stuck on the elevator level

  • cool

  • This is seriously the hardest non-puzzle game out there for NES.....

  • That looks like the best NES game ever made

  • This game is one I have never played before. I hate it, when all this came out, I was racing for the embreo.

  • Yeah man, you missed out on some games of perfection. Without these games, there would be no Assassain's Creed, Bioshock, God of War, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Halo, Call of Duty, anything. '90s games were very inspirational in terms of uniqueness.

  • Indeed. All I'll have is Brawl :(

    ;)

  • Without beat em up games, Brawl would be nothing. I miss those good ol' days with the Sega Genesis, NES and all the other good consoles. I suggest you get one (if a store still has them...) and get some of these games. I remember this Tom and Jerry game; Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics I believe, and it was amazing. 2 player game and was challenging to the best extent. That was when television games didn't suck. :)

  • Holy shit. They didn't always suck?

  • Nope, they were awesome. I call it the Golden Age in terms on video games. A lot of television shows are from these Golden Age games. Look at Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon, even Battletoads here was once a T.V. show. Good times back then.

  • you have a point, but this has nothing to do with Bioshock. Bioshock is more of a product of current hardware design. And that(directx) was influenced by John Carmack in the 90's. Creative people have always existed, today's market is just overwhelmed with 3D games, "eye-candy". This will continue as long as we are Still moving toward photorealism. There is no relationship between old NES games and Bioshock, and all other games you had mentioned.

  • No, but the timeline of games is both a discovery and a little something for the commercial market. Like take this for example (one thing leads to another):

Shoot 'em up/TDS's -> basic FPS game -> today's games.

They merely took the basis of the earlier games and re-invented it. You can even see some of the old shooting systems worked through. You know what I mean? It's kind of tough to explain...

  • Yeah but that's only your personal interpretation. "They"? who they? Each game development company is different, different people, different passions, different intentions. It's not that easy to pinpoint what came out of what without heavy research, which frankly, neither you nor I have done. had it been as linear as you believe it is, I would have agreed with you. But none of development - any kind - be it computer game design, or anything else, is ever linear.

  • True. Is IS my opinion. That is my opinion meaning I, an ameteur game programmer, what I believe. I agree with you on that. For the most part, you are right. If you take in opinions, it may be in favor of mine. But you are completely right.

  • Hey no problem, I'm not trying to fight with you, just browsing around. battle toads is a great game. Although I do like the second one more. Tough game to beat.

  • Nor am I. If you want to see some of my work, you can check out my video. I'm currently trying to work on a "Guitar Hero: NES" and I think it's coming out pretty good. Not many bugs to deal with in the actual game.

  • What do you mean by your work?

  • My games.

  • Hopefully this game will come to virtual console. It's the only Nintendo game that i rented like 5 times in a row.

  • The sad thing is it may not, It's a game by RARE and I think Microsoft kinda owns them now or something.

  • Man thats a bummer. What about Donkey kong 64? That had RARE's name on it and so did Jet Force Jemini. 2 great games from RARE. Sigh.

  • Two more bummers there then too. I never got to play Jet Force so I'd get that. They could alwasy back a deal anyway though, they'd make money so why not do it?

  • Well DKC1-3 are made by rare and they're on VC...

  • Yeah, that's a decent sign, but Nintendo kinda owns Donkey Kong the character so...that helped.

  • Lol F-Zero music.

  • Yeah lame, I couldn't find any Battletoad remixes to use.

  • excelente, que recuerdo de las battletoads, ahora las tengo en el pgen-emulador de genesis para playstation 2. Trendria que salir uno para playstation 2 o nueva generacion

  • this is absolutly great the best game ever. Comments from argentina

  • I think this was the best game for NES. Excellent!! Regards from Chile

  • I found this really easy when I was 6.

    Looking at it now?

All I can say is I must've been buzzing on sugar to have reaction speeds like that.

  • lol

  • me too dude. i remember how me and my friend must of tried 100000 times before finally loosing it.

  • This is my favorite game of all time!

  • Years later I can't beat this game,I get pwnd at Level 3 every time.

  • i feel your pain brother. level 3 was always the one i'd get stuck on without Game Genie.

  • i just beated the game yesterday. seriusly. this is the hardest game i have EVER tried. i had to play some part of the game in super slow motion. who ever beats this game without cheating is the ultimate gamemaster

  • Battletoads was an awesome game. I'm still waiting for a new one.

  • the best level was the one when you were on thiose hover crafts and had to dodge all those walls and hit jumps, it was great

  • it was almost impossible too! haha!

  • I play that on the Genesis

  • Yep, it's for both. There's an Arcade one too, but it's different, as well as the Double Dragon crossover.

  • I loved that game. The one where they team with double dragon was even better.
